The kid is responsible, not the driver.

Reading the "adult" parts of the Bible to young children
Prudent replied to kmacnchs's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We just skip certain stories for now, and never thought we were censoring the Bible for our kids. The Bible is a big book, there is still tons of great content skipping a few choice sections. -
Quick, help! My daughter is making banana bread,
Prudent replied to Caitilin's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If it were me, I'd make the 8 loaves of bread. But I'd see what I could do to make some variations. If you haven't mixed it all together yet,you can make a loaf of applesauce bread, a loaf of zucchini bread, etc. Use what you have to make a variety of loaves. -
How old is too old for another baby?
Prudent replied to KellyinAr's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If you are in good health, I don't think 42 is too old to physically have a baby. The bigger question (to me) is will you have the stamina and motivation to be parenting and homeschooling a kid through your 50s? -
DH had a V with my complete agreement and support, and neither one of us for a minute regretted the decision at all. Nevertheless, it is sort of like going through menopause for the wife. There is a natural grieving process when you know you'll never have to count days on the calendar and nervously buy an HPT. You do mourn never feeling another baby kick or hiccup in your womb. Fertility is a HUGE part of a woman's live from her first period until her last. I did feel deep sadness before, during, and after my husband's surgery. I don't think we made a mistake. I know our family is complete. I had peace about our decision, but I still had to grieve knowing this womb will never hold life again. I realized a lot of times when I get those baby feelings, it's not that I want another baby. I just wish my children were newborns again. I really don't want another baby, I just wish my babies hadn't gotten so big!

What did you do that was good for you today?
Prudent replied to TammyinTN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm about to leave for my annual gynecological exam. :ack2: -
:grouphug: I'm sorry. I think pregnancy is two semesters, not 3 trimesters. First semester is conception to 37 weeks. Second semester is 37 weeks to devliery. Second semester is the longest one. I know the agony of going past due dates. Here's hoping you go into labor tonight and have a speedy delivery :)

How does your church get nursery help?
Prudent replied to Alison in KY's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We go to a large church, and in order to put your child in nursery you are assigned 6 Sundays a year to volunteer. The volunteering is 6 services per year per family, not per child. They also have a ratio of adults to babies per age group (1yos, 2yos, etc) and stop accepting babies if a certain class has reached the maximum. I think they use daycare regulations to come up with their ratios. -
Non-Standard degree. Are these ridiculous?
Prudent replied to Ginevra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think the only time degrees from those places are worth the effort is for working adults who need to quickly finish their degree in order to advance in their career/get a promotion. I would definitely not recommend a for-profit online program to a high school graduate. -
As a buyer, Amazon is actually much much safer than ebay. If you have a problem with an Amazon seller, and they will not refund you, you can file an A-Z claim with Amazon and they will refund you very quickly. It's a much easier process than dealing with Paypal. As much as I love ebay for lots of stuff, to me Amazon is the hands down winner for used book purchases. BTW, Amazon owns Abebooks and has the same 30 day return policy. All Amazon sellers must accept returns postmarked within 30 days for ANY reason.

I second what Asta said about looking up recent sales in your city or county's assessors office (online). Current listings are not helpful. Most people are asking way more than buyers are willing to pay right now, and if you price similar to what others are asking, you'll be just like them - stuck in your house. If you price your house at what people are actually paying, it will sell quickly. Despite all the stories you hear about people being unable to sell their house for two years, there are people selling their home in mere weeks.

Open Letter to My Dearest Children
Prudent replied to Snickerdoodle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My 3 year old 'forgets' all the time too. No matter what time of day it is, she always says, "But Mommy, I didn't want to wake anybody up!" -
Where did you attend college/university?
Prudent replied to Granny_Weatherwax's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Wayne State University for both BA (2002) & MBA (2003). I didn't realize I was a youngster on this board. Some of you graduated college when I was in kindergarten. :tongue_smilie: -
I haven't but both my father and husband have. My father reduced his sugar intake (it was something that needed to be done anyway!), but what really did it for my dad & hubby was just diligent oral hygiene. Flossing, rinsing and brushing twice a day is a minimum. Frequent disposal of toothbrushes (or boiling them) prevents re-introduction of new bacteria. Frequent dental cleanings helps (every 3 months). The gums usually can heal themselves without surgery, but it's a slow process.

So, there is very little in the house to eat ...
Prudent replied to Luanne's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Baked oatmeal is one of our favorite meals around here. Even for dinner. It tastes more custardy and yummy than stovetop oatmeal! http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Baked-Oatmeal-II/Detail.aspx I throw in whatever fruit I have, diced apples, pears, raisins, etc. -
Help needed - large party, tight food budget!!

What about deviled eggs? They're cheap, can be made ahead, and well-liked. -
Is this just a southern thing??
Prudent replied to runninmommy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
It's happened to me a few times, and I'm in Michigan. I don't think it's a southern thing only. Our church used to do that too, but stopped a few years back. I find it annoying because when it has happened to me it's been after I've visited a friend's church for an event. I'm not looking for a church, and don't need to be converted. It's a waste of time for someone to come and visit me (unannounced, of course). -
How do y'all handle the humidity...

I take a 2nd shower mid-day. Wet hair keeps me cool :001_smile: -
Any special plans for your child's "first day" of kindergarten?
Prudent replied to iteachmine's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Great ideas! My oldest turns 3 tomorrow and is begging to go to school. She is very tall and everywhere we go during the day she gets asked, "Why aren't you in school??" She is convinced Homeschooling is something I've made up to prevent her from having fun :tongue_smilie:
