Perry
virtual high school? perfect for the virtual job market. This is a comment from a FB friend. What do you think she means by it?
secular_mom
I am hearing that she is saying virtual school is not *real* school.
Wyndie
At first glance, it makes me angry. But then I can imagine a few of my more joke-prone friends laying that out there and not meaning what it looks like. Is this person usually a joker? If not, I'd be irritated that they just implied that virtual education doesn't work in the real world.
teachermom2834
I think that is sarcasm- not a fan of the virtual high school option.
Perry
I am hearing that she is saying virtual school is not *real* school. That was my impression, but it surprises me coming from her. So I thought maybe I was misunderstanding.
secular_mom
Maybe she was out of Rice Krispies this morning? :)
MelanieM
You could assume she's being positive, and respond with something like "yes, with so many jobs being online/distance these days, virtual high school is a great real-world experience!" Then even if she's not being positive, you've nipped it in the bud in a kind way.
Melinda in VT
That was my impression, but it surprises me coming from her. So I thought maybe I was misunderstanding. I find that Facebook encourages me to go for the quip, even if it doesn't reflect my true feelings. Maybe she has the same problem?

This is along the lines of what I was gonna say, but you said it so well. :)
rwjx2khsmj
I think it's an example of someone attempting to be clever while forgetting that there is a real person at the other end of their keyboard.
newbie
I would say, I guess you are right, and along that same line, there are virtual "friends".
Jen500
It could also be more of a jab at virtual jobs, and just being insensitive to hs'ing.
Perry
Is this person usually a joker? She actually has a part time job as a stand up comedienne. She's very funny, usually.
lionfamily1999
She actually has a part time job as a stand up comedienne. She's very funny, usually. Oh, well then I'd say it was an attempt at humor. Maybe the response: (crickets) Could convey, in a jolly funny way, that the joke was not so funny. That's what I post when people make "jokes" like that on my page ;)
Mrs Mungo
She actually has a part time job as a stand up comedienne. She's very funny, usually. Ah, then I don't think she meant any harm. I think it's intended to be more of a statement on the economy than it is on your educational choices.
Julie in CA
She actually has a part time job as a stand up comedienne. She's very funny, usually. I actually think the comment *is* funny, and I'd probably respond with, "Yep, it's becoming a virtual world nowadays...as long as nobody starts a trend of "virtual toilet paper", we'll all be ok!" :D
funschooler5
Was it a response to a post, or just a general statement? If she just posted it out of the blue, I'd say she was just trying to be funny. If she was responding to a post of yours or someone else's, then I'd say she's trying to make a point. I'd go with that! Along with a virtual paycheque and no throwing virtual tomatoes! ha, that one would get her attention!
Saille
Ah, then I don't think she meant any harm. I think it's intended to be more of a statement on the economy than it is on your educational choices. This is *exactly* what I was about to say. Virtual jobs b/c there aren't any. Sebastian (a lady)
It could also be more of a jab at virtual jobs, and just being insensitive to hs'ing. I also thought that it was more likely to be a jab at jobs that are hard to find or that are using advances in technology to relocate to lower cost areas (like overseas outsourcing). OhM
You could respond with what I received after (I thought:D) making a joke: "Wow." Actually - I like the first response that was suggested - the "let-the-insult-go-over-your-head" one.
