  1. Sorry, I misunderstood (or maybe wishful thinking was blurring my vision ;) ) Thanks for the link to the other thread.
  2. Peace Hill Press has the CDs, but if you have an MP3 player, the Audible download is a little cheaper.
  3. I didn't think there was a third volume yet. Has there been a publication date announced?
  4. Are the others likely to be coming soon? We are studying ancients now and I'd love to have a copy on audiobook for the car.
  5. Do Havahart traps come small enough for hamsters? You could put food and water in one of those. When they go in, the door shuts behind them.
  6. If you are buying or making any GF bread products or using flour mixes, check for guar gum or xanthan gum. These are great for replacing gluten and making the baked goods stick together. BUT they cause diarrhea in some people. It may be as simple as just avoiding those.
  7. I think it doesn't work both ways: I ignored you. I could still send PMs to you, but you couldn't send them to me. (I would've thought it would show up in my inbox as an ignored message, but maybe that's the purpose of ignore: the person can't contact you privately.)
  8. I didn't get one from you. If you sent one, it didn't come through even after I un-ignored you.
  9. We do the same thing after we watch the news each day. I list it as "Current Events and Discussion" which fits most anything.
  10. Since I'm up early I can test it for you. I sent you a PM. Try to send me one and see what happens.
  11. :iagree: Thank you so much, Ruth. I'm a physicist, so don't deal with the squishy stuff too much, but I've become fascinated with evolution and population genetics lately. I know most of what you've posted here, but you've made it so clear and simple that it will help me explain it to others (if I'm ever as brave as you've been here ;) )
  12. We are really enjoying Latin Alive. I have never had Latin and I'm learning right along with ds14. I'd definitely recommend the DVDs if you haven't had Latin. There is also a yahoo group where you can ask questions and get additional resources. The author checks in there and answers questions frequently.
  13. What about NSAIDs? It's apparently a commonly known (but no one told me) side effect of drugs like Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Voltaren, etc. I took too much with a inflammatory disease and now I can't take a single advil without breaking out with mouth sores. BTW, I was fine for 30 years taking them, before I developed a reaction.
  14. Thank you for being so generous! The book looks great, though I haven't had the time to sit down and read it fully. I was hoping there would be an e-book version because I want to print the question pages for ds to fill in for his notebook. BTW, I've already pre-ordered the book from Amazon :D He will definitely want a real book copy to sit and read, but it's great that I can print parts as needed from an e-book for no additional charge!
  15. Lots and Lots! I don't limit it at all. About half of our school work is videos or online classes so that's about 4 hours a day. Ds (14) spends a good deal of his free time either programming (in front of the computer) or writing (in front of the computer). We don't watch much regular TV, but again it's not limited. Now that I have a Nook, even my reading time is in front of a screen. Ds still prefers real books, but that would add more. I don't worry about it much anymore. Dh and I are both programmers and spend an insane number of hours in front of a screen. We're all three smart enough to go outside and stare off in the distance when we need to :D
  16. Very interesting. My ds is 14 and I've been reading more about apprenticeship models and the teen brain. I was intrigued by this article a few years back by Robert Epstein: Myth of the Teen Brain He also wrote The Case Against Adolescence and the updated version Teen 2.0
  17. I thought it was an excellent book...not sure how I managed to put a thumbs down in my post above??
  18. Ken Miller also wrote a book on evolution (both from a scientific and societal viewpoint) Only a Theory: Evolution and the Battle for America's Soul
  19. I've looked at the One Year Adventure Novel and have a question for those who have seen it. The website states it includes a Biblical worldview. How does this fit in the curriculum? Is it heavy-handed or denomination specific? Could it be used by someone looking for a secular program with just a little adaptation?
  20. As a math/science tutor myself, I never charge for the first hour. I work with the student for an hour, go home and let the family decide if they want to hire me. I wouldn't like the high pressure, decide in 15 minutes, pitch.
  21. Absolutely! I've also been to secular groups where the prime conversation among moms seems to be bashing the religious groups. Some people have the us vs. them mentality, and they carry it with them to whatever activity they support. They feel like they can't support or believe in something unless they are bashing something else. I've found that looking for groups that have "inclusive" in their title or description helps. There I find people who understand that what is best for their family is not required for everyone's family.
  22. Me too! Without the eggs I can't see how they would hold together. Of course, mine are gluten free so I don't have the gluten as glue either.
  23. We have a service dog training facility near us, so I see the dogs in training out and about all of the time. They are always vested, they never snarl or bark, and they do not pee and poop in stores. Dogs that are truly in training have already been taught decent manners before they ever take them in public. Even if you don't like dogs, there is one upside to having these around all the time. I never see "pretend" service dogs in public places. I'm guessing it would be too obvious what isn't a service dog when you've seen the real thing. BTW, I love my dogs and take them lots of places, places that are appropriate. And I've got to say even with my "non-trained" dogs they do not use the pet store as a bathroom or ever snarl or bark at people!b
  24. So you are saying a motivated preschooler can overcome the power of a black hole :D I do know that if you lose something small enough to choke on, you can invite a toddler over and it will quickly be found! My black hole is full of pencils. We never lose socks. The dog always carries them off to his bed, so I know just where to find them. I guess he's like a motivated toddler.
