  1. Just wanted to chime in with our experience. My ds was on Pulmacort and had severe body aches until we took him off. It took a while to figure out what was causing it, and we are relieved to have him off. Unfortunately, symptos have been on the rise. I have heard that eliminating wheat and dairy can help, and I am probably going to do that come January. *sigh* FWIW, Susan
  2. Thanks to Bill's post about lead in crock pots, I discovered via a link that my china set (Gibson) is positive for lead. We have been using it for 7 years! :tongue_smilie:I am not ready to buy a new set, but my mom gave me an discarded set of Pfaltzgraff for the time being. I eventually want to buy a set that is all white, like my leadified set. :glare: In the meanwhile, I need a couple of pieces like a serving bowl and a butter dish. If you were me, would you buy in the pattern I eventually want, or in the current pattern? TIA! Susan
  3. at least there used to be. I didn't read any of your other replies, but I wanted to say for the record that I used this train ticket sold specifically in Italy, for Italy. I could go anywhere in the country up to 1000 kilometers. I traveled all over and didn't use it up. I remember that it was well worth the price. Just be careful on the trains near Rome. Crime is high and someone tried to rob me there, but didn't manage to get anything. :-) The lesson I learned there is that less is more. Travel as lightly as possible instead of looking like an overstuffed pack animal, and people will probably leave you alone. FWIW, Susan
  4. Many congrats to your husband! He has a great opportunity to shape a lot of young lives. :001_smile:
  5. It's hard to pick just one. Each has special attraction. If you are interested in doing a historical tour, I'd choose the time frame and then the country accordingly. Greece/Turkey would be fabulous for ancients. The biblical landmarks are all there, and you could do the circuit in ten days at a clip. In Turkey, Mavi Yoculuk (Blue Tours) will take you on a boat tour of major spots along the Med. It's really lovely. Then again, I once traveled through Italy on my own and had a great time. You could do Italy in less than 10 days, IMHO, and still hit all the high points. If you wanted a different time frame, I'd choose a different country.
  6. :iagree: I have this pen and love it. DH says he's seen this model for as low as $22.
  7. Sheaffer pens are available on the net for $4 or $5 (lower end, obviously). Sheaffer calligraphy pens can be found individually at crafts stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael's. Pilot Varsity, already mentioned, are disposables with a steel nib. They're not too bad, but not super smooth, either. We get ours at Office Max. Staples often has them, but not always. For reuseables, fountain pen ink is difficult to come by. Staples usually carries it in black and blue. The best ink is online from the Fountain Pen Hospital in NY,NY. It's called Noodler's. DH thinks the Cross pen I gave him 14 years ago is the best. It was around $80 then, and is comparable now. Staples has lower cost Waterman's around Christmas time for $25 or $30, and they come with a nice nib. I prefer the medium nib. All that to say, no, you're not alone. :001_smile: Susan
  8. I asked DH about this, and his suggestion was to have a firm grasp of the parables, then to practice looking for applications in other cultural stories. He reminded me of a missionary who did this, who took the time to learn the stories of the culture and then looked for the corresponding parable. It made a big difference for him between connecting to the hearers and losing them. In fact, most of one village was saved due to this sort of story exchange— the missionary recorded their stories, and they asked him to tell his. :001_smile:
  9. Worldview would be on the top of my list. We were missionaries in Mozambique for a while, and now I am helping a mission write a worldview curriculum at the post secondary level for Africans. It will be used in a vocational training situation. In on our discussions is a Nigerian man who lives here in the US and is very highly educated. We have been discussing world view and Africa, and it's been extremely insightful to me to see the cultural ramifications of worldview on a people group. It's fascinating, actually. That having been said, everything previously mentioned is solid advice. Business management and practical skills would probably be just below worldview on my list. I have seen missionaries who have never worked in the "real" world get into a management situation and have a terrible time trying to figure out how to run things without hurting folks (usually other expats, not so much the local population).
  10. Ours is a mix, we think Border Collie/Papillon. She's got the Papillon tail and ears, at any rate, and can jump HIGH! We got her from the humane society, who picked her up as a stray.... Such a fun addition to the family, though, we love her (and yes, she gets bent out of shape on occassion, too)! Susan
  11. Try The Enormous Crocodile and The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. Both are good reads for a 6 y/o boy.
  12. Dunno. I always freeze ours in ice cube trays and use it by the cube all year (2 cubes serves 4).
  13. Cheryl, our dog looks like yours! Too cute. Susan
  14. I decided to join the blogosphere in part because I have enjoyed your Wordless Wednesdays and have a few good ones of my own to share. Surf on over to my blog and see.... And post yours, too! :driving:
  15.:lol::lol::lol::lol: Oh, I am breathless! That is so funny!
  16. We use tile board here, too, drilled straight into the wall. We use expo markers and clean it with rubbing alcohol. Works great! Susan
  17. DD had these on her eyelid—white bumps, not watery or pus-filled, and a bunch on one eyelid. The doc said they were enclosure cysts, or some such thing. Basically, the skin was irritated by something and the immune system enclosed a cyst around the irritant to protect itself. Eventually, they disappeared as quickly as they came, but it took a few months. HTH, Susan
  18. I am still irritated by the whole affair, though not as upset as I was when I first posted. Bear in mind I had two small kids screaming and crying in fright when I posted. First in my mind was warning the rest of the board so the same thing wouldn't happen to anyone else's dc. Nonetheless, I take strong exception to the tattling remark. It was a lousy prank, imo, and should be flagged—period. Susan
  19. It shows an absolutely horrid image and my kids and I were all terribly disturbed by it. I wish I knew how to report a thread to the administrators, because I would if I could. It is the thread that says, Maze see how far you can get by Gamom3.
