  1. The best would be Mira Costa. Look at transfer agreements to get a good idea. A lot of homeschoolers use Palomar, but it's far. Mesa is pretty good as well. For your DS, I would go to UCSD.
  2. A lot of women get hemorrhoids and/or anal fissures in pregnancy/birth, and don't receive proper pp care. I've known several friends who have needed pp care for this issue. Now, if you were a porn star, doing some of the more "exotic" things with your anus on a regular basis, I might be concerned. But, your run of the mill couple having consensual and pleasurable anal sex on occasion is probably not going to put a person into diapers.
  3. Nothing. I learned from friends and personal experience at a young age. ETA: I never even told my mother when I got my period. Seriously. Zero communication about it all.
  4. My kids and I still like to sing "wrapped up like a douche," even though we know the actual lyrics. Who doesn't like saying the word douche?
  5. I too did Basic Training at Fort Jackson. My mother flew to my graduation and told my drill sergeant, "Thank you for doing in 12 weeks what I couldn't do in 17 years." I started college at 19 a completely different person, and I still credit my academic success to the discipline the Army instilled in me. This will be a lifechanging experience for him. Thank you both for your service. :grouphug:
  6. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I upload documents all the time with the Tiny Scanner app. You use your smartphone camera to take a pic, and the app converts to pdf. It's very handy. Works in both Android and iOS.
  7. Thank you for this. We already enjoyed The Green Ember, so I picked up the prequel in ebook and audiobook formats (audio was pretty cheap).
  8. That sounds like endorsement enough for me. I just didn't want to buy them if they are lame. :)
  9. Exactly this. We usually serve margaritas at our parties, and the parents have a blast. A piñata is also a requirement. :)
  10. Currently: The Mysterious Benedict Society Recently (Not Yet Mentioned): The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate
  11. Interesting. I had never heard of Hoopla. Apparently, none of the libraries in San Diego County are members.
  12. Kathy, thank you for taking the time to explain. I am tucking all of this wonderful information away for future studies, including my own -- I never loved math until I had an amazing Calc professor in ugrad. I considered double majoring in math, and now wish I had done so. I look forward to exploring these areas of mathematics, so thank you for your generosity in sharing.
  13. Kathy, I thought the standard sequence was to do Multivariate Calculus before Linear Alegebra and Differential Equations. Can you elaborate on why you should reverse the sequence? Are there schools who use the approach you've recommended? As a humanities person with a STEM kid, I learn so much from these threads. :)
  14. What was their response? That's rather discouraging that they're so wedded to age/grade.
  15. Bumping this to see if we have any more reviews...
  16. Has anyone used this series? The reviews on Amazon and Goodreads are pretty good. Thinking about picking up some of these for my oldest to read. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=top+secret+files+prufrock&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Atop+secret+files+prufrock
  17. People recommended that I buy the TM, but I haven't opened it once all year (and we are almost done). If money is tight, I would skip it.
  18. Since we seem to be in about the same place with Latin, I thought I would throw out our plan. After we finish SSL2 (in a few weeks), we are going to read through Minimus for the rest of the year. Next year, we plan to do GSWL and Minimus Secundus. The following year, I plan to enroll Sacha in Lively Latin's online class, which covers LL1 and LL2 (LL3 is still being written). Not sure if this is in your budget, or if you even want to begin outsourcing (I do!!). I've read good things about LL, and the author is even a teacher at our charter school, so the charter will pay for the class -- bonus! If outsourcing is a possibility, you might look at LL. After that, I plan to oursource to Lukeion (Wheelock) or the Harvey Center (Latin for the New Millennium).
  19. I'm so sorry for your loss. May her memory be for a blessing.
  20. Name That Tune. It is my superpower. Or The Amazing Race, because I'm a polyglot and experienced world traveler.
