  1. Awww, what a sweet couple. Your son is very handsome and she is absolutely lovely. :) Congratulations. :)
  2. Yeah, that one wouldn't work for you then. Did you try searching Google? Hopefully someone else here will have one for you. :) Good luck. :)
  3. :) Thank you. :) If the lavender bikkies should turn out to be a disaster though (my cooking skills I mean Rosie, not your recipe. :) ), what do you all think of a Dunkin Donuts gift card or a Barnes and Noble card?
  4. I used this code about two weeks ago. "289107tr" I don't know what the expiration date is on this one. It is for 10% off of orders over $35.00, but it wound up equalling the amount of my shipping so it worked out well for me. I hope this helps you. :)
  5. :iagree: I think they actually ARE bugs of the sea! YUCK. Crustaceans! BLECK! Give me something with scales that swims! ;) :D
  6.  Wow!!! That is AWESOME!! That's amazing that she beat out kids that much older than her. You must be so proud. Your daughter is an amazing little girl to have so much emotional maturity to be able to handle that situation and to perform so well under those kinds of pressures and anxieties. I say you have every right to brag! :) hehe Way to go mom! :) You've got a special little girl there. :)
  7. Ay, I know!! It seems the season starts earlier and earlier all the time. I'm down here on the Atlantic side between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami and we're still getting soaked from that system. I cannot thank you ladies enough for committing to pray with me. May God richly bless you all for your sacrifice and faithfulness. May he keep all of us safe this season. :grouphug: Jennifer
  8. You can try a woolite and water solution cut 10:1. (1 part woolite to 10 parts water). Use a soft terry small towel or a microfiber and wash the area and then rinse with clean water and a separate towel and dry right away to avoid streaking. :) Good luck. :)
  9. Maybe through his myspace page? http://www.myspace.com/christomlin Maybe one of his friends could contact him directly on the phone if they see the message?
  10. Hey all. :) I've been here dreading the start of hurricane season this coming Monday and hoping that we have another easy year. I was praying this when a lightbulb went off in my head and I thought, "why don't I start a prayer thread on WTM forum and get a big corporate prayer going?" Hurricane season starts June 1st and ends November 30th. I was just watching a report on my local news tonight that said that Florida isn't ready to deal with another big hurricane and if we aren't then I'm positive New Orleans or Galveston aren't. So I'm asking, for those who are inclined, will you pray for the next 5 months for God's protection and that we have an uneventful hurricane season? If you are willing would you mind just letting me know in this thread? I ask for a couple of reasons. 1) Most practically, because it will keep the thread bumped and more people will see it. ;) hehe 2) Because 5 months is a long time and I think it will help with the commitment if one feels a sense of accountability to others. 3) and lastly, I think it will be a great source of comfort to those here who live in hurricane prone areas to see how many people are praying for them. So will you join me? I think it will be an exciting thing to see how God will work in the midst of so much corporate prayer. :) My most heartfelt thanks to all who choose to participate. I pray God's blessing on you all and that He will keep us safe and protected this hurricane season. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Blessings, Jennifer :)
  11. Ah I see. :) Well one more Florida fact then. hehe, The Miccosukee tribe is the only tribe that has never signed a treaty with the US government. They are called "The Unconquered" for that reason. :)
  12. I don't know if these will fit the bill for you? http://www.hometrainingtools.com/catalog/science-by-grade-level/cat_elementary-science-for-prek-2.html
  13. Not to throw in a monkey wrench but Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow might be nice for a boy too. :) I agree with everyone else about the Little House series. They're wonderful books. I couldn't put them down when I started reading them with my dd. I stayed up late at night reading ahead so she wouldn't see me. hehe I just HAD to know what happened next. :D
  14. I would say that individual differences make it hard to generalize a specific method. Although the Aspie kids have a lot of things in common, they may manifest differently for each child. A lot of Aspie's also have accompanying problems like ADHD or OCD also which complicates things all the more. Sensory issues, hyperfocusing on certain things for example. For myself, I take my daughters strengths and weaknesses into account and play to her strenghts and try to develop strategies to improve her weaknesses. For example, she is really strong in language and reading so we tend to have a lot of discussions when having school I also use "social stories" (books that develop social skills) with my daughter since she is so fond of reading. I look at the specific areas that she's stuggling with and choose one topic and write a story about that. I wrote one for example called "What people say and what people mean" to help her be aware of and read body language and facial expressions. I had a speech bubble and a separate thought bubble for each of the characters so that she could see that sometimes people say what they mean, but other times they don't and you have to look at their facial expressions and body languages for clues. I also have to work around her OCD and create schedules and lists for her to check off. It helps calm her allows her to feel in control and to know what is coming next. I also use a reward system to encourage her to do the tasks that she doesn't like. Those are just some of the strategies I have developed in teaching her over the years that work for us. :)
  15. Beach is great! The air is warm and it is beautiful at night. I found a little secluded spot that I absolutely love. It is a sea turtle nesting ground so it is protected. There are no houses or buildings and it is dark, but still not dark enough to see the stars unfortunately. Too much residual light from the cruise ships and the city. But it is beautiful. I love to go there at night. I wish I could do it more often than I do, but with a hubby and kids, it's not as easy to pop out and go to the beach like it was when I was single.
  16. It's 3:03am here. I wish I could see the stars good where I live. *sigh* The only time I can see the stars is after a hurricane. :( But I do live less than 2 miles from the ocean and I get some nice breezes from there. :) If I could, I'd drive down to the beach right now and look for seaturtles. :)
  17. I refuse to stop believing that someday I WILL be a rock star! :D ;) hehe
  18. Disneyland (California) or Disneyworld (Florida)? St. Augustine is just a couple of hours northeast of Disneyworld. :) Lots and lots of history, plus it's on the water and it's just a beautiful city. :)
  19. Well, I don't know if you would view Florida as Spanish history or US history, but we have some great stories here too. We have the oldest national monument in the United States (El Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine) We have also the first settlement in the United States. Oldest school house etc. Juan Ponce de Leon who was the governor of Puerto Rico at the time heard of a land to the west that had a fountain that if a person drank the waters of it they would live forever. He believed the legend so much that he organized a expedition to go and find it. When he arrived in St. Augustine and he saw the Timucuan Indians who were living there he was so impressed with their vitality and youthfulness that he was certain that the Fountain of Youth must indeed be there. He asked the Indians where it was and they showed him a spring that was their water source. He drank from the water believing it was the Fountain of Youth. He laid a cross there with 15 stones lengthwise and 13 stones crosswise to symbolize the year. 1513. It is still there today. As an interesting aside, Ponce de Leon did not live forever, but he did wind up living well beyond the life expectancy of his day and he died in a battle from a wound. ;) :D There is also British history involved with Florida as the St. Augustine settlement was a victim of Sir Francis Drake's cruelty. He apparently came there looking for gold and came with a huge number of warships ready for battle. It was just a small settlement with the one fort protecting it and when he came and found no gold. He burned the entire settlement, stole what he could and then put salt on the ground so that no crops would grow and left the people to starve. Not very nice of him. Here is a picture of the castle from when we were there a few years ago. This is a cool link to see it in more detail in panorama http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6f/Castillo_de_San_Marcos_Fort_Panorama_3.jpg
  20. Epa!! My ironing basket is so huge now that there are clothes that haven't seen the light of day in over a year! I just wonder, if I ever even get that basket caught up, if the clothes will still be in style??:tongue_smilie:
  21. That seems simple enough. A few questions though. What is castor sugar?? Do you use fresh or dried flowers and where does one find them? What is a "dessert spoon"? How would it equate with a teaspoon or a tablespoon. What is the yield of this recipe?? Thanks hon. "It's Shaun the sheep... It's Shaun the sheep..."
  22. What do you ya'll think about a Dunkin Donuts card?? Would that be good? I Googled Panera because I have never heard of it before. It looks nice indeed, but all of the stores are at least 10 miles in all directions from my zip code. I figure Dunkin would be more easier to find?? What do you think? Or maybe a Barnes and Noble card for the teacher??
