  1. I have not used any of the resources mentioned by the other posters so I am not sure how they would compare to "Seterra". It is a free download to learn anything from continents to state capitals to major cities to flags. My children love it. It is timed and they can compete against each other or their own best scores.
  2. Another suggestion: My children have spent literally days listening to John Bunyon's Pilgrim's Progress Part One (Christian's story) and Part Two (Christiana's story). The set I have is fully dramatized with 12 CD's in all. It is so beautifully done with 70 different voices and background music. They are rather expensive to buy retail but some churches have bought the rights to copy them and so can make them available to their congregation. That's how I got my set. Of course, the Christian theology presented in "Pilgrim's Progress" might not be the same as what your family believes. For our family it was a perfect fit. But if not, you can just disregard this suggestion. ;)
  3. My children (ages 5-10) love Trumpet of the Swan, narrated by E.B. White. I can get if from my library as a free 14 day download. I have borrowed it 3 or 4 times already. And it is interesting enough that I don't mind listening to it again and again. :001_smile: ~Jen
  4. When I first started homeschooling I was more or less trying to replicate the way the public schools did things....same subjects, segregated classes by age, 6 hours a day, etc..... How liberating it was too all of a sudden realize one day (quite recently, actually :001_smile:) that I could do whatever I wanted. If I wasn't going for their results, why use their methods? I love this thread.....it's very enabling :D
  5. I am new to the forum so first let me say hello. :001_smile: About the question: I went through this with my oldest when I first started homeschooling her. She had never been to public school, but she knew what it was like. We talked about it and what she was longing for was the structure, the desk, the blackboard......the "trappings" of public school." So we moved from the kitchen table to an official school room set up like she wanted. That was the last time she ever mentioned wanting to go. I understand that my experience won't apply to every situation, but maybe by talking about it with your dc you could find such an easy solution with her.
  6. Just wanted to thank whoever started this thread. I have been looking for something like MEP but didn't know how to find it. It looks perfect for what I need.
  7. I have actually never been on the Sun Road. My husband has though and took some pictures. Breathtaking......
  8. Oops, sorry, I meant sky-diving as well. That's what comes of trying to do too many things at once.......:blushing:
  9. 3 kiddos - 10 year old girl and two boys - one is 8 and the other almost 6. Moved from semi-rural NY to VERY rural Montana a year and half ago. Loving the mountains. Not loving that the nearest shopping is 2 hours away. No, I have never gone ski-diving, although it looks like great fun  Been homeschooling for 5 years but always with textbooks. I am really looking forward to trying something different next year. HOD or something like that.
  10. I have been lurking a long time now and thought it was about time I said thanks for all the help/free advice I have received from you all. So thank you everyone for making this such an interesting place to hang out :001_smile: ~Jen
