Need short read aloud suggestions

Recommended Posts

My niece will stay with us for three or four nights in a row a few times a month and I'd like some suggestions on read alouds that I could get done while she is over. If the books are too long and we have to wait a week in between reading them it loses it's fun.

Some of the books we've read so far this year and enjoyed are:

Sarah Plain and Tall

The Boxcar Children

The Door in the Wall

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle

Henry Huggins

James' Herriots Treasury for Children

Gooney Bird Green

Any other books suggestions?

Other pertinent information: I will read for 30 minutes a night and sometimes in the morning so I can usually get through a book that's a 120 pages of less in three or four days. My audience is two 7 yo little girls.

Can you stand Roald Dahl? We love English humor, so they don't bother us, but people think he's mean.

We loved

Fantastic Mr. Fox

The Twits

Dd liked

The BFG

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (this may be too long for you)

We also liked

Mary on Horseback (about a traveling nurse)

Wayside School (these are hilarious, and you can do chapters that don't really relate to each other, esp in the first book)

Cat Wings
