  1. hmmmmmm, I'm not sure about that one. If you had lost a pair of shoes, you would either have to do without or buy a new pair. If you were able to borrow a pair from a friend, great, but you both wouldn't have the shoes at the same time. Technology makes the "morality call" on this type of instance more difficult. As GothicGyrl said . If you want to be above reproach and sure of your decision, you could call Focus on the Family and ask them.
  2. I'm going to have to get one!!!! These are great.
  3. Wow, not one but two. Sure hope that GothicGyrl is right and they were just some friendly dolphins. I'd love to swim with the dolphins - sharks, not so much. ;)
  4. It's snowing here again. I don't think that I'll be leaving the house even for free pancakes!
  5. I have $600 a month budgeted but I really need to change it to $700 as that is what I end up spending. That amount includes everything - tp, paper towels, cleaning supplies, dog food, etc.... We are a family of 5 in the winter and 7 in the summer when my parents come back North from Arizona.
  6. I second the person who said to try a museum. Both the Field and the Art museums are free for the month of February. We went up to Milwaukee to the Discovery Museum for Homeschool day last Thursday just after the big snow. It was such a great change of pace for us. This has been a long, crazy winter so far. I'm hoping that Spring makes an early appearance this year! :D
  7. If you buy a new shirt for the boy, keep the other one. I'm sure there is someone in your family or close aquaintences who would be happy to wear it.
  8. The father mentioned very quickly and without explaination that she left a year after he had lost his leg. He said that he guessed that it was all too much for her. That was all that was said.
  9. If you feed them a fortified food like Oxbow and give them some green, yellow or red pepper every day, you have the vitamin C covered. Those web sites have helped me a lot! :D It sounds like you will be a good guinea pig mommy because you are doing so much research. Have fun with your new pets!
  10. My little guy is 3 today. We have many of the same kind of discoveries. :D Isn't this age grand!!!
  11. I watched it. It was very touching. :) It seems like he is a devoted dad. I really feel for the kids.
  12. So Holly have you made your decisions on what kind of pet you are going to get?
  13. The links that GiGi gave you are great. I have 3 male pigs in a C&C cage - 4X2 with a 4X1 loft for their hay, food and water. I use fleece down in their play and sleep area. I have made a couple of fleece pads so that I can just take one out, wash the cloroplast with vinager and water, and put the new fleece pad in. The pads are made of old matress pads, and towels with fleece sewn over it. Fleece is great because I or the kids just use the dust buster once or twice a day to clean up the poops. It is economical as well. Upstairs we use Cell-Sorb Plus which is a recycled paper product. It works well to hide the smell and dry everything up. We use it upstairs because they tend to potty up where and while they eat. At the www.cavycages.com site someone has created a food list which is posted in the forums. It lists the nutritional value of the food and how often a guinea pig can eat it. I will still sometimes carry it to the store with me so that my pigs can try different foods. Lettuce is good for pigs, just not iceburg lettuce for the reasons that GothicGirl mentioned. I hope that you enjoy your pigs as much as we enjoy ours.
  14. Will not cashing it make a difference? I would think that it would be better to cash it and put it in it's own savings account and forget about it until next tax season.
  15. I think that is sounds great!!! I would love it and I'm sure that she will too!
  16. Don't forget to check in! This sounds intriguing!!
  17. I missed it because we were watching a CYT production of Annie. I'll have to watch it on the computer today.
  18. My son will sometimes still wet at night but what concerns me is that he will wet quiet often during the day and it isn't because he too busy playing to be bothered. I've checked my dss blood sugar several times as my father is a diabetic and he has the equipment. His blood sugar has been fine. I'm about ready to seek out an urologist..... Not sure what is going on.
  19. I know that you said no to the castor oil but it worked well for me. I mixed it in orange juice, stirred, swallowed, stirred, swallowed, stirred, swallowed until it was all gone. I didn't taste it until the last gulp and it was pretty mild. If you get desparate enough maybe you will consider it....... ;)
  20. I just purchased Mighty Minds on the advice of my 10 yods's reading tutor. Mighty Minds helps with visual processing. She also recommended the card game Set. Mighty Minds has been a hit with my other 2 sons as well as the 10 yo but we haven't done much with Set yet. I purchased them at our local educational store so I don't know where you can get them on-line.
  21. Wow, I don't have children that are at that age yet but I'm not sure that I think that public school is neccessarily "evil". You have to look at your area's high school and your daughter's maturity level. I think that I could have handled the CC with some guidence from my parents. My friends from church were older than I by 2 years and I was a responsible firstborn so I think CC would have been a good choice for me. My area isn't rural though and some of the high schools in the area bus kids to the CC for certain things. I'm sure that you will do what is best for your daughter and your family. You are a thoughtful and caring mother.
  22. I remember learning about Rocky Mountain Oysters when I was a nieve college girl working at a dude ranch for the summer. I had the opportunity to try them but passed.
  23. When I think of Naperville, I don't think that there are any bad neighborhoods. I'm not sure about Warrenville. That area is pretty nice.
  24. I'm sorry to hear about their loss but am glad that they are physically alright!!!! How scary!
