SilverMoon
For my little ds. He's read nearly every Nate the Great our library has. His other favorites at the moment are Garfield and Calvin and Hobbes comics. The library is destined to run out of those soon too. Magic Treehouse books seem like the perfect reading level, but he's been exposed to them so much due to his older siblings, that he has no interest in them. They were my he-gobbled-up-all-the-Nates back-up plan. :tongue_smilie: His main likes are fast vehicles, power tools, construction, science, mystery and fun/humor. Think 6yo Tim Allen Jr. with a 2nd-3rd grade reading level. ;) His ooky radar is wound pretty tight though, and he doesn't do strong suspense/action well. The dragons and knights my oldest ds gravitated to would make little ds wrinkle his nose and say, "No, thanks." (For history and science he's in the ancients and astronomy, but he reads on all sorts of topics.)
Cranberry
hmm...don't have any suggestions, but can I lurk and get ideas for my kiddo? :001_smile: Would he like Mouse and the Motorcycle? I think the level would probably be ok for him.
MamaT
Not great literature, but at that age my son who loved humor read the Captain Underpants books.
Jen in PA
He might enjoy the Cam Jansen books. The title character is a girl, but she solves mysteries with her best friend, who is a boy.

MeAndTheBoys
My about-to-turn 7 year old DS has become OBSESSED with Nancy Drew. Just something to throw out there because I'm SURE it hasn't crossed your mind yet. I had bought a bunch of old Hardy Boys at a consignment sale b/c those seemed like the "right" thing to get him--but we read one aloud and--they just aren't appropriate for a 6 year old, I don't think--the boys are just so grown up; they can't relate. But Nancy is softer and not scary :) But if yours isn't quite wanting that-- N. has loved-- Geronimo Stilton Boxcar Children (to a degree--he gets tired of them) Cul-de-Sac kids E.B. White books (Charlotte's Web, trumpet of the swan, stuart little) Mouse and the Motorcycle series Carolyn Haywood--Betsy and Eddie books good luck!! Betsy For my little ds. Melissa H. in GA
recommend books Clyde Robert Bulla. My reluctant reader has read about 6 of these on his own and loves them. I also will second the author Carolyn Haywood. My ds is almost finished _Little Eddie_ and has asked me to ILL more of this series.
