  1. LOL! so true. i am teaching AP Hug myself to my 9th grader this year using mjbucks' syllabus. i have high hopes! but it uses yet another text (though i got it super cheap used). so if i can't sell it {(amazon will buy it back for $102)) we may just use it as a supplement this year.
  2. Who needs this book? I just realized how much I paid for this rental I chose to buy-out and was shocked ($184)! I must have had temporary insanity! Time to sell it. Make me an offer.Amazon Link
  3. Wow, wow, wow! Thank you Garga! I hesitated to post knowing it had been asked countless times but I can't make search work. I'm so glad to have all your notes. Thank you! We may well look into Prepscholar too... after all THIS is the single most important test of his life. Thanks for all the replies all. So helpful
  4. I know this has been batted around a million times, but like everyone else laments, the search functions no longer work!! so... my ds took his first (of 8) CB practice tests. he scored 1480 on his first, taken cold. so what should our study plan look like? from what i've read on prepscholar and the like - he should examine which he got wrong and why and see if there is anything he can glean from that. then should he link to khan academy and do a little practice on khan before taking the next practice test? i figure he has 7 more practice tests - we'll do one per week. then practice/study a bit in between. any thoughts on what this should entail? and should he practice the essay at all - if so how? THANKS!!
  5. We took Alg I this year and loved it. Got our final grade alongside the final testing grade, back in early June! We're coming back for Geometry and plan to use through Pre-Clac.
  6. who has taken this? any feedback? how many hours per week? how is the class set up? a good asynchronous class? etc..+ i see some offer it as a semester class, but PAH does it full year - so what's the work rigor?
  7. who has taken any of these? what is your experience? we are seeing a world/euro history option for next year. does not necessarily need to be a-g approved, and may or may not culminate in an ap test at year's end. but we need something not homegrown, as otherwise my son will blessedly forget to do it. so outsourced responsbility becomes an important factor. anyone with uc scout experience in any subject? how do the classes work? are they worth it?
  8. Arcadia, I like your a-g organization (for us UCalif hopefuls) so hope you don't mind if I copy the format. Helps me get my mind in order. This is for my rising 9th grader. 2nd in high school for me. History/social science (“a”) - World History (no idea yet) - could be at-home AP Human Geography... up in the air English (“b”) - IEW SICC-C + WttW Mathematics (“c”) - Geometry w/ Jann in TX (myhomeschoolmathclass) Laboratory science (“d”) - Biology w/ WTMA (no more Mrs. Up - boo-hoo) Language other than English (“e”) - Spanish 1 w/ Homeschool Spanish Academy Visual and performing arts (“f”) - maybe Photography course w/ FundaFunda (no idea) College-preparatory elective (“g”) - n/a 6 credits to start
  9. Anyone do it? What textbook and materials did you use? Is it feasible? Thanks!
  10. I understand all too well. Isn't it like that though, playing around for those K-8 years? LOL! We've got incoming 11th, 9th and many younger ones next year. So from experience with my oldest 9th grader, you will get in your groove. I 'played around' a bit still starting in 9th - for a couple months, then we got our groove. We outsourced much too, which helped lighten the load for me and made a smoother transition to high school level work. We also made an online planner so I could help him map his week out - that has worked amazingly. We use OneNote so it syncs on all computers.
  11. We always wait until after Labor Day. That makes me feel all ready. By the time September rolls around, we are ready!
  12. Just wondering... need a new Biology book for my dd's WTMA Biology. Son used Holt with it 2 years back, but they've now changed. So new book. Pricey one at that - just wondering if anyone has one they'd like to sell! ;-)
  13. After switching away from WHA for AP Calc AB after a change-up in instructors, we're going with Derek Owens. My dd took his Physical Sci class last year so I'm familiar with his use of his own materials. Would it be beneficial to get the text and solutions manual also for Calc AB? I can't imagine not having both texts as we've been used to, but perhaps it's really useless? Please weigh in.
  14. More PAH results. AP Micro (Burns) - 1/2 year taken after AP Macro Hi folks, Congratulations on your outstanding performance on the AP Microeconomics exam! Nearly everyone in your class got a 5. Thanks for all your hard work! -- Also yes do share the good, bad & ugly. Otherwise one does get the impression everyone on these boards lives on solid 5's and solid 800's for SAT IIs. We thougth so and were in for a rude awakening last year (9th) when my ds pulled 2 3's & 1 4. But now he knows the power of studying, and so were thrilled to have turned the tide so well. ? But please do share! It helps us all.
  15. also happy to hear about edhesive stats class... you have been our guinea pig, freesia.
  16. Macro (PAH) - 5 Micro (PAH) - 5 AP Govt (retake) - 5 Chem (PAH) - 4 Sooooo happy!!!! ?
  17. BUMPING this in the hopes that those off you who stuck it out with Mrs Upperman's replacement would share how you liked the class?? And was your teacher Monica Bennett??
  18. same with us. we were taking AP Calc AB at WHA. oddly enough, i hadn't yet officially registered as class wasn't full. and then no more beloved mrs. stublen. unfortunately, my son didn't gel with leslie smith her replacement in geometry, so no more WHA for us. we're opting for derek owens. WTMA bio - not sure what to do. i don't have a handy back-up plan. what frustrates me re: WTMA is they didn't even notify us! i understand WHA did alert those already registered...
  19. Just happened across our WTMA Bio class we're signed up for this year. And I see online it is NOT Amy Upperman as we signed up for, but Monica Bennett. No email, no nothing to notify us. Anyone else? I am beyond frustrated, as I chose Bio with Mrs. Up as my son loved her - otherwise we would have chosen Jetta's Clover Creek Physics instead. Of course that boat has sailed long ago. Frustrated!!!!
  20. and all PAH are not created equal. PAH as a whole is great - but it depends on your individual instructors... we've had 1 bad experience, 3 good now. we now pick and choose very carefully. we never took PAH AP CS-A so i have no advice to give there. i do think edhesive is great and will even likely consider it in a few years when it's time for ds#2 to take AP Cs-A. it's a good class. worth $550? i don't know - but if they can score a 4 or 5 on the exam, maybe so. too bad though as it was one of those classes that helped average my other high cost classes down!
  21. no help for you, as we've only taken WHA with stublen. we're in the same boat as you next year - ap calc no longer taught by mrs. stublen, and my ds did not love leslie smith for geometry so does not feel he'll do well in ap calc with her. so we're opting for derek owens. don't know what we'll do for future kids! drat!! hoping to hear some more options! ;-)
  22. AP CS-A is perfect for mathy 9th grader. my ds took their course and got an A & 4 on the exam. he also had very little programming experience. however price tag is far heftier than when we took it so there's that to think of. no live meeting at all. you complete 1 week's worth of material (videos, activities obline, sometimes quizzes/tests) - each week a new week's material is available to you. there are discussion forums where my ds always got his answers when stuck.
