  1. I probably drink 5 or 6 cups of tea a day. But my husband doesn't really care for it, so we never drink it together. He knows how much I love my tea so while we were dating he pretended to like it. Once we were married he confessed to his duplicity and told me he doesn't like it. How sneaky of him ;)
  2. My children really like to play "Set"...it is a card game, not a board game, though. We love it because the children have just as good a chance to win as the adults do. And the adults don't get bored with it.
  3. You are so right. I have been so saddened hearing about this and never even thought to pray.
  4. This maybe doesn't beat yours, but it made me so upset...... We have a 5 acre lot that's completely fenced. Female german shepherd puppy that's about one year old. Man walks past with his dog and of course my dog is running alongside the fence (on the right side) and starts barking enthusiastically at the strange dog. We live in the country and don't get too many people going past so I went out to see what the commotion was. The man saw me and started cursing me out saying if I don't control my dog, he will shoot her. I was so mad, but didn't say anything. He was far away enough that I would have had to yell, and who wants to get into a shouting match with a stranger that's apparently a little crazy. :glare:
  5. It matters to me very much....just wouldn't say it is a cornerstone, meaning I don't think it is a matter of salvation. Having said that I feel that the Bible is the inerrant word of God and that it cannot fail no matter the subject, so I hate to see doubt cast on any part of it. Now I might not like everything that Ken Ham has said/done recently, but I agree 100 percent with him when he says that "the Bible is not a science book, but where it touches on matters of science, it is perfectly accurate." Should I be ducking? :D
  6. I introduced myself awhile back on the K-8 forum, but I spend quite a bit of time on this one as well. I have learned so much on this forum so first a big thank you for all the great advice I have gleaned so far. I can't figure out if you all have saved me money by steering me away from programs that wouldn't work for my family or if you have cost me money by introducing me to so much good stuff I never knew about before. ;) My oldest is in 6th grade and we have homeschooled all the time. Mostly, though, just with textbooks. (Abeka) Next year will be our first year doing a more eclectic approach. I am a bit nervous, but very excited. So are the kiddos. I have three kiddos: dd10, ds8, and ds5. We live in the farthest Northwest corner of Montana in the middle of nowhere. :D
  7. Oh, my, you forget how tiny they come, even after having 3!! What a sweet looking baby he is. Congratulations. :grouphug:
  8. :D Seriously, I know I couldn't do quite a few of those things.....esp. anything to do with emergency medicine.......
  9. :iagree:Oh, I definitely agree on that one. Done badly it is not art....just a mess. I am glad I am not the only one. (BTW, I love your signature.....so true....not sure I could plan an invasion though. I would leave that to my 2 boys). ;)
  10. :iagree: Math should be fun. My kiddos loved doing math puzzles while driving. Easy stuff like addition and subtraction facts. Or questions like 6 plus what makes 10....that's an equation with a variable....pretty heavy stuff for a 5yo. :D
  11. I have been intrigued with SM for awhile now but have never used it. It sounds like such a really neat program. After much research, soul-searching, and lost sleep I finally decided to go with Mammoth Math, mainly because of the price. I hope I won't regret it. ;)
  12. Does anyone else think that a well done sentence diagram or a long elegantly worked out algebra/geometry problem is beautiful....almost like art. I said something like this to my family once and they looked at me like I was crazy. :001_unsure:
  13. I second Math Mammoth. We are switching to MM next year from Abeka. One of my children is behind in math and the other just loves math. Both are going to work through summer to catch up with/get ahead of their grade level. MM's website is a little confusing at first...at least it was for me....but it's worth working through it. She has tons of samples for each level so you can almost place your children by just looking through them. At least that's what I did and it ended up working good.
  14. :001_smile::001_smile::001_smile: Ha, that's the same thing I think every time I see that title. This thread is so funny.
  15. What a blessing. Hope you feel better. :grouphug:
  16. I was going to suggest Rod and Staff but I see that someone already did. I have never used it before.....looks kind of boring, really........but I see it recommended on here so often that I am going to switch to it next year. We have done Abeka all our lives, so it will be new for us.
  17. :iagree: The shiniest curriculum isn't worth anything unless you use it. ;)
  18. :iagree::iagree::iagree: I love NCIS and NCIS LA. It took me awhile to get used to LA, but by now I like it almost as well....um, maybe more. Another good cop show is Flashpoint. Hostage rescue situations. Other than those 2, I don't watch much TV.
  19. I agree on the copywork - I use scripture or poem memorization that they are working on, but you could pick anything you like. Typing We do Rosetta Stone French - not very faithfully but I sometimes use it when I want them to stay in "school mode" but can't give them my attention right then. Reading to the younger is great also.
  20. These stories are just crazy. And way too funny. I thought I had it bad, but my family is extremely well adjusted comparatively. :001_unsure:
