  1. Well, if MUS is truly working for you and the kids like it, I wouldn't switch. To answer your first question, though, yes they do. Even my eldest who is a words and language guy all the way "gets" it. I, who decidedly didn't "get" it growing up, now get it. My youngest, who enjoys math, is a perfect whiz. She doesn't have it all memorized (yet) but she does complex stuff in her head and gets the right answer. Hope that helps. Susan
  2. I don't buy it. In WWII strong women kept this country together. Seems like everyone has a story about a strong woman in their lives who made a difference. I think Michelle Obama is not thinking too clearly before speaking....
  3. Thanks for the encouragement today. I was glad to have it. :001_smile:
  4. I got mine from the dollar store. They're thinner than the floor types, but perfect for cleaning bathroom mirrors. FWIW, Susan
  5. I've faced two bookshelves toward each other and turned them into a closet with a tension rod and curtain. That created a little space for us.
  6. Raw broccoli with dip=trees with snow. It worked. DS was convinced he loved broccoli until he was 6.:001_smile:
  7. I haven't seen it, but I want to catch the new Chronicles of Narnia that's out. Can't tell you if it is any good, but it's what I'd see given the chance for a date.:001_smile: Have fun! Susan
  8. I don't mean to be a wet blanket (particularly since I am one who will eat virtually anything, have lived in various locations in the third world, shopped from the local markets on a daily basis overseas, and have been know to use things waaay past their expiration dates), BUT, I wouldn't cook the chicken in the crock pot given the givens. In the oven, though, that's a different story. Then again, dh once drank raw chicken juice by mistake (loooong story) and was just fine.:tongue_smilie: So there you go. Bon apetit! :001_smile: Susan
  9. When we got back from Africa, it took me a year to be able to go into a superstore comfortably. Especially WalMart. I hated that place. I would ask the lady at the front where to go to find _____ and then put my head down, walk over there, choose my thing and check out. I also hated all the choices on the shelves. It took too long to choose. LOL Dh, on the other hand, loved automatic doors. For the first three months back, he'd walked through with a big grin on his face and said, "I feel like a king with all these doors opening for me!" :001_smile: Susan
  10. I prefer to keep them with us. I think the corporate worship is good for everyone, and it gets skipped in kid's church. Susan
  11. My kids both went through this...turns out they wanted to ride a school bus. So we went for rides on a city bus and looked at a school bus, and they were happy. All the best! Susan
  12. DH gets to sleep all day and eats whatever he chooses. He's snoring away in his dream world right now. Poor guy never gets enough rest.... Susan
  13. That's great! I wish there were more coaches like him! (Having said that, though, I am glad for all who make such a time commitment to coach....) Susan
  14. We just got a puppy from the Shelter, and I have to say she is the sweetest dog I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. It took us a try or two, but she is definitely special. I would recommend adopting any day, based on our experiences. (She's housebreaking quickly, too.) HTH, Susan
  15. I liiiike it! Now I'm gonna hafta go look at Scions instead of just lusting after the Toyota Matrix....
  16. I think I'd let them practice washing *all* the cups. By hand. Every time they chose a new one. I'd bet it would take two days to solve the problem. :-) Susan
  17. We'll join your study, but I hafta get some cider vinegar. How long does it take to grow the mother? :-)
  18. You could call your local university's international student advisor for recommendations of a nice college student from a totally different part of the world, and take her along. Or, ask the Rotary club for a nice Rotary exchange student in your area. She'd be guaranteed to enjoy herself--plus in my experience, foreign students are almost always very gracious when invited along. You'd only be paying for one extra person and you'd make a new friend without the extra expense and hassle. Most international college students never get to experience life with a "real" American family. My immigrant dh was fortunate enough to meet a family who invited the entire International Christian Fellowship at Temple Univ. over for Thanksgiving one year, and he has never forgotten their kindness. It's been 17 years, and he still talks about it. Just a thought. Susan
  19. Hummus on pita bread and chilled yogurt sauce made with shredded cucumbers and finely diced onions. The combo is unbeatable on a hot day. Susan
