  1. I bought some cheap timeline from the educational store for my upstairs wall just to have a "line". My son is an artist so with each lesson we have, he has to draw something depicted in that lesson, write a brief description on the back with the date and hang it from the little clothespins directly above the official timeline. It's not as perfect as I would like but it works and b/c he has to make the picture each time, it's more personal and easier to remember and associate with that time period.
  2. Goodness, I forgot I have the book! lol Thank you for the reminder to look there. :) And thank you for the links! :)
  3. What exactly constitutes a literary study? Just reading a classic novel; or do you need a workbook or what? My son is a voracious reader but this year, legally he is required to have a literary course. What does that look like? Thank you!
  4. :iagree: It's easy enough to try an elimination diet. If you want another book recommendation, I'd highly suggest "Is this your child" by Doris Rapp. I saw my child in this book waaaaay back about 10 years ago. I watched her video about school allergies and I saw children turn from angels to the devil himself during allergy testing. It was horrifying. I know you deal with a lot of allergies and it's hard to think of pulling more foods but if you keep a food journal, I bet you'll find a trigger pretty quickly. And last but not least :grouphug:
  5. I sell Juice Plus, which is fruits and veggies in a capsule. :) It has really helped us a lot during DH's unemployment and I get to help people eat well in the process so it's a nice fit for me. :)
  6. Gluten was the trigger for my son's bed wetting. He hasn't wet since being GF. My good friend has a 13 year old bed wetter. She started a homeopathic remedy for it and she has stopped. As long as she takes one dose before bed, the child stays dry. Might be worth looking in to as homeopathy is pretty inexpensive...certainly cheaper than a new mattress every year. :)
  7. We loved it so much we finished it early this year. SOTW3 is fantastic, especially with the activity guide. :)
  8. My neighbor left her house while contractors were working and all her jewelry was stolen. Because there were several workers in the house during this period of time, she cannot pin it down to one person and the police have been unable to recovery her valuables. Not to be a debby-downer or anything but I wouldn't do it...too easy for someone to sneak something in their pocket that you won't think to look for until months later.
  9. We used to let our children watch freely. They stopped playing b/c all they wanted to do was sit in front of the tube. So now we limit but if that TV is on, there are two who will just sit and sit and sit for hours on end. One even gets headaches and does it anyway. We have to limit it for their own protection but yes, they DO gravitate to TVs anywhere that are on. I don't know if it's b/c we restrict it or b/c that's just the way they are since they were already like that, thus causing the restriction. Make sense?
  10. Our computer crashed recently and I had just bought an Ipad so figured it would work well enough. While it IS great and very portable, convenient, easy to use, etc, I am writing this response right now on my friend's laptop. If there are papers to be written and a lot of typing, a laptop will serve him best.
  11. That was my first thought too! Yay, now we can get these horribly outdated things cheap! :D
  12. The Out of Sync Child and The Out of Sync Child has Fun were the most helpful to me. :)
  13. A good friend of mine got rid of all her warts, and her children's warts, using high doses of minerals. Apparently theirs were caused by a mineral deficiency. It's worth trying!
  14. We've always had individual desks that almost-sorta worked sometimes. I recently bought a large table and it's been heavenly. They store their stuff at their own table and if the large table gets crowded, they scootch over to their own desks. They tend to rotate around the large table so we rarely run out of room at the big table. When two kids are there, the third will go work on the computer so it's been a real boone to our homeschool!
  15. I picked one up at Staples last week. It's slightly smaller than a 2x3 but it holds all the letters for AAS perfectly...if that's what you're looking for. :)
  16. This is how we handle it...when wrong information is given, the kids know to just ask me later and I give the correct information then. We've gotten to the point that now, when said person starts their "preachy, I know everything" mode, we just look at each other, smile and wait it out if we can. This keeps us from getting too serious and letting the person change our moods. We love said person but when that starts, we just listen as long as we can, then find other things to do. We have discussions about how sometimes people just can't see truth, no matter how much you share it and not to take it personally. It's hard when you love someone and they make themselves so ornery but I think we can still tolerate them, although not necessarily respect them as an authority on anything. Hope that helps. It's tough to be in that situation! :grouphug:
  17. Just saw this and was praying through the whole thread. Relieved to see he is found! :grouphug::grouphug:
  18. I did not know that; thank you for letting me know. Yes, they do. :) They have a "block" list and an "allow" list.
  19. I recently installed the K9 program...it works GREAT! You can block out time you can't use the internet, in addition to not allowing access to certain sites. I know it works b/c sometimes I forget the hours I'm allowed on and it will block me or cut me off mid-time-wasting. ;)
  20. Same here...only then my son STARTS his morning by giving me a detailed report of the book he read the night before at bedtime. :smash: Ok, that's just an awesome phrase for the situation....talker stalker. Asta, thank you for all the links. You've helped me see things from my son's perspective and I am grateful!
