ProudGrandma
you have a hot dish left over from supper...do you let it cool on the counter top first before putting it in the fridge? or do you just pop it in the fridge when you are done with the meal (or maybe the freezer)? K&Rs Mom
I let it cool first. Our new fridge has glass shelves, so now I'm really afraid to put a hot dish in, plus that heat has to go somewhere and it can raise the temp of the whole fridge. ProudGrandma
good...that is what I thought...how long is too long to sit out for any given meat dish ??
Lara in Colo
As a former restaurant person. THEY (whomever they are) say that you must put food in the fridge ASAP. I, however let it cool first, then it goes in the fridge. If it's winter, it cools outside :D Lara
Murphy101
Sigh I have no idea. My children always eat to capacity no matter how much food is prepared. I can't remember the last time we had leftovers of anything.
blondeviolin
I'll place a silicon hot pad on the shelf in the fridge and pop it in right away.
K&Rs Mom
good...that is what I thought...how long is too long to sit out for any given meat dish ?? Overnight is probably bad. I just check on it every time I go through/past the kitchen, and put it away when it feels coolish (not necessarily all the way down to room temp). We've had no problems with a couple hours, if something gets forgotten for a while.
Crissy
I put a cork trivet on the glass refrigerator shelf and put away the dish right after dinner.
alpidarkomama
I let it cool during dinner, but make sure it's covered while cooling. :)
ChristusG
I put it in the fridge right after we are finished with it. If I leave it to cool, I'll forget about it.

I can't remember the last time we had leftovers of anything. This is us too- and I double, if not triple most recipes. :001_huh: I'm lucky if I have enough left over for dh to have one Tupperware to put in the freezer for his lunch. FWIW, I pop those containers straight into the freezer since they're not that big and don't take long to cool anyways.

Rosie_0801
I leave our leftovers on the bench and reheat them for breakfast or lunch. I probably wouldn't do that if I lived in the tropics ;) Rosie
HLDoll
I usually let stuff cool for a bit (but I have to set a timer or I forget!). If I'm leaving it in the original pot/pan and it is still warm, I put a dish towel or large potholder/trivet in the fridge before setting anything on the glass shelves. If I'm transferring leftovers to other storage containers, I just stick them in there.
