aggieamy
My niece will stay with us for three or four nights in a row a few times a month and I'd like some suggestions on read alouds that I could get done while she is over. If the books are too long and we have to wait a week in between reading them it loses it's fun. Some of the books we've read so far this year and enjoyed are: Sarah Plain and Tall The Boxcar Children The Door in the Wall Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle Henry Huggins James' Herriots Treasury for Children Gooney Bird Green Any other books suggestions? Other pertinent information: I will read for 30 minutes a night and sometimes in the morning so I can usually get through a book that's a 120 pages of less in three or four days. My audience is two 7 yo little girls.
LibraryLover
The Cobble Street Cousins books are lovely & sweet. Cynthia Rylant is a gem. There are several books in the series, each one wonderful. http://www.amazon.com/Lucys-Kitchen-Cobble-Street-Cousins/dp/0689817118

Natalieclare
My 7yo was just nuts about Baby Island, by Carol Ryrie Brink. It went pretty quick, too.

myfunnybunch
You might want to try a short story or fairy tale collection, too. That way if you finish a short read-aloud and have only a day/night or two left, you can read a few stories from the collection and your niece doesn't miss the end of a story. happypamama
My kids have really been liking Beverly Cleary's series about Henry Huggins lately. They also think Louis Sachar's Wayside School series is hilarious. (So of course I am totally warping their ideas about public school, LOL.) Chris in VA
Can you stand Roald Dahl? We love English humor, so they don't bother us, but people think he's mean. We loved Fantastic Mr. Fox The Twits Dd liked The BFG Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (this may be too long for you) We also liked Mary on Horseback (about a traveling nurse) Wayside School (these are hilarious, and you can do chapters that don't really relate to each other, esp in the first book) Cat Wings
