  1. Maybe you could set up a separate email account and post a sign at Krogers saying "Gift cards found" with the email contact info. On the sign, ask the person responding to list the details like the day the cards were lost, what they were in, the number of cards and amounts.
  2. People always selects the most generic men for that "honor." I would be floored if they ever have a man on the cover that I actually thought was sexy.
  3. You can password protect the browser, apps, and purchase power on the Kindle Fire.
  4. I'm addicted to Costco. If you think you will be shopping there a lot, get the Executive Membership.
  5. My 6 y.o. son has been taking piano for over a year and will continue at least until the end of elementary. He is a little trumpet crazy at the moment and has already told me that when he is in middle school he is going to switch. I've been thinking of renting a trumpet for Xmas and signing him up for a few months of intro lessons as a gift/trial. Do any of you have a child that takes trumpet or cornet? How old was he or she when they started lessons? If you have a kid learning two instruments, how do you plan practice sessions? Thanks in advance.
  6. I really like The Economist but anytime I subscribe I just end up feeling like a failure. It is very dense and I can never keep up with it week to week. I just signed up for Smithsonian and I'm thinking about Nat. Geo. I also get O, People, and Entertainment Weekly.
  7. I asked my doctor to put me into a medically induced coma and wake me up the following Friday but she refused. I made the right choice, checked the state's website and my ballot was received. I plan on avoiding all coverage on Election Night.
  8. My 6 year old got one last Xmas from his grandparents.
  9. Yamaha sells a decent quality (stays in tune/good sound) guitar that comes in 3/4 size. You should check music stores that sell used gear.
  10. My 6 year old has been taking lessons for about 1.5 years. I didn't make him practice at all the first 4-5 months. Once his first recital came up we started practicing about 10-15 minutes at least 5-6 times per week. His lessons were 1/2 hour each back then. His teacher said he has a good ear and plays really well as do most of the other piano playing adults who have heard him. Since school started, I've bumped his lessons up to 1 hour per week with a new teacher and he practices everyday (except lesson day) for 20-30 mins. I try to get his lessons accomplished before school or in the morning on the weekends. I don't play piano but my husband does and so does his uncle who studied composition in school and usually practices with him on Sundays. How intense is your daughter's dance class? Maybe you could do a longer lesson weekly and then see how she feels about it in three months.
  11. Why isn't the Island of Sodor covered in smog? Why hasn't Sir Toppam Hat been fired for incompetence? Can the drivers control the trains or not? Why haven't those reckless trains been scrapped already? Do the taxpayers know that steam engines are being sent all over the Island to pick up single objects or give one person a tour? Why won't Farmer McCool hire some farmhands instead of expecting trains to do all his work? Thomas once tried to send Neville to his death based on a rumor, why was this just brushed off?
  12. My husband and I innocently walked into a Costco one day and walked out with a Blendtec. It's been three years and I don't have any complaints. I've seen people demo-ing the Vitamix and it seems pretty darn similar.
  13. I used "Pronounce It Perfectly in French." It's a series of CDs and a booklet. It helped me when I was first learning the language.
  14. I got mine in the mail yesterday. It is my 4th Kindle. I'm just getting the hang of the new features but I do like that it is backlit because I love to read in bed and clipping a light onto my old one was tiresome.
  15. Thanks for the responses. I think I'll upgrade the iPad version and maybe upgrade to Xbox later.
  16. My 6 year old started private piano lessons at 5 but could have easily started at 4. My 3 year is in a preschool Suzuki class right now and just doesn't have the attention span for it yet.
  17. Call the administrative/marketing branch of local department store and see if you can find out which agencies they use to hire models. Once you have the list, call each of them to see when their open call hours are. Ask if they have height & figure requirements as far as her measurements go. Take photographs of your daughter with her hair pulled back and no makeup. There should be a full face image, one of each profile, a smiling photo and a serious pose all in color. You should also have a few full body shots with her wearing something form fitting but not too revealing (leggings and a tank top for example.) Go to at least 4-5 agencies and see what they say. Each agency might have a different focus so being rejected at one doesn't necessarily mean that she can't do it. A good agency rep will be blunt with you. You have to know how you child will react to rejection, criticism, or too many compliments. The rep may hand you a list of photographers to take professional head shots or they may take photos themselves. The price here can vary quite a bit and it's not a guarantee of representation. Check out youtube, I'm sure there are lots of videos with posing/walking tips. Also, NEVER ever let a minor child go to a photographer or go-see alone.
  18. Are all of you using it on iPad or on your computer. I downloaded the "lite" version for my son but he's having difficulty with the controls. Is the computer version (or full paid app version) better?
  19. No weight gain but after nearly a year of being period free, my cycle suddenly came back and lasted for three months straight before I had it removed.
  20. My husband and I really liked "Away We Go" with John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. It's a quiet little movie but we found it very sweet (although parts of it were quite sad.)
  21. I think the first one pushed through at 4 months, he had 8 by 8 mos. old and the first ones started falling out at 4 years old.
  22. We used it for a year. My son liked it at first but then got bored with it. In the end, even I thought it was overly repetitive and dull.
  23. I tried a Tom's of Maine Lavender scented deodorant once. The first day was fine but two days later the skin under my arms started peeling off in huge strips. It was quite alarming but of course YMMV.
