Pink Fairy
These look like they were taken yesterday, but they are over 100 years old. It's really a fascinating look into the past, almost magical.
Tiberia
Very cool! A great reminder that history didn't happen in black and white.

ChristusG
So cool!! It's so hard to imagine history in color. I was looking at photos of the Titanic the other day and wondering what it truly looked like. Images become so much more "real" when seen in color. pqr
The strange thing is that many of those photos could have been taken today as in many areas of Russia the only changes you would see are some power lines and the ghastly Soviet apartments. Older parts of towns that avoided the "concrete monstrosity" still look very much like the photos depict.

Mothersweets
Wow! Amazing what color does to make everything in the photograph so much more real.
HappyGrace
That is COOL! We're doing a little side study (off our physics for sci) about George Eastman, history of photography, etc., so this fit right in! So neat to look at that time period in color-whole different perspective! Thanks!
Sebastian (a lady)
These look like they were taken yesterday, but they are over 100 years old. It's really a fascinating look into the past, almost magical. Wow, I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but those are stunning. I especially love #3, because my grandfather and great-grandfather were very talented iron molders and would have used equipment not unlike that shown. Mrs Mungo
Amazing photos! I love how saturated the colors are, how realistic the sky looks.
Pink Fairy
The strange thing is that many of those photos could have been taken today as in many areas of Russia the only changes you would see are some power lines and the ghastly Soviet apartments. Older parts of towns that avoided the "concrete monstrosity" still look very much like the photos depict. That's the same thought I had. I've never been to Russia, but the countryside in 1990 Czechoslovakia didn't look much different than some of these pictures. At first I was wondering if these were fakes, and I started looking for cars in the villages or some other sign that they were more recent photographs.
