  1. There's an app called "We Read Too" that has a nice growing list of books. Also, don't overlook comic books (age appropriateness varies by title): Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1 by G Willow Wilson Storm, Vol. 1: Make it Rain by Greg Pack Vixen: Return of the Lion by G Willow Wilson Princeless by Jeremy Whitley Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales) by Bender Static Shock Malice in Ovenland by Micheline Hess The Deep by Tom Taylor Shadow Rock by Robert Love Quantum and Woody by James Asmus Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I hated every character in"Anna Karenina" and "Wuthering Heights". Also, I got two pages into reading "The Black Stallion" to my son before I realized I had made a terrible mistake.
  3. *bump* Does anyone know of any good afterschooling blogs? I've already seen the "Teaching My Kid to Read" blog but I was hoping someone here had come across something different.
  4. My husband couldn't resist this today so I guess we'll find out shortly how it works.
  5. -Maybe they should have staked out Terminus for longer than five minutes! -As soon as I saw all those hipsters making...what were they doing anyway? Assembling Vespa seat covers? Anyway, they should have turned and walked out as soon as King Hairgel (Garett?) starting speaking. -I'm glad the Internet rumors were wrong and Glen didn't die. -A candle room? Really? -Also, I was completely annoyed at Darryl for his half arsed explanation of what happened to Beth. Kidnapping is a wee bit more intense than "she's just gone man."
  6. I want Claire's wine glasses.
  7. Meechum is a real company man. I thought President Grant on Scandal was the dumbest POTUS on TV but Walker is actually worse.
  8. Open gate + No one standing watch + grill lit up with no protein in sight = No me gusta. Also, this is a wee bit unsettling...
  9. Poor Meeka/Mekka/Mika/Whatever. That said, I'm glad THAT particular storyline is over. Now can we just get to Terminus or at least revisit Michonne?
  10. I just can't with any of the children on this show, including Baby Judith. I was actually disappointed to see her with Cutty (I can never remember the character's name on this show so I call the actor by his name on "The Wire.") I'm trying to enjoy the zombie apocalypse, please stop shoving children and diaper bags and formula in my face! I am very excited about what awaits everyone at Terminus though...
  11. I read Wonder aloud to my 7 over breakfast every morning for awhile. We really liked it and it was helpful for my son since we had been talking alot about pre-judging people, the meaning of friendship and compassion. That said there were some chapters that just made me go into the ugly cry over Cheerios.
  12. He sounds great to me! My son is 7, has been taking piano twice as long and sounds about the same. I agree with CindyZ about the adjudications. My son had one last night at a piano festival and it was really valuable to hear instant feedback from someone other than his teacher about his playing. It's also fun for the kids to get a ribbon or trophy depending on his or her performance. My son got a blue ribbon and is already talking about earning the trophy when his time comes.
  13. Is the library an option for you? You mentioned in another thread that you're from Seattle. Do you have a Seattle Public Library card? Or have a relative that will let your use her library card number to access the ebooks?
  14. As soon as he mentioned Germany I knew this would lead to another great disappoint for Edith. That chick cannot catch a break.
  15. My young one really liked: The Robot and the Bluebird Phileas' Fortune The Pencil No Such Thing Samsara Dog The Big Orange Splot The other books we've read are on our Goodreads (but I usually only rate the ones he really enjoys) https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/10770755-beastboy
  16. My son really liked Max Disaster but there are only 3 books in the series. He also really enjoyed Stink books, Stick Dog, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Phineas & Ferb chapter books.
  17. My son reads in the morning before school for 20-30 minutes and then again in the afternoon. I usually pick his morning book and then let him pick what he wants to read afterschool. Also, anything he reads during non schedules times is free choice.
  18. This thread is epic and was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Ruth!
  19. I had a subscription when my son was in first grade, he liked it at first but within a few months he wanted to kill it with fire. It was boring, tedious and too repetitive.
  20. My son is in 2nd grade but the gifted program doesn't start until 3rd grade. He is in an accelerated math class now.
  21. Also, when Michonne was alone she had her two jawless/armless zombies with her because their presence warded off other zombies. Why aren't they surrounding the prison with them too?
