  1. We will be doing year 1 redesign and will have two D's, one UG and one LG. We plan to start Aug 25th and I am looking forward to using this.
  2. Jane, thanks for the link! Scarlett, I knew you were joking @ the DR stuff. I don't like debt, but I am thankful the loans are available and thrilled he will be going on to college! Thanks for the help everyone!
  3. My kids are paying their own way through school as we aren't in a position to help them and are not able to co-sign either. My oldest son got enough grants and scholarships that he wont have to any loans. The son I was asking about in the OP is going to go to the community college and get his AS then transfer to the University for his BS. He should get some grants, but I don't know if it will cover all his tution thus the need for a loan. He turns 17 this August and wants to graduate early and start full time at the CC in January.
  4. My upcoming senior will be 17 when he heads off to college and I never thought of student loans and age requirements before. Will be be able to get a student loan if he isn't 18?
  5. Go vote :D http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2008/edition_06-01-2008/Intelligence_Report
  6. Oh, whew! I always thought the salt would keep them from getting soft. Maybe that's an old wives tale and I am very guilable :D Thanks!
  7. I don't know what I was thinking. :banghead: Will the beans still get soft or are they ruined?
  8. Thank you everyone for the great ideas!!! I am going to try to do 6 weeks of plans and see what happens. I know our BJU stuff has some kind of lesson plan but I haven't looked through the materials yet to see exactly what. I need to get organized soon lol.
  9. I have always used a check list with my kids that just had the days of the week and it would say the subjects on the top and they checked off that they did that subject that day. We have always just done the next page/lesson type of thing. However this year I am finding we all need more accountability so I am thinking of an actual detailed lesson plan telling them what pages to read or complete each and every day. Where do I begin? Any helpful tips would be appreciated! Anyone else do this with lots of kids? I am wondering how long this is going to take LOL
  10. I would think that in most states now a days hitting an 18 yo could bring a charge of domestic abuse. I would not spank an older chlild as I feel it's abusive and only serves to humilate them most likely leading to rebellion rather than obedience. If they don't have their children under control by now( thus the "need" to spank an 18 yo), they need to take a look at themselves and see what changes they should be making.
  11. Hi! Sorry I missed this earlier. We haven't started using TOG yet and will jump in come August, so I am not sure how it's going to unfold for us. I have a schedule made up but no clue how practicle it's going to be LOL. I am enjoying the other responses !
  12. Can you break it up during the day? Maybe she could do 3 pages first then, work on some other subjects, then come back and finish the last 3 pages. Thay way it wont seem so overwhelming, but it still gets done.
  13. :iagree: I started a reply until I saw this and this is exactly how we feel and deal with our DDs.
  14. If I remember right it's 25% and a 15 year mortgage. There is no way DH and I could do this at this point in our life. Hopefully we will be debt free otherwise so it wont matter as much.
  15. We got a puppy when our house in NH was on the market. The puppy had a major accident and we ended up having to replace the carpet, which was only 18 month olds. I wouldn't do it if it were me.
  16. homesteadingtoday, living like no one else, a private christian moms board, McDougall, TOG boards, unassited childbirth and a vegan one. Oh and I just joined one for restoring old houses, just in case lol.
  17. Jumping in to say I have a brand new, unopened SOS SPanish II for sale on the swap boards.
  18. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24878696 I am so glad they decided on this!
  19. The only thing we didnt' really like at this level was PTIW 1. We tried it twice and it just didn't work for us. We are switching to IEW and I hope that's a better fit.
  20. I haven't read through the responses yet, but I have graduated two so far. We have never belonged to an umbrella so I just bought them a diploma online ( 1st through HSLDA and 2nd through http://www.homeschooldiploma.com/ ) and when we felt they had completed our goals for them, we graduated them. We did a small ceremony, gave them the diploma and then had a small party. We don't have them take the GED for personal reasons. Both children were accepted to the schools they applied too and none of the schools asked to see their diplomas.
  21. I work out in the mornings so I shower afterwards.
