  1. When I bake a lot I find I can usually half the sugar without anyone noticing. I like granulated honey for white sugar and sucanaut for brown. Overall I agree the best plan is to reduce, not replace. I've been very low sugar for about 5 months and my taste buds are VERY different now. I can't eat corn - it's grossly sweet to me now. My "sweet" is fruit and Dannon no artificial sweeteners yogurt. Its VERY satisfying and sweet.
  2. I know it's not low carb - and he's tried it with success but the new WW program is awesome. Check out the WhysAdvice podcast by FatDag. I'd recommend you listen to the episode with his story first (he's an air force guy so as a man he might resonate with your son). I think its in the 50s. If you do join ww - check out hashtags for men on Connect. There are some great ones with men encouraging other men. It's great. I think he might be able to connect emotionally with men losing weight - and WW really is a livable program.
  3. I'm easing into it and its growing on me. (I commented before - I've been doing ww since this summer and have lost 47.4 pounds.) I'm being mindful of portion size and careful with tracking. I'm also careful about eating whole foods and limiting processed anything. Processed foods EAT points and I'm cheap with points, lol. I specifically limited sugar when I started, and won't eat artificially sweetened things, and my sweet tooth is WAY WAY better. My favorite treat now is overnight oats - unsweetened yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, old fashioned oats, and blueberries. Yum. Yum. Yum. I really think the program will work well. Theoretically I could eat tons of corn and gain, but the zero point foods aren't ones of binge on - or want to. I can't even eat corn now - it's grossly sweet to me. I think the system really encourages you to eat whole, unprocessed, fiber and protein rich foods. Then they give you points to manage and limit the rest. I think it's smart and maintainable. And - Connect is amazing. The online support of others is just priceless. Its like Instagram - but encouraging, kind, and helpful. Its a total game changer. Anyone on the fence - try it!!
  4. My son is taking an outsourced lab that, IMHO, is simple. He needs the social outlet and he is learning something. So if he gets an A, and his work at home is bad, he won't get an A. The lab is part, not all of the grade.
  5. I think you need to find a way where you are a cheerleader - not the coach, food police, or bad guy. As others have suggested - maybe a therapist, doctor, nutritionist, etc under dad's supervision. You can't make him lose weight - or want to. You just can't. He has to want to do it. I know because I've been the overweight one. WW works because I work it and i want to. I think it is an addiction and I'd approach it as one.
  6. Rollick It's team charades. Hilarious!!!
  7. I'm doing ww and I think it's pretty similar. I plan, plan, plan. I take food with me in a cooler (veg - fruit - meat - etc). I plan stops for salad - burrito bowls - etc. I'm very picky about what I eat - for me, my health, my mood. I dont compromise anymore.
  8. Spray really, really well. Oh my. I've had some stick and it was so bad we threw out the pan.
  9. I just want to throw in that when I researched Bluefield and checked for equivalency transfer, they weren't accepted (I looked at GA Tech for a benchmark). I know they're accredited, but for basic like comp 1, I don't want my kids to have to repeat it. Other stuff, I want them to repeat later. If you are hoping to trader credits, definitely check on if they're accepted.
  10. To rid the junk: * Food pantry (and before everyone goes nuts... I've worked in good pantries and "treats" were rare and welcomed) * take to a party * donate to church youth * send a college kid a care package * send troops a care package
  11. I would normally agree, but heard a presentation from a top school and they said they put more weight in the grade that the test. They said they understood bad days and high stakes testing, and were more impressed with a student's trends and long term performance.
  12. 1. Do you consider yourself fashionable or care about fashion? How much do you allow maybe per year for clothes, shoes, and accessories for yourself? Do you consider beauty products as part of your clothes budget? No idea what I spend. I am not super spendy, but I've lost a lot of weight and basically needed a new wardrobe (YAY ME!!). I shopped Old Navy 50% on Black Friday, and usually shop Target, etc. I do get a Stitch Fix about once a quarter. I am conscientiously improving in my fashion sense. Get Your Pretty On helped me a ton, and sparked an interest in not looking like a slob all the time. I just feel better when I am a little pulled together. My current go-to is jeggings, trendy slide on sneakers/birks/boots, and a nicer top/sweater, maybe some bling. Nothing crazy, but not leggings and a Hogwarts t-shirt. 2. How much do you budget for your kids? Boy - $50/year. Maybe. Seriously. He never changes. Four pairs of shorts a year, a few t shirts, a church uniform (not really - but he wears the same thing EVERY week. LOL!!) Girl - super cool, on point, but fussy. She's very low maintenance. We buy as needed. 3. How much is budgeted for your husband? Like, nothing. Uniform for work. Casual otherwise. Gym clothes. A few church/business casual outfits. He's been the same size since we met, so he doesn't need much. He's also very low maintenance. 1. Do you consider yourself fashionable or care about fashion? 13. We still have to wait until tomorrow 😲
  14. I like local stuff, so I'd see if there are any local toasters near you.
  15. A great quote I read when I started WW was, "It's easier to say no once, at the grocery store, than every time I open the pantry door." It's so true for me. Some things, I just don't buy them. Others, I can do single serve. Other stuff, I'm fine with it in the house. My kids know I'm getting healthy, and they're great about it. They still get a treat, but it's now really a treat, not a habit. I think we're all healthier for it!
  16. No, she did half that with Landry.... then Frau Cruz after the Landry... She kind ofhates German, but prefers OSU over the live classes. We do have a native German speaking grandmother, so that helps.
  17. OH MY WORD. What a nut that lady was to stay with him!!! I love Criminal.... Serial.... Sworn... Up and Vanished was excellent.
  18. Being actively involved in a food pantry changed my attitude about hunger, specifically with the elderly. With all the programs available, the elderly use very few and some are profoundly struggling. I still remain very strong in my political convictions about how to fix the problem, but my heart was changed to the severity of the problem.
  19. DD here is wrapping up German 2 and, as much as is possible for her, enjoying it. Lol. I'd recommend it.
  20. Extremely unlikely he'll get anywhere before Christmas day. He'd be on the bottom of the non revenue standby list (which is below the bottom of the revenue passenger standby list). And, buddy passes are pretty expensive. I'd buy a standby ticket at the very least.
  21. These are awesome! I usually double the ginger.
