  1. I know that Abeka math is a pretty good math program for basics in the early years. My dd is approaching 4th grade, and I'd like to supplement Abeka math with something new over the summer and into fourth grade. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance :001_smile:
  2. I purchased a used set of the right start card math games. Once I got home I realized that each deck did not have game directions. Can someone explain how to use these cards? I am currently intersted in working with my daughter on her basic addition and subtraction facts. Thanks in advance!
  3. Unfortunately, my dd6 may have to go to a private school in the fall. The school uses the Abeka curriculum. We have been using Saxon 2, but I want to teach her the remaining facts or begin again the Abeka way so that her transition to 2nd grade math will be a little easier. I have the Arithmetic 1 book and have been using the tests as a guide where to start working with her in this particular program. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!:)
  4. I just rented the movie this past Friday night... I could not get into it AT ALL.. I may have watched all of 15 min max.. That movie wasn't for me!
  5. My dd16 is currently taking Precalc II at the local CC. She is a junior. The CC offer both applied calculus and calculus with analytical geometry 1 for the spring semester. Any thoughts on which course she should take next. We will talk with her counselor sometime this week, but i'd like to get a little insight from the hive, especially if you/spouse are an engineer or have an engineering student. ;) Thanks! :bigear:
  6. For those of you who have been there and done that, please tell me what I need to do to register my dd this year as a homeschooler. She is begining her junior year next week taking some CC classes. I have looked at the sight but if you have any specific info that you found along the way, please share. She is interested in D1/D2 basketball..gpa/SAT are great.. Thanks
  7. I have a dd16, who does not regularly have set chores to do. When she was younger she had a chore chart, and pretty much complied. As she got into her teens, and with the rat race of homeschool, sports, activities, and teenage drama (), everything has gotten off track.I just want to get her back on a routine. Whatever I ask her to do each day, she will do. Now, I just want to give her specific chores, without having to hound her every day. She is an excellent student and athlete and keeps a busy schedule. What types of chores are your 16 ish teen responsible for? Do they keep the same chores or rotate? Please share your experiences. Thanks!
  8. Sally Clarkson and her husband also co wrote Educating the Whole Hearted Child. I am a HUGE fan of Sally Clarkson.:hurray::hurray: I have read the formentioned books and I have others on my shelf. I have also seen her speak at an Apologia conference. She is a wonderful role model. I believe she also has talks on You tube. So check her out there. HTH!
  9. I'm not sure why, but I haven't found a program/method that I am totally happy with for my soon to be first grader dd5.11. For K4 we used a BOZ character workbook. She liked it but I didn't feel it was enough. For K we have been using a combination of Leading Little Hearts to God (I love this book), Rod and Staff Bible Stories book & coloring book, along with Betty Lukens felt. I definitely want more verse memorization. She is a crafty girl, so implementing that would be helpful, and keep her focused. Any reccomendations or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  10. I want to be sure to incorporate biographies in 1st grade..Can you please share your favorite people and author/series for this level.. Any other ideas or suggestions on this topic are more than welcome. Thanks
  11. Abeka worked for both of my girls 16 & 5. My oldest used in private school back then, and I have used it with my 5 yr old who is reading very well. I tweaked the program to what was needed for 5dd. The Reading Handbook is wonderful. I have occasionally supplemented with OPGTR and a few other things here and there, to give a little variety. I don't have any experience with VP but I give Abeka phonics an applause.:hurray:
  12. I am looking for an online service to deliver flowers for Mother's Day. I am not familiar with the florists in the area that I will be sending to, so I'd like to get recommendations. Any suggestions would be helpful! :D
  13. DD5 is moving along in Saxon 1 math. I like the program except it seems soooooo slow at times that i have to combine lesson etc. DD fully understands the concepts of adding & subtraction. However, I am not very fond of how they teach some of the facts, ie, when adding two to an odd number, the answer is the next odd number, and the same for even numbers. Dd is doing ok but its going slow..i like the way abeka taught my older dd using fact families ie; three family- 0+3=3 1+2=3 2+1=3 3+0=3 that being said, i'd like to see how others are successfully teaching facts before we get too deep, just in case i decide to change. I think it is important not only to know them, but know them quickly. Please share.
  14. Another plug for Virgin Mobile! My DD16 has had one for 2 yrs and she is very pleased. She even upgraded her phone last Christmas when she had a little extra money.:D
  15. DD has taken the SAT since the one for JH, and is planning on taking it one more time(maybe during the latter part of jr yr). She is planning to take the PSAT in October as well. Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions.:D
