Sanity check - what would you let your 17yo daughter do?
almondbutterandjelly replied to SKL's topic in The Chat Board
Personally, I would not facilitate a relationship between my newly 17 year old who lived 3 hours from her boyfriend. Those are called long distance teenage relationships, and they often die a natural death. I certainly wouldn't help it limp along. (You asked what the Hive would do.) -
Things I love about the 80s: Cavaricci pleated pants, high waisted jeans, Hawaiian shirts, polka dots, baggy sweaters, spandex shorts underneath regular shorts, Joe Boxer shorts worn as regular shorts for girls, decorative gloves, Madonna. Things I still love: All of the above except decorative gloves. Awful things about the 80s: Middle school That is all. I will bring AquaNet to the fight!

Need new morning coffee mug
almondbutterandjelly replied to almondbutterandjelly's topic in The Chat Board
You are awesome! PM'ing you. -
I need y'all's help on a very serious matter. For the past couple of years, I have been using lidless Disney plastic travel mugs (I think they are called Rapid Refill Mugs that you get from the Disney World hotels) for my morning coffee. They are the perfect size (16oz), and I love having the handle. I like that they are plastic because we break things here. However, they need to be replaced. The Disney characters have all but disappeared from the outside, and I need new holders for my morning coffee. I would also like them to have lids and the ability to fit in my car cup holder. What do you all use for your morning coffee? I can't find anything just right, and I don't want to buy used ones on eBay, so I need to go in a slightly different direction. Help a coffee drinker out.

I think an ultrasound on the gallbladder would be pretty definitive. Maybe you could ask for that? -
Are allergy-free, non-food Halloween treats "woke"?

I would call the Children/Family Ministries Director and have a chat about it. -
Have y'all tried DSW? They seem to have a number of size 4s on their website. We also have a local DSW store, although I haven't looked for that size, but just to say, it's a legitimate store. They carry Naturalizer, David Tate, and more.

I don't know if they would work for you, but my dd likes the Vega brand protein powders. -

We also on occasion have made homemade chorizo or homemade breakfast sausage, generally with ground turkey but any ground meat would work. Chorize: 1 lb ground meat, 1 tsp salt, 2T chili powder, 1/8 tsp ground cloves, 1T smoked paprika, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp oregano, 2T apple cider vinegar. She likes chorizo and beans together, generally in a tortilla. Breakfast sausage: 1 lb ground meat, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/2 tsp sage, 1/4 tsp savory, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp marjoram, 1/4 tsp black pepper We cook and freeze the meat for easy morning grabbing and nuking. -

My dairy, egg, and peanut free child currently enjoys tortillas filled with smashed pinto beans and turkey bacon. She is also a huge fan of Van's protein waffles and Applegate savory turkey sausage links. Owyn plant-based chocolate protein drinks are nice for her. Sunflower butter smeared on Ezekiel English muffins or Ezekiel toast is also good, and she likes bananas on them but other fruit would be nice as well. -
I agree that there should be no "crockpot taste." I think you need a new crockpot..

I’m confused why a computer can’t do better than 80 percent on grade school math problems.

Totally agree. DD was in college for covid lockdown. Thank the Lord she lived at home with us so she had some people interaction. As it was, it was really really tough. Ditto on the friendship difficulty. Her school wouldn't let any clubs or intramural sports meet either, except for religious ones because it's Texas and that's how they roll. Her junior and senior year were so much better because the lockdowns ended and most got vaccinated. Best wishes for your dd!

When I was younger, I recall angrily scrubbing the tub a few times, yes. I don't do it anymore. I rage simmer and watch tv or read the internet.

How long does this perimenopause thing last, anyway?
almondbutterandjelly replied to Dmmetler's topic in The Chat Board
When I turned 50, my doctor had me go off the pill and then after a couple weeks, had me do bloodwork. Her office told me that I was post-menopausal. Since then and pill-free, I've had three cycles at very regular intervals. Post-menopausal my a**. I'm a bit bitter. I'm more regular now than in my entire life. -
Of course not. Of all the things to get upset about. My goodness. It's a movie.

Threshold delivery cost? UPDATE #2 in first post
almondbutterandjelly replied to Kassia's topic in The Chat Board
I bought a couch when we lived in a third floor apartment, two years ago (in south Texas). Buy it from a furniture store. Absolutely pay for delivery, threshold or more elaborate. It's generally $50-65 for threshold. It's around $100 for them to bring it in and set it up. They do not charge extra for the third floor. Is dh's back worth that? Absolutely! -
