  1. I don't know how it is in other states....... but in Georgia, if you homeschool you are exempt from jury duty....... at least until the kids are a certain age or something.
  2. I used Phonics Pathways with Happy Phonics.......... it worked like a charm! :D (.......for the girls, the boy cost me a bundle with all the phonics programs we went through and now he's finally beginning to read..... and we ended up with PP and Happy Phonics........ grrrrr! ).
  3. The Bible...... and The Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. ..........and what I just "feel" is the right thing.
  4. Not unpopular with me :D . We have always told the children that Santa is just part of the whole season..... that Mom and Dad are who provides the presents. Santa represents the "spirit" of giving...... but isn't real. ....... we have also told them that they aren't to whisper a word of this to other children because we wouldn't want to ruin the illusion/joy/lie for them. :tongue_smilie: They still choose to "believe"....... but they know the truth... the choice after that is theirs to make.
  5. My Mother is eighty! (I now officially feel old)...... she loves her electronic/computer/whatever you call it picture frame that has been loaded with a ton of pictures of her kids (all 8!) and her grandkids (all 15 or so).
  6. I had an Australian Cattle Dog that I used to show...... as a puppy..... as he grew he no longer fit the Breed Standard so we had him neutered. He was over a year old and I never noticed any difference between that age and younger dogs I have had neutered.
  7. I used to tell people that I wanted to be the crazy old lady down the street that everyone went to for advice/help/conversation...... that I'd have cool stories to tell, a bizarre life to recount, etc........... My Mom says that I used to say this from the time I was very little (no, I'm not normal :D ). You know, like the "witch" in the old Disney movie Thomasina...... like that and more. I'm pretty much what I wanted to be........:lol::lol:
  8. I love smelling old books........ I've been collecting books from the early 1900's...love to smell them..... and sometimes I even read them. :D
  9. My son used to pronounce "chocolate" without the "h" ....... it came out with a hard "c" ......... and the "late" was pronounced like "lick". Cok-lick ........ it was funny. guess you had to be there.......
  10. Hubby has been unemployed for 5 months right now.......... 5 MONTHS!!! I'm going insane.......... I quiz the kids and he gives the answers......"Mark! You are 54.... I know you know the answer.... give the kids a chance!!!" :banghead: Someone please get this guy a job!!!:lol::lol:
  11. West of Atlanta.......... Rockmart, to be exact-ish. :D
  12. We got a new heat pump not too long ago..........and kept our cruddy windows....... but put shades on them. Our electric bill has never been lower!
  13. I thought I wwas the only one that had a child that didn't capitalize!!! My Dd is 10 and never capitalizes....not even her own name. I've decided she must have some connection with e.e. cummings.
  14. There you go!!!! ............and as soon as you let the butterflies fly free........... you'll find the old habitat!!
  15. They stay in the little jar for a week or two, don't they? (ours did, anyway) Then when they attach to the lid of the container... then you take out the paper they have attached to and pin it (with the crysalisi) into the habitat that you no longer can find............ so you have a couple of weeks to find the original one. You can find other types of bug containers at science suppliers or maybe something suitable at School Box or maybe even Toys R Us.
  16. My husband got laid off from work 5 months ago......... our whole life is on a different (weird) schedule.
  17. I/We don't belong to any groups......... I've tried a couple but have decided that I'm just not a "joiner"....... and would hate that touchy-feely kind of group and so would my hubby. ........... and yet, somehow we all survive and we are all fairly normal...... :tongue_smilie: well, more or less. :D I personally think hs groups are highly overrated........ and when they start imitating public school (prom, yearbooks, etc.... I have to wonder why).... but like I said, I'm not a "joiner" and tend to be somewhat of a loner anyway... love people, love to talk, but don't want to know someone's "heart"...... (is that cruel?).
  18. It sounds like you just described my childhood!! *sigh* Why are kids (people) so mean? For me, I didn't have a soft place to land........ my home was full of kids and I was the quiet obedient one that caused no problems, so I was brushed aside for those that demanded more attention. I struggled with this kind of thing all by myself. I came out of it okay.....but it would have been nicer to have a soft place. My thoughts are to support her......... don't coddle her, but support her and let her know some of the motives for this kind of ...... jealousy, peer pressure, etc. She has the empathy (so do/did I).... so let that work for her... she shouldn't strike back at this behavior but just avoid it at this point. I, personally, don't feel that trying to reason with the mean girls will do any good at this point...... but knowing that they are being bullied themselves by the notion that this is how girls behave. They have become victims of the belief that girls are mean and nasty and uncaring little turds......something that is so unlike the children of God that they really are. (I'm Christian, so if my answers are off the mark, adjust to your beliefs). Give her courage....... she will get through this. Support and guidance are what she needs now..... what incredible character your daughter has shown already!!! She will make it through this and come out stronger........and maybe even be friends with these girls....... and she will have the poise and grace to overlook the meanness and just love. My thoughts are with you both.....and the perps.
  19. Afternoon school works well for us most of the time....... particularly in the summer. The kids can play in the pool, watch tv, hang out........ and then after lunch we start doing our schooling. I like it better because I get to sleep in! :D
  20. My two young girls go to camp in less then a month.......... me and the boy (7) are gonna miss them horribly!!! I can hear it now....... "Are they back yet?" "Are they back yet?" "Are they back yet?":lol:
  21. Never heard that........ but I'm off to google it. :D
  22. Why do I have visions of the old "ringing the doorbell, lighting a paper bag of poop and running away" gag in my head!:lol: Oh yeah!! 'cause I'm sick and twisted!! :D
  23. Not only was it off by about 30 pounds.......... but after NOT using it for 6 days it said I lost 22 pounds!!! ..........and trust me, I wasn't dieting at all.
  24. We do the bulk of our schooling in the summer....... its too hot to go outside and do much else then swim in our blue blob. We hardly do any schooling in the fall or spring when its gorgeous out. (so by the time summer rolls around I'm desperately trying to cram the curriculum into the kids and fulfill the 180 days  . ).
  25. Nope....the little dude is intact. We didn't see a need for it...but its funny how the boy comes to me when there are issues with his penis and doesn't go to Dad. What's up with that? I know more about my son's penis then I ever thought possible.:leaving::laugh:
