  1. same here. i still use google, but i did pre-site change anyway as it got me better results. but google search doesn't work. examples: acellus site:forums.welltrainedmind.com i get 3 posts. there are NOT only 3 posts that mention acellus pah aphug site:forums.welltrainedmind.com i get 2 posts. not even one i penned a year ago IS google search not working as your pages are not indexed? will this get fixed?
  2. my ds is finishing up pre-calc now (through WHA). he has a solid A. final exam tomorrow. what with 4 aps and this final, he hasn't started official sat math prep. he will start it tomorrow afternoon. test is in 10 days. is that enough time?
  3. I'd search but even Google search doesn't work well anymore since the new site. I feel like I'm ambling around blindly these days... (if I'm missing something, do clue me in) Anyway, as I'm sure there are dozens of threads about this - can't find 'em... How easy/hard is the Math 2 SAT subject test? This is coming off Pre-calc... what did you dc do to study? How did the do?
  4. Still not working? I was wondering...
  5. Does search still not work? Google search also barely works anymore, bears little fruit. I used to spend hours researching everything under the sun and now there's little indexed for me to search. I hate that I can't search all the old threads. Will this ever be fixed? I find myself on WTM much less b/c it is so cumbersome to find anything! That and I get signed out all the time - and then when signing in, I'm kicked to the WTM start page and more often than not, I just decide it's not worth posting anyway. Frustrating!
  6. Love to hear more about acellus, Satellite. You know we're California-based too, so looking for A-Gs. We need an online get er done World/European History next year, but will likely NOT go AP - as he has 3-4 other APs next year. Which courses do you specifically have experience with (or know someone who has)? How do Acellus classes work? Please do share more - thank you!
  7. Anyone taken this new course? I see PAH offers it, and it sounds pretty good. Anyone with experience with AP CSP? (I'd search but since the migration, I can't even make Google search work anymore! Shame as I used to search/research all the time. Ugh!)
  8. we started for 1 week with Intro and then my ds wanted to jump into AP in 9th grade, so we did. great decision! he had limited coding experience and scored a 4 on the exam with minimal effort. we started really late too (november). i'd say it's an easy 1st AP for a younger (especially mathy or interested) student.
  9. is there a good way to prep for the SAT essay by the way? we are just beginning our SAT/ACT journey...
  10. oh dear. we may have to re-think edhesive ap stats... please keep me posted how the score comes in... can't wait until july - too long to wait!
  11. same here... ap micro tomorrow. 3 down, 1 to go.
  12. edhesive is fantastic. we used them last year for AP Comp Sci A. we didn't start until late november, and you work at your own pace. if you start when they start in aug/sept (whenever), they only unlock that week at a time. we had many weeks unlocked as we started so late, but that's how it works. you work at your own time, though. kid scored a 4 on the AP exam - and this having really not studied too terribly lot (unlike this year, where he gets the AP exams better and understands now how little he studied last year). so a 4 is saying a lot for the course. we plan to take AP Stats with them next year too.
  13. only wtm'er i've ever seen use waskolit is tarynb. search doesn't work (even on google!) so i can't find anything! she raved about it and i love their custmer service having used writeathome's writing counterpart. we plan to try it. maybe try pm'ing her...
  14. we loved Roy Speed's classes! will do those with multiple dc in future for sure. do look into waskolit. their customer service is top-notch as we've taken their writing/writeathome classes last 2 years. great refund policy. while we haven't tried their lit - i've seen some sound kudos for them on these boards. we will opt for those next go-around. similar in scope but weekly meetings, much like roy speed shakespeare. i think 4x discussion on a book better than a single 2 hour centerforlit discussion. http://www.waskolit.com/
  15. Discussion only here. Currently in Brit Lit. We are not fans and I would never recommend it. Too little structure for my kid, too little accountability in a once a month discussion. We've found it to be a waste of money. I will try WaskoLit next kid - once a week discussions, and from what I hear, same good quality lit discussions. Just my 2c.
  16. What are your thoughts for a good first AP, possibly for a 9th grader? My older ds (10th) has taken 6 APs but none I feel fit the bill for my dd for an 'easier/manageable" first AP. Different strokes for different folks and all that... Here's our experiences: AP Comp Sci (Edhesive) - good first AP but for a mathier, number loving sort (not my dd) AP HumanGeo (PAH) - bad experience with PAH so did not prepare well. skittish to tackle the subject again AP US Govt (Thinkwell) - we'll see how we fare. i think fairly straightforward. but test changing next year AP Chem (PAH) - not a good first AP. great class but super rigorous. awesome for the right student AP Macro (PAH) - ds thinks this one could fit the bill, but i think maybe a little too mathy for my 9th grader (maybe in 10th) AP Micro (PAH) - would time with macro later on... so your thoughts and suggestions, PLEASE???? ?
  17. 1 down, 3 to go. ? yes, we too look forward to hearing how well edhesive ap stats prepared your son for the ap exam. as well as ap comp sci?
  18. i'd say 1-2 hours per day. since there's no live class, that's all inclusive. he rarely did work on weekends unless there were labs, tests to study for or sometimes he'd take his tests on sunday (all work due each monday). mr. m is an amazingly caring teacher! we really enjoyed it. my ds will say it was hard work but he learned a ton and went in feeling confident to the ap exam today
  19. i just think he's changing it up for next year. not sure specifics. you should ask him about the lab kit. probably same kit, but i think he's just changing how/when/how often for labs. he mentioned it briefly. not sure how much we used in the kit, how much was consumable - but maybe if it's largely intact, i could sell it to you. let me know if i should ask my ds how much was consumed.
  20. we're on our way to the AP exam now.... fantastic class! one of the best. i concur, no busywork. very well laid out. despite being fully asynchronous. questions were handled very quickly when ds got stuck. labs he is changing for next year - but ample time to do it, kit had plenty of supplies to manage. week looked like this: read chapter in book/extensive outline prepared by Mr. M; watch 1/2 dozen associated videos, from 10min to 30min; do 1-3 exercises that works out problems and really cements what is learned; then a weekly quiz or test (tests are actual ap questions/frqs so these types of questions are tackled the entire year). it's math-heavy fwiw. fantastic class! for my mathier kids, i will certainly go for it again.
  21. rootann, we're finishing PAH chemadvantage now. FANTASTIC class! amazing how well it s run and how much your dc learn, despite no live class. we're not lways a huge fan of asynchronous but tried it anyway. i highly recommend it! (not that you asked, but since we chat often, thought you'd like to know ? )
  22. How hard is DO Hon Physics for a strong math student (11th grade) with concurrent AP Calc? Workload? Time?
  23. 4 exams here this year. Chem / Govt / Macro / Micro he seems better prepared than last year (10th grade this year). here's hoping! lots of studying going on here - crunch time!
  24. Rootann - I erased a couple PMs... Thanks for all the tips! Anyone with any experience with any of the online prep courses? I'm wondering if a course would give lots of bang for the buck. We feel very strongly that we need to get tippy-top scores, and that my ds is capable, but will need prep to get there. Does anyone know of any online prep they can recommend/or not recommend? Or is Khan Academy/various prep books sufficient prep?
  25. Anyone with best SAT prep ideas that worked for them? Or point me in the direction of past threads... I only see PSAT/AP prep in the stickies, not seeing gool old-fashioned SAT prep.
