  1. question - a bit off-topic, sorry. but search even in google is not finding me what i was looking for. my ds's ap coordinator at local private school gave him this homeschool code for CA: 990599 (the printed out slip she gave him clearly indicated that). i remember a previous year's thread about 990599 and 990598. does it matter if he put the 599 one? and can anyone find that past thread that talked about the change in CA homeschool codes? help!
  2. Rising junior and it's time for SAT Prep. He will be taking the PSAT and SAT in the Fall (Oct/Nov). He's been scoring well on PSAT (1400 last time), so could be in running for NMSF. We have all summer to prep. What should we do? Please advise! Love to get a super strong score first go-around for SAT in the fall. Thanks!
  3. my son took AP CS-A in 9th with no prior knowledge. he got a 4 and admittedly was not as proficient an AP tester as could be last year. highly recommend the course, it's why we're opting for edhesive's stats. we too are CA and UCLA is also a reach we're going for. bus economics too. have you taken AP Macro & Micro yet? AP Macro at PAH is amazing - my son's favorite course this year. as for a-g - we're going that route too. remember you can meet a-g status with sat II or ap tests. that's our plan. that's why we're planning on DO physics and subsequent SAT II. great feedback on the course, and also aligns well with SAT II material.
  4. hi! yep, you keep the book and ferry it back and forth. let the proctor/school know ahead of time if possible so there's no confusion. happy testing!
  5. well then let's hope for our sake that we homeschoolers can find a bit more success!
  6. is this a fellow homeschooler or b&m student, roadrunner?
  7. fascinating to see a student on these boards.. my son will be a junior next year too. my first thought is that 6 AP classes at a time is a lot. i've only ever seen people attempt that on college confidential boards. i've seen some b&m students with upwards of 5 APs in junior year. but even that seems a bit over the top... as for reviews/thoughts - we're also on an AP heavy schedule (but not that heavy). 2 in 9th; 4 in 10th; 3 in 11th... we're signed up for 3 next year. AP Lang (PAH - Walker) - i hear good things. 1x weekly live meeting. but not as much workload as other options AP Calc A/B (Wilson Hill) - we use DO for some sciences and like it a lot. AP Stats (Edhesive) - we had a great experience with edhesive for CS-A - so i'd go with CS-A w/ edhesive. highly recommend. Physics - we thought of adding AP Physics 1 too but I wonder about that workload, so we were thinking of opting for DO Hon Physics and taking SAT II following what makes you want to take all APs? what has your AP experience been like for 9th/10th to prepare you? as for scheduling, it's important to weigh live meeting times and workload/reading requirements. can yuo handle all that> do you have time-consuming ECs or part-time job or volunteering to consider?
  8. Yay yvonne!!! Very excited for you! And the first Board UC acceptances, I think!
  9. it seems score CANCELLATION is before you even know the score yourself. it seems meryl knew her boys' scores before she requested removal. so i don't think it was score cancellation. WITHHOLDING would still affect your AP Scholar status... so i don't think she did score withholding either. is there a 3rd option? my ds is retaking an AP this year (got a 3 last year) and if he scores better, would love it scrubbed from the official record for AP Scholar purposes...
  10. i know this has been shown before and i could search, but others following this thread may be interested. Can you tell us how to remove an AP score from your record?
  11. thank you yvonne for your advice. i agree with you, and will take your advice to heart next year :)
  12. I know this belongs on the Classifieds board but I can't get it working! Anyway I have for sale used copies of both books needed for Susan Richman's APUSH class (we decided last minute to switch to a non-AP USH class) If you want to buy them from me.... I would take $35 ppd for them. They are in good, used condition. PM me for more details. Making America: A History of the United States 5th edition by Berkin, Carol, Miller, Christopher, Cherny, Robert, Gormly, (2007) Hardcover (Volume 1 & 2) The Insider's Complete Guide to AP US History: The Essential Content Krieger, Larry
  13. yvonne - a bit off topic~ish... since you live in my neck of the woods, what california schools did you visit? and you think visiting during junior year during class is the most ideal?
  14. ok he's taking a practice test now, cold, as may sat sign-ups are today. so we'll see what we see. thanks for assistance!
  15. rbk - how much extra prep do you recall it took? i don't want to overtax my ds as he has 4 APs - but seems like if he's prepared for AP Chem then 2 days earlier he can take SAT Chem. just depends how much extra additional prep is required?
  16. thanks! anybody else? also wondering whether to choose May date (2 days before AP) or in June (but ds is taking 2 other SATs already)?
  17. we chose Kathryn Walker, after reading reviews here, thinking it will be the best fit for my son (this is after thinking for last year we'd go with Maya Inspektor). I don't think she is full, is she
  18. Who has taken the SAT II Chem after taking AP Chem that year? I've read this particular SAT is brutal... how is it for those that are taking AP Chem (specifically Chemadvantage)? How much extra prep is required? Do you take the May SAT date (same as AP exam) or wait until June SAT date? TIA!
  19. yes frustrating and ridiculous. if only we didn't care, but we'd like to keep our UC options open as they are good schools, and our state's flagship unis - cost-effective, etc. (why can't we be in any other state where your flagship is like the U of Florida or U of Alabama or U of Arizona without these ridiculous hoops. it's the kind of hoops you expect to find with tippy-tippy tippy top selective schools) *roll eyes* my take - we'll continue plugging along, meeting whatever a-g we can with sat II tests/AP exams/or DE classes. not all will therefore be checked. but from what's quoted above, as a PSA filer, i AM my own 'school' and so as my own school, i am providing the teacher to teach the online publisher course and i, as the school, am incorporating the course into our course catalog and i, as the school, am the diploma granter. that will be my interpretation, for better or worse. and besides when you submit the UC app online, it doesn't specify anyway for homeschooler to show a-g classes - it does not populate the drop-down so relies on self-reporting anyway. others have done it. i'll remain hopeful.
  20. i for one would love to know. i'm all about being transparent. i read reviews here on the boards and they mean a lot to me when choosing classes, but of cousse know everyone's experiences may vary and do weigh those. when i love a class, i'll shout it from the rooftops and when i don't, the same. i feel it's other homeschooling family's right to know if i found something i didn't like. in the interest of full transparency. after all, these classes aren't free. it's like amazon reviews - do you buy something more highly rated? yes. but still make the purchase despite some bad reviews? sure. it's called full disclosure.
  21. hmm, resounding recommendation. i think we may have to try again with dc #2 as we quit early on with ds#1... and i've always felt he needed to learn more lit analysis skills... thanks for the insight!
  22. we like WAH for what it is. essays/writings assigned, multiple revisions completed, extensive feedback (depending on who your coach is, but you can change). we used them for 9th & 10th (hs semester and then essay worksops 1&2, lit analysis workshop). imo, it doesn't teach the hows - but rather helps perfect what you already know. i mean, some will say the feedback in and of itself, teaches them... maybe so. for my next, we plan to do writing at home for 9th to teach more concepts, solidify the how-to write (IEW Continuation Course C), then use WAH for 10th grade. wonderful customer service and very generous refund policy.
