  1. There was a thread I started about this very thing that might help you. :) http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94869
  2. We have a similar story. I have two with Autism too and they were both vaccinated. My brother's first born has Autism and had the MMR so he didn't vaccinate his kids anymore after that. His second born has more severe Autism than the first and has never had a shot in his life. I worry though about the fear of vaccinations bringing back serious diseases that have been irradicated. The vaccine has never been proven to have caused Autism. It is a mystery. I know a lady who has identical twins and one has profound Autism and the other is typical. My neurologist says that he thinks it is something genetically latent and has an environmental trigger. Who knows? If I did I'd be a rich lady too. ;) :)
  3. I was scared to death and didn't know what I was going to do, but I put my trust in the Almighty and got on the roller coaster. It has been one amazing ride so far. I never would have thought that a little baby could do so much, but you have. You've taught me to take my focus off myself and put it onto another who needs it more. You've taught me to be very creative when it comes to trying to manage colic at 2 am. You've taught me that little babies can actually have hurricane force winds in their diapers. You've taught me that I don't really need sleep. (Sleeping's for wimps!) :tongue_smilie: You've taught me to love another person more deeply than I'd ever imagined was possible. You've taught me to be selfless when I really want to be selfish (still learning this one). You've taught me to have selective hearing. (how is it possible that I can hear a tiny sound in deep sleep and wake up, but somehow, miraculously, can tune out Barney?) You've taught me to trust myself and in my convictions even though I thought there was no way I could ever possibly homeschool anyone. You've taught me a lot so far and I know I have a lot more to learn. I'm looking forward to riding the next years with you. Happy 12th birthday sweetheart! :grouphug:
  4. We'll be doing 7th grade this next school year. So far I've bought a ton of curriculum (I need a twelve step program for this as well :tongue_smilie:) and I don't have it all in front of me right now so let me see if I can remember off of the top of my head. Bible- CLE Bible 700 LA- LLATL Grammar- Winston Basic Spelling- Spelling Power Science- BJU Life Science texts and kit Spanish- Spanish Now, plus my own lessons that I make up based upon literature. History- MOH & Teaching History through Art Geography-Trail Guide to World Georgraphy & Geography through Art Math- CLE, Singapore NEM & LOF Music-piano I think I got them all (although I suspect there is more lurking that I bought earlier in the year and have forgotten about). :tongue_smilie: I really need to stop buying curriculum now!
  5. That's wonderful. Thank you. :) I had a little chuckle when you said the kids don't want to stop reading. My daughter is the same. I can't do LOF until we finish all the rest of our schooling or else she'll just want to stay there all day. hehehe :)
  6. Brindee, How do you like the Home Companion to LOF?? What does it have that the book doesn't?? Thanks for your reply. :)
  7. ooooh. I just found this from one of the books they were selling on Ebay. This is book 5 out of 6 books. The word problems look A LOT like the stuff that my daughter has been doing in Singapore 6B. http://img.inkfrog.com/click_enlarge1.php?image=460981.JPG&username=backintime14&aid=36177697
  8.:lol::lol: I'm right there with you. "Hi my name is Jennifer and I'm an addict." :D
  9. I was having a hard time finding a suit for my blossoming 12 y.o. tomorrow daughter and we went to Marshalls yesterday after having no luck anywhere else and came home with two very nice, modest and attractive 1 piece suits. Maybe you'll have some luck there?
  10. Oh Tracey I'm so sorry. :grouphug: I will pray for you all day today. I am going to Bible study today also and I'll lift you up there as well and you'll have a bunch of ladies praying for you. God bless you honey. :grouphug:
  11. Awesome!! I like that you chose the Hebrew form. :) My kids have Bible names too. :) Congratulations on your new daughter. :grouphug:
  12. Hi Kim. :) I can really appreciate where you are at right now. My dd is also going into the 7th grade and I am starting to try to channel her into more specific areas that may be possible career paths for her. For me, I just did a lot of reflecting on her behavior and natural bend. What are the things that she does naturally when she has free time. What things does she have a natural talent for? What things does she always seem to gravitate to and enjoy. With my dd, I noticed that she has always had a love of books. She's been reading since she was 3 years old and she even wrote some very simple books when she was 3. lol They all say things like, "mr. pig, mr. cat, mr. dog" but they are books just the same with illustrations and everything. She has a natural talent for drawing and in her free time she loves to play on the computer, write comic books and stories and draw pictures. I have started narrowing the field for her and will be getting her some computer software that she can do graphic arts with and animate her creations. I also give her a lot of encouragement to continue drawing and writing and even allow her time as part of her school to work on these things. She wrote a book this year (a real one this time hehe) and she also had done many drawings. So for us, I am going to just keep encouraging her in this direction and also try to introduce things into our school day to help her develop and hone those skills. :) This is what we are doing. I hope it is helpful to you. I wonder if your son would like to work in Agriculture or botany or even some type of biology? Does he enjoy science? I was always an outdoorsy kid too when I was young and I had dreams of being a marine biologist, but the math requirements were beyond my abilities so I never quite got there. :blushing:
  13. I'm starting to wonder if this is a common thing with this age. 11-12 yo's are so spacey. I think the fact that you can even get your kid to agree to make you some tea is pretty amazing!:tongue_smilie:;) :) hehe
  14. Cool name! :) Hadassah is the same as Esther right?
  15. :iagree::iagree: That's a beautiful song! :) That's why I LOVE praise songs, they nourish the soul like nothing else can. :) BEAUTIFUL!! Thanks so much for posting it up, Paula. :grouhug: Here's a couple I've been singing a lot today. Enjoy :)
  16. :grouphug: I'm so glad to hear it went well and that your prayers were answered. Please post back and let us know how it goes with the specialist. :)
  17. Does she lie really? Gee, I used to read them with my dd a few years ago. We got through at least the first 10 books in the series, but I don't remember her lying or doing anything else objectionable. Did I filter all this out somehow?
  18. Awww!! congratulations!! Enjoy your little princess! :)
  19. Thank you for the suggestions. Yes, she is young, I think that is part of the problem. She sees things very black and white. To her something is either right or wrong and she doesn't yet see how intricately complex some issues can be. I've told her that, but she still just adamantly believes what she believes. I'm going to do some research online with Wikipedia and others to see if I can find a general bio about these people you mentioned. Maybe I can start with that and save the more difficult matter for when she is older.
  20. Bill, would you say that this book would be useful for understanding and teaching the Secondary level as well? Is it a general method or is strictly for primary levels?? Thanks for your reply.:)
  21. Kids n' pets. It's available at Target in the cleaning aisle for around 4 dollars. http://kidsnpetsbrand.com/
  22. Oh my goodness that is just TOO CUTE!! hehehe So sweet. :)
  23. Oh that sounds great!! Thank so much for the suggestion. So do you think the Sunflower's content would be too mature for her? She will be 12 on Wednesday. Thank you, Stacy for your reply. :) I have tried to take this tack with her and explain to her the dangers of prejudice and that you have to take people on an individual basis. The problems is that because of her Asperger's and OCD she hyperfixates on things and cannot let them go. At this point in time it's the Nazis. That is why I posted up the question here, because everything I have been trying just isn't working. I talked to her again today and shared with her the things that people have been posting here. I asked her, "Do you see how ordinary German people were just as much a victim of Hitler as the Jews were?" She answered, "uh-huh" and then a few hours later today she starts again about how she hates Germans! UG! I"m praying for this issue. I am praying that God will work on her heart and get her off of this current fixation. I will read some books with her that have been suggested here as well and hopefully the emotional investment in the characters of the story will be enough to change her mind.
  24. Yes, that is what I was meaning. That the entire season be miraculously uneventful for everyone. Thank you for bringing up Haiti and Mexico. Mexico has suffered a great deal in the last few seasons. I'll never forget how Hurricane Wilma stalled over them as a category 4!! When we got Wilma here, she actually strengthened while over us (unheard of) to use my brother's words "she gave us quite a shellacking". I cannot even imagine what she did in Mexico. Poor people. I'm praying that all land will be safe and that no one will suffer this season. Even the tropical storms can be devastating in certain places as we learned with Haiti. :( Thank you all so much for all of your prayers. :grouphug: I"m looking forward to seeing how God will move this season. :)
