Yep. She's my half sister, and she lived with her mom, only visiting during the summer (and my parents worked, so they were hardly around when she was home). She is JUST like him. Down to the way they chew ice, the way they adjust themselves in their seat, the way they eat, and definitely the narcissistic component.

I lasted less than a week at any retail or restaurant jobs I've had (2 or 3). I do not do well operating on someone else's schedule and having my every move dictated.

Hmmmm. I'm not sure then. I will add re: siblings or this running in families, my sister is very narcissistic. Almost as much as my dad, but not quite (that could be because she does have the maternal instincts toward her kids). But the thing is, she didn't grow up with him. Yet she is his spitting image.

Wouldn't this be more along the lines of sociopath?? I suspect both of my parents are narcissistic in that they think only and primarily of themselves- and always have. They are always the victim of everything, everything they do is primarily for themselves with no real thought of others. But they are not mean-spirited or vile. They're too wrapped up in themselves to go out of their way to hurt others, and they truly are not vile people. Just very, very selfish.

Would you recommend a reading list like AO's to choose books from? What would you recommend for a 12yo 6th grader who is a voracious reader but never been pushed to read the classics? I have to force myself to read the classics, it is not enjoyable for me even still, and I just have not pushed her yet. She is so moody and quite fickle, and I have never wanted to quell her love of reading. She also prefers to listen to audiobooks.

just today? I've been in this mode since October. It's a good thing my older 2 kids are more independent and I just have to check their work. I've really let things slide with my 1st grader and younger crowd. But my main goal was to get him reading this year, which he is, so I can't be too hard on myself I guess.

Agreed! I have 6 boys and this is the approach I plan to take.

I do tend to believe that wearing certain clothes encourages lust, but this is a really good point.

They haven't seen a broad forehead until they see my son. His forehead casts its own shadow. lol Seriously we had 2 CT scans done, his doctors have always been concerned, but thankfully there was never anything wrong with his brain. He is my child with most severe sensory issues, and my suspected Aspie kid.

I agree with you. What really cracks me up is when it's a bunch of middle-aged moms of many patting themselves on the back for dressing modestly as to "not cause their brother to stumble." As if it's folk like us that are causing the men to "stumble."

I am a very gullible person (unfortunately). I was particularly fascinated by that cleanse that claims to kill worms and parasites that you then see coming out...the other end? I even looked at pictures on their website and everything. :ack2: Apparently tons of people had the same experience. So how do you explain THAT? I am a believer in OTC probiotics, I took a whole bottle within 3 or 5 days after I had antibiotics for group B strep at the end of my last pregnancy. I noticed a difference right away. Too bad I can't afford to take that many on a normal basis.

Thank you for the bed suggestion! It went well. I was a crazy cleaning woman (and yelled at my kids a time or two :( ) before she came over, and sent dh right out the door with the kids and the dogs in the minutes beforehand. It was so calm and peaceful, the Christmas lights were on, everything was clean.....ahhhh. She wasn't overly meticulous, just checked the rooms in general. The thing she seemed most concerned about was that the shower door is not aligned well and it's hard to open/close (it's been that way forever). She said she thought we were doing really well as such a big family in a small house, and said eventually the owner will like to sell and maybe she could help us with that someday. I told her we would like to be long-term renters here, and she said she's glad we like it here. I'm glad that's overwith! I hate feeling like people are coming into my space to look around and analyze things, kwim? But she was very nice, asked me what curriculum we use, etc.

I am already making sure dh takes ALL the kids, and the dogs OUT while she is here, LOL! She's coming this afternoon. The curtains aren't super noticeable and our carpet is decently clean (it's a white/gray carpet- ack!! But I steam it regularly and have the cleaners come twice a year). I'm going to do a big clean up before then to get the things like Legos and toys out of general areas, etc. And hope for the best.

Yes! That's why I'm here, too. This place helps me realize just how much I still don't know. :)
