Dooley
I defrosted chicken for dinner last night - in the afternoon I took a kid to an appointment and went to the store. Came home and another lovely daughter had cleaned up for me, moving the chicken out of sight, but on the counter. I assumed someone had put it back in the fridge until....just now! Its 10:20 and I found it on counter! Should I: 1. throw it away 2. cook it immediately, or 3. be able to cook it for tonight's dinner Its in the fridge now. Dobela
Ummm, does it feel cool? Maybe cook it right now making absolutely sure I get the temps way up to kill anything. Otherwise, I might throw it away.
Guest Dulcimeramy
Goodness. You have to throw it out.
Parrothead
Sadly that poor chicken needs to go to the landfill.
NanceXToo
Throw it away!
Dooley
Dang, I was hoping someone would say "I have cooked chicken that has been out a week and did not die." Or something like that. I will throw it away :(
Cinder
Agree with throwing it away. But a caution: if your trash pickup isn't today I'd put it in a trash bag and throw it in the freezer until trash day. Raw chicken in the trash bin reeks to high heaven! happi duck
Out all night? That chicken should be grounded for a month! :D
Jen in PA
Out all night? That chicken should be grounded for a month! :D  But seriously, I would toss it.
hornblower
My choice: 4. rinse it well & feed it to the dogs (4a - cooked & deboned; 4b - raw with bones)
LizzyBee
As long as it still felt cold to the touch, I would cook it. I usually thaw meat on the counter and have never made anyone sick from it. Edited September 4, 2010 by LizzyBee
AuntieM
Toss it! If you've ever had food poisoning, you wouldn't even want to consider keeping it.
3littlekeets
I never mess with Chicken or Pork. Sorry!
Miss Sherry
Toss it! If you've ever had food poisoning, you wouldn't even want to consider keeping it. Yes, throw it away. When I was a teenager a friend of mine ate a pork chop that was cooked and then left on the counter. She became terribly sick with vomiting, diarrhea and cramps. Miss Sherry
I read this right after reading the post about giving greens to our hens--my first thought was, "Wow! A chicken on the counter all night! That's going to be a lot of chicken poop to clean up!" Sorry!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Trish
If this were a famine I'd say add hot sauce and cook it, but if you haven'th had food poisoning in a while you probably don't want to experience it. What's a chicken, $5-$10? Calculate the cost of a trip to the emergency room. Or even a couple bottles of Maalox!

Pretty in Pink
Oh h3ll no, it must go!! :scared: ROFL! I third the mummification suggestion if you happened to stick that bugger in the freezer until trash day.
tampamommy
Bye, bye chicken. With a sad little cluck.
Dooley
I put it in the trash without freezing it, because I was afraid I would forget it was "that" chicken, thaw it and cook it later. Yes, my memory is that bad. So...we should come up with some kind of experiment with maggots, I am guessing.
