My bloodsugar is 359

Recommended Posts

On the advice of my doctor I started a gallbladder flush that required drinking 1 quart of apple juice throughout the day. I am not diabetic but I know that juices are a problem for me. I could feel myself going into a sort of bloodsugar "high". I just checked my bloodsugar. It is 359. I'm pulling the plug on the doctor's orders. (I was supposed to do this for 3 days in a row - I'm afraid that while I'm not diabetic now, I would be by the end of the 3 days.)

Thats scary, Jean. I am aware of the gallbladder flush- there are gentler ways of doing that sort of thing- I would ask your doctor to take you a different route.

Literally this morning my yoga teacher said to me "you should do the gallbladder flush, you are looking yellow" and we had a discussion about it. I said..I do not like it- it is too intense for my body. I am doing a liver cleanse instead, starting gently. I am sitting here eating salad and drinking carrot and celery juice (this, I can do, and even enjoy).

That's a very high number just for drinking one quart of apple juice over the course of an entire day. Are you certain you aren't diabetic?

I'm probably pre-diabetic and I'm very sensitive to sugar esp. in juice. So I don't drink juice and I try to watch my carbs. I do have a glucometer because my dh is diabetic but with my normal diet my fasting bloodsugar is in the 70's and my 2 hour after dinner numbers are under 120.

Have you considered Atkins or South Beach? Just add tons of veggies to the protein, and leave out the corn, potatoes etc. If I am talking about something we've already discussed, let me know. I can't even remember my own cell phone number much of the time. ;)

I did well on a South Beach style diet (the Dr. Phil one).

I can't remember your cell phone number either. Oh wait, I never knew it!:D (Sorry, I did tell you that I was high with this bloodsugar thing, right?)

I think South Beach was made for my body. I also do well with it and find it very easy to manage.

Here's a question: Do you know your dh's cell number? Here's my answer: :auto: Never did, never will.

Jean, that's a scary number; I'm glad you're discontinuing this cleanse. I don't know the reasons your doctor suggested it, but I hope you're able to find something else that works for you.

Yeah. I'm calling him in the morning. My dh, who is diabetic, said that even his bloodsugar has never gone that high. (Since his was caught early.) It is 3:12 and I'm awake - again. My bloodsugar has actually come down but my body is still buzzing.

I would be a mess on any kind of fruit juice. Sorry you are dealing with this....359 is really high. Drink lots of water and eat some good protien....

Oy...Jean....how did your doctor appointments go? I missed your update, but have had you in my heart and prayers.

May I ask what kind of doctor asked you to do this? I would have serious misgivings about an MD who gave you this advice. Are you trying to flush stones out? Is your doc *trying* to induce pancreatitis??

The doctor is an MD/ND who is a specialist in those with chronic illnesses. He has helped me go from being close to an invalid (and functionally disabled) to being almost "normal". The goal of the flush was to flush stones and sludge out. Obviously he was not trying to induce pancreatitis. I often have reactions to things (from all sorts of doctors) that don't go according to how it goes for other people. I will call him in a few minutes and we'll have to look for a plan B.

I haven't heard the results of the dental CT scan. I need to call about that today too.

BTW - my fasting blood glucose was 94 this morning. It's still higher than I like it but is not technically considered high. I'm going low carb today.

The doctor's nurse called me back immediately today after I left a message with the receptionist about what happened last night. They want me to continue the flush but with water only. She said that the stuff you add to the water (ortho phosphoric acid and malic acid) is very bitter. I can add a splash of apple juice to the water if I can handle it to try and mask a bit of the bitterness. One day down, 2 more to go. Sigh.

That is a really scary number. I'm glad that you fasting numbers are still in the normal range; that is excellent. However, according to this NIH website, the test for diabetes that has you drink a glucose drink would diagnose diabetes if on two different days, drinking the glucose sent your bloodsugar over 200. I highly recommended getting tested for diabetes and, if you aren't already, you should probably be on diabetic medication to treat pre-diabetes, even if this 359 is a fluke and you aren't diagnosed with full diabetes.

Call the dentist's office now before you forget! :D

I'll keep after your dental infection like the devil after the poor soul. Somehow, I am thinking it's the root of all your misery!

Glad you got a hold of the ND's office and there is a plan B!!!

I've been tested for diabetes - both with a glucose challenge test (which came out normal) and my Dr. periodically monitors my glucose levels with a Hemoglobin A1c blood test to see how my sugars have been over time. They have remained normal. I'm not technically pre-diabetic according to the numbers but I'm sort of pre-pre-diabetic due to family history and my sensitivity to sugar. I tend toward hypoglycemia normally and being put on a hypoglycemic (which is what diabetic medication is) would not be good for me right now. But you are very right that my doctor should be aware of what happened (I told him) and that I should continue to monitor my carb intake.
