  1. I ditch if there’s crying—either the child OR me. If it just seems like a really terrible fit and we’ve given it several months, I’ll consider ditching. Usually I will try to just finish with it and change the next year though.
  2. My favorites things to get are the NYX Lip Butter gloss (tiramisu is my favorite!). NYX is drugstore brand and cheap, but they have the best selection. I also like to get my shampoo and conditioner there because twice a year they have liter sales and it’s a SUPER price! That sale is usually in January and July. I’m hoping to go this month and try either Bare Minerals or possibly their IT brand for some makeup. I got a gift card for Christmas and I’ve been saving it to try a new foundation. Oh, I also buy my CeraVe PM Lotion there too. I really just like to browse because it’s such a fun, pretty store! :)
  3. I agree. Call urgent care. Tell them you did not take the crutches and tell them to resubmit the corrected bill to your insurance company.
  4. This is what I was going to suggest as well. I have one DS who seemed to get a rash under his shirt and we thought it was probably caused by sand getting in his shirt, then friction, causing it. Now we try to just use sunscreen and no swim shirt.
  5. I can’t multi quote, so I’ll just comment on various posts. :) Re:military. This DS will not join the military for training. DH is AD military and so far none of our DC want to pursue this AT ALL. Re: putting down roots/staying with one dept. This actually sounds great for my DS! I can easily see him being the one that does this, especially near family. Great info!
  6. Papa John’s...which is what we have almost every Friday. :) ETA: Well, we’re really shaking things up tonight and getting Pizza Hut instead. 😂
  7. Excellent information. Thank you so much for posting this! Gives us more to think about and research.
  8. Thank you all so much for all the wonderful info! Love the hive mind! :) Lori D, thank you for giving us more to investigate. We will look into wildland fire fighting as well. I’m not convinced he has decided on a career this early, but at least he’s thinking and researching. ;)
  9. Well, we don’t have an ‘area’. I feel like that makes it a bit tougher for DS because he’s not able to check out ‘local’ depts where he might work because we are many, many moves away from that. :(
  10. Fire investigation would be something DS would like...delivering babies, not so much. 😂
  11. That’s goof info...thanks! DS doesn’t seem that excited about the EMT side of it. Not totally opposed, but not excited either.
  12. So, if I’m understanding this volunteer training correctly, DS could possibly look into this at whatever town/city we are stationed at during his HS years, right? Meaning, would they mind or would it be ok that he’d be likely moving away from the town?
  13. Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology is the name of the 4-yr degree that he looked into at our state uni. I admit that I know nothing about this though. It looks like it could maybe?? offer a back-up career if injury did occur?? I’m really out of my expertise/knowledge with this...
  14. Oh man, that’s crappy. I’m so sorry for your DH.
  15. Good info! It raises so many more questions/concerns though! First, this is my DS who actually *wants* to attend college, so I think he’d prefer to get a degree of some kind. That’s why we looked into the fire science one. Second, we’re AD military and move very often, so there’s no way he’s going to be able to get his foot in the door locally (long term), because locally always changes! It also means he doesn’t know (right now anyway) where/what area he would be working. Re:high school credits. How do they train while in high school? It sounds awesome, but how? Is it through a school, or by volunteering at your local station? And is it common to get to volunteer at these stations without knowing someone/having an inside contact? Because we will never be in our home town during high school 😔 Also, I hate to ask, but does homeschooling high school hinder these opportunities in any way?
  16. Great! Tell me what you know. 😉😂
  17. Does anyone have first-hand knowledge about firefighting as a career? I have one DS (7th grade) who is very interested in this. We can do tons of research online about requirements, degrees, training, etc, but I'm really wondering about more first-hand info. All of the firefighters I know back home are in a small-ish city and ALL have second jobs. Does a bigger city make that scenario unlikely? Are you more marketable with a 4-year fire science degree, or with an associate degree and paramedic training? *Is* paramedic training practically a necessity? These are just a few questions that we can't really find just by research. I'd love to hear whatever you know! Thanks!
  18. My DS is in the Pre-Algebra class and it’s going really well. It’s his first online class and we haven’t had any problems at all. The amount of work is quite doable and he likes his teacher. 😊 I wasn’t sure which class he should take...the 7th grade or the Pre-A, but Mrs. Perkins was able to help us make the correct choice.
  19. Taco Tuesday for us too! This week it was beef soft tacos. Usual sides of rice and beans.
  20. I’m sorry the news wasn’t what you were hoping to hear. I’m lifting you and your DH up in prayer today.
  21. Our favorite casserole is our version of a Mexican casserole. Not healthy, but good! Brown 1 lb ground beef. Add: 1 small can red enchilada sauce 1 small can diced green chilies 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can Ranch style beans, drained (can use black beans if preferred) Cumin, garlic salt, chili powder Warm that together. Then layer: Corn tortillas Meat mixture Shredded cheese Repeat til pan is full. (9x13) Bake for about 45 minutes at 375. Tastes best if you let it sit for at least 20 minutes after it cooks.
  22. Yay for your DS! Glad he had a great day! You did good. :)
  23. Mine would like to zone out with electronics during that afternoon time, but they’re not allowed on until 4:30. They like to: Play basketball in the driveway (basketball goal has been the best money spent on outdoor stuff) Trampoline If it’s after 3:00-ish, they’ll play with some neighbors that have gotten home from school Board games Lego occasionally Art occasionally Argue lol Made up games (obstacle courses, spy, etc)
  24. Frog and Toad Morris the Moose Elephant and Piggie maybe these would work? They were well-loved here!
  25. Yep, exactly. If I could put it in homeschool terms, I’d say the FRG is like busy work worksheets...some people love them, but they’re just not worth my time. 😂
