  1. Yes we do!!! I loathe the ending of DST. Also, I’d like to get rid of football. Honestly, can we just skip fall?
  2. I have heard this trick too. Especially for white walls - no need to paint.
  3. Have they already done the final walkthrough? If they did, you are totally fine with leaving it alone. If they say anything later, just point out where they didn’t say anything at the final walkthrough. They missed it. No longer your problem.
  4. I’ve bought stuff from everywhere except Amazon, although I did some looking. Etsy has a $10 off everything deal. I bought some Christmas stuff I had been looking at. ThreadUp has a up 60% off sale going on and this morning they added free shipping to the deal. I bought a “.new to me” dress and skirt.
  5. How much do you think this will affect foods in other states? Will companies just change the ingredients for everyone or will they make some for CA standards and leave the chemicals in for other places? And do they really need so many years to make the changes?
  6. I’m just going to commiserate here. Oldest dd has Celiac disease, so strict gluten free diet. Dh and ds are picky eaters. Youngest dd has sensory food aversion (we have done therapy), so very limited diet. I hate trying to decide what to fix for dinner.
  7. Have him log in to the website of the loan servicer. My dd is still in college, but since the Covid-no interest thing has ended, we are going to start paying the interest on her unsubsidized loans. When we logged in to look at the amount and how to pay, it had a lot if info about different payment options, including the income based payment option.
  8. This article explains why some people didn’t get the alert. https://whnt.com/news/phone-didnt-get-the-emergency-alert-system-test-this-may-be-why/
  9. Ds has an old flip phone with no sim card that he uses as an alarm clock because he’s not allowed to have his iPhone in his room at night. It went off. No Wi-Fi, no data, no SIM card.
  10. I tried this in my vehicle, but it wasn’t made where you could do this.
  11. I have that problem with my Kia Sedona minivan. I learned you just have to adjust the seat back a little further so it doesn’t touch my head unless I deliberately lean back. I think the problem is most cars are designed for tall men, not their much shorter wives.
  12. There’s always Waffle House. One year dh got us tickets to Medieval Times on Christmas Day. It was seriously the best Christmas ever. We were able to have a great time and eat good food, without me being stuck in the kitchen all day. Maybe there’s something like that?
  13. Never heard of that, but definitely worth trying.
  14. I would love that, but I’m pretty sure dh would not be happy if I said I wanted another bookshelf.
  15. Another consideration is how much money, if any, you plan to use for your dc’s college education. College costs have gone up at an insane rate in the last 20 years. Run the Net Price Calculator (NPC) of a few schools your kids might go to. That will give you an idea of how much they are going to need. They can only get the federal loan (starts at $5500 for freshmen) without a co-signer.
  16. When my grandfather died a few months ago I got a couple of old books that were his. Probably not worth much, more sentimental, especially as one had a nice note written to him from the person who gave it to him. However, the old book smell is really strong. They are around 50 years old. I put them in the room with many of our other books, but now every time I walk in there the smell is almost overpowering. It’s technically the formal living room, so it’s open to the rest of the house, not a closed off room. Is there anything that can be done about it or do I just have to deal with it if I want to keep them?
  17. I put frozen meat in my crockpot all the time. No one has ever gotten sick. Since it’s giving an odd taste, have you considered cleaning it with bleach? If I don’t get mine cleaned right away, I let it soak in the sink with bleach water. Let it sit a while, then pour it out and clean with regular dish detergent. My crockpot with a white insert cracked, my new one is black. I hate that it’s so hard to see if there’s a residue or something still on it. Too much blends in, so I have to clean it extra carefully.
  18. Two of my 3 kids have had that. It’s in no way urgent, but will probably need to be pulled by the dentist. If it’s not loose then the root was probably not dissolved. My kid’s teeth had long roots when pulled. The one thing you need to do is make sure you are brushing between the teeth so cavities don’t develop.
  19. When youngest dd was a toddler, ds would sometimes scoop her up from the living room and hurry to her room to play yelling “run away, run away!” Later when she wanted to play with him she would say ”run away!” Had to make sure people knew my toddler wasn’t trying to leave home.
  20. Does her school have a clinic? That might be a good first stop. They should be able to do basic bloodwork and refer her to a specialist if needed.
  21. Seconding a suit. Even if the job itself doesn’t require it. A suit show they are serious about the job. Make a good first impression.
  22. My 20yo dd and I discovered ThreadUp a couple years ago. We love some thrift shopping.
  23. I don’t know anyone who has started a rescue organization, but I have a friend who is foster pet parent for a rescue organization. She has had probably at least 2 dozen kittens since spring. She cares for the mama cat and babies until they are big enough to be adopted. Maybe there’s an organization already in your area that your kid could work with. Probably easier than start from scratch.
  24. Our youth group is not allow to use phones during Bible class or other spiritual activities. They are to bring a physical Bible. The phones aren’t taken from them. The leaders of our church realize that having a phone out can be a big distraction (for adults too!). They are trying to help them focus and create good habits.
  25. Is he taking the DE at a high school or at a college? That can make a difference. If he’s at a high school, he needs an IEP. If he’s taking classes at the college, he will need to go the the office that handles those kinds of needs, student services or similar. Take whatever paperwork/documentation he has to show need. You can go with him to set it up, but colleges really prefer the student to deal with them themselves. Make sure he has signed a FERPA waiver if he’s 18. If you don’t, the college will not be allowed to talk to you about his grades, classes, etc. Having him sign one even if he’s not 18 can simplify things. The CC my ds is taking DE with requires it for all DE students.
