  1. The couple few times I have cleaned my lamp shades, I have used one of those tape lint rollers and rolled the dust right off.
  2. I live in South Texas, and we always have tortillas in the house. Do you always have tortillas? Is it a staple? What brand do you like? We prefer Tortilla Land because there are just five ingredients. I haven't found any others that aren't just a list of chemicals. When we can't get Tortilla Land (which is only carried by the mart of walls here), we use La Tortilla Factory Low Carb Whole Wheat, because at least they are low carb, whole wheat.
  3. I don't have an Aldi, so I can't compare. I think, if I were you, I would make it a once a month trip, and stock up on things. Meat is definitely much much cheaper than the grocery store. Frozen convenience foods are generally much cheaper. We like certain brands of things, like Bush's beans, and those are cheaper there than the grocery store. Lunchmeat can be cheaper, so can cheese. Milk is NOT cheaper at the Commissary. Siimply Orange juice is. If you get a login, you can check the prices for your commissary from your home computer and comparison shop with your local stores. That's what I do. Then I can buy the cheapest thing from the cheapest place. Sometimes they have amazing deals on soda, or like around Halloween they had spooky cereal for a quarter a box.
  4. Oh my goodness! Sending positive thoughts your way!
  5. If it were me, I would put a table and chairs there, for board games and puzzles.
  6. Another home remedy for weird skin things at our house is a combo of triple antibiotic ointment and zinc oxide ointment (or maximum strength Desitin if you can’t get straight zinc oxide ). Works like charm!
  7. NSA, math teacher, administrative stuff. People are impressed by math majors. There is no direct pipeline like in nursing or engineering but employment shouldn’t be a problem. Attention to detail and problem solving skills are desirable.
  8. We moved last year and the year before. We packed ourselves. I want to say it was about $250 an hour for the movers, generally two guys. We moved locally with a half price movers type of outfit. I don't know about storage. We downsized from a 1300 sq. ft house to a 928 sq ft apartment, and then the next move was up to a 1135 sq ft apartment, where we will stay.
  9. Since the air conditioner is not working, that's who you call. 10 years tends to be about the life of an a/c (at least where I live). A whole new one was $13,000 a couple years ago. Best wishes!
  10. Heat index ("feels like" temperature) well over 110 every day this week. It's disgusting outside. How is everyone's weather?
  11. I have never been taught what to do. People pass by both ways here. It hasn't occurred to me to care.
  12. If he applied at usajobs.gov, he would have a big leg up since he is a veteran (you mentioned VA money).
  13. Yes, I suppose that's correct. I think that it's anywhere from $50 to $250 when I go to my dermatologist every few years to get things removed. Sometimes things are frozen, sometimes I am injected with numbing stuff, and they are removed. It doesn't seem that expensive for a medical procedure but ymmv.
  14. Paint the cabinets and get new hardware, and I think it could look stunning. You might not even notice that gap at the top any more.
  15. I think it is time. I’m so sorry.
  16. Gently, if you are not willing to let this be a superficial catch-up chat, you may lose her. Forever. Some times things are insurmountable and must be ignored or swept under the rug and just moved past. If you want a relationship.
  17. American Eagle is fairly expensive but much cheaper at Plato’s Closet thrift store. And they carry tons. Outlets are also good.
  18. Vans shoes. Adidas or Nike hoodies. American Eagle jeans. Lululemon shorts or yoga pants. Teva sandals. Eta: oh, but my dd is 22 not a teen. Oops.
  19. Duluth Trading makes women’s “adjustabust” high impact bra with sewn in cups. My current favorite.
  20. I would have him move it to the right location and then finish it. I would appreciate what he's done so far. I would discuss with him what I'd like to look different and if that is a viable possibility based on what is now done. He is doing it for me, and I appreciate that.
  21. So it's a year away, and so it might not even come to fruition. However, I feel you on the 10 hour thing. Since they have a support system of sorts in their current location, and it's more people than just one (you), and the drive to your location would be so horrific, I would leave them in their current location. Also, a thing to check on... in my dad's assisted living place, they will not make a person leave if they run out of funds. Something covenant something. They will keep them.
