  1. I was hoping that this thread would be one of those epic ones that go on forever, but it appears that I killed it. Sorry, Bill, for posting. :crying: Signed, ~the thread killer
  2. The Bible contains some of the most beautiful language in all of literature. I had such a hard time deciding on one verse or passage. The following is probably not the best choice, but it is one of my favorites. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
  3. We are going to be using HOD for the first time this year. Previously, we have always used textbooks so this is going to be very new to us. The children and I are super excited.
  4. Our expensive month is May. 3 birthdays, our anniversary, and Mother's day (if you count that, which we barely do)
  5. I like the choice of these 4 verses. Very appropriate to family life. :D
  6. For memorization, I don't really have set verses or passages that we memorize in any order...just whatever I feel is important to us as a family at that time. Passages that I want my children to learn at some point would be: Psalm Chapter 1 Psalm Chapter 24 Hebrews Chapter 11 the Sermon on the Mount Those are the ones that came to my mind right off. There are many others. We like to memorize chapters or sections rather than verses. Right now we are working on the book of James.
  7. We went 2 years ago as part of our family vacation. We took the tour, but just on our own. No guide and no horse-drawn wagon ride. But we did have the tour papers which explained things along the way. We didn't have to pay to do it that way...and it was still fun and educational. I actually think I preferred going on our own as opposed to going with a group. Well, except for the ride. The children would have really wanted to join in with that. I don't know what else there is to do there so I can't comment on the rest. Have fun. ;)
  8.:lol: Now I know why I can't cut back on my WTM addiction. Who would want to miss out on this thread? :D
  9. Carpe, I would appreciate a PM. I "think" I understand what is going on, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.
  10. Wow...I think we are the cheapest. 2 gallons for $5.00 Small blessings. :D
  11. Our next door neighbor girl is a Katherine. Everyone calls her "Cat"
  12. Hey, this pretty much describes the way we do things around our place. We too start with Bible study/singing first. I think it helps set the mood for the day. And then math.... because I so agree with the shrinking brain theory. :D
  13. Just wanted to add my welcome. WELCOME! this is a great place. And the lap books are a great idea. I first heard about them here on this forum and can't wait to do some this next school year. ~Jen
  14. I was listing 4 or 5 different posts on the "For Sale" forum. The last one didn't go through because of this reason. I just thought it was a glitch in the system. Erased the post and reposted. It went through fine the second time.
  15. The only thing ready around here is strawberries and I don't need any more strawberry jam....so not doing anything right now. The strawberries are being eaten fresh or given away to neighbors/friends. ;) So far this year the only thing I have canned is 84 quarts of spaghetti sauce/pizza sauce but that was from bent-and-dent tomato products. Nothing from the garden yet.
  16. Hey, me too. Except that I am dipping mine in Hershey's chocolate syrup. MMMMM......
  17. I am sitting here in Montana feeling a tad left out as well. I don't think we even hit 70 yesterday. The house was rather chilly because the windows were open all night long. We just haven't had that enough sun this summer. And too much rain. So, yes, the landscape which is usually brown by now is wonderfully green. But the garden isn't ripening like it should and the farmers are having a horribly hard time getting their hay in because of all the rainstorms. It has been weird.
  18. Wow, Cindy, that is an amazing place you've got there. I would buy it just for the yard :D Good luck on selling it.
  19. :iagree: I so agree with this and prayer is something that you can do regardless of where you are in life.
