  1. How is this really any different than Protestants be offended by JWs and Mormons calling themselves Christian? Those are new movements, and they diverge quite radically from traditional Christianity, yet people are all over Protestants who don't want JWs and Mormons using the term Christian.
  2. Yeah, I was just kinda shocked by it. They seemed to be completely unaware that Any Jews were waiting for a messiah. It was an awesome time though with some very awesome people that I'll never forget.
  3. Why is it that most youth pastors don't have children that age? It seems that experience with children that age would be a Big deal. It seems to me that just as someone who doesn't have kids yet just doesn't understand certain things, someone who has never parented teens just doesn't understand certain things.
  4. When my son was a baby, and I was planning on homeschooling him, the youth pastor at the church we went to loved to talk about how the homeschooled kids were "weird". We had a bunch of them because our church held co-op classes for homeschooled children. The youth pastor was new and came along well after the co-op stuff started. I wonder how his presence affected the homeschool community there. I assume those families eventually left because he is still there with his attitude. He would go on about how they don't bond with their ps peers because they have nothing in common. I thought, "That's great! I don't want my son to grow up having anything in common with the kind of kids I see here at this church who are psed!" FTR, there were quite a few hardened, full of nasty attitude kids from the local public school there at the time. There was a huge difference between the two groups. The hsed kids could talk to the adults at church comfortably and didn't wear spikes and chains as was common with the ps kids and they didn't hole themselves off in peer groups like the ps kids did. The youth pastor thought that made them "weird". It just cemented my desire to homeschool.
  5. I've never come across a Christian or a Christian resource or MJ person or resource who were ever even come close the thinking that Judaism in it's traditions is inauthentic. Quite the opposite.
  6. Funny how at the synagogue I learned Hebrew at they told me that Jews waiting for a messiah was a Christian thought and that Jews aren't and never were. They were Reform though, and didn't exactly care about sticking to things word for word. I thought it was odd, but they all asserted it strongly.
  7. Take a break! That's one awesome thing about homeschooling that I just love. If there is something wrong, you can take time off and just hang while you are dealing with whatever else is going on in your life. Get back to it next week.
  8. In my mind, it's a different thing when there is the exchange of "I love you" in sign language or not and the boy not being able to handle when the little girl isn't there. It's cute to a point, but I'd have no problem telling my little one that this is not okay at this age.
  9. I think boys, adolescent or not, are responsible for and capable of checking themselves and maintaining appropriate conduct. If somehow they are not capable of stopping themselves, they have no business playing in an aggressive sport.
  10. I have no idea. There is a little girl in my son's homeschool class who talks about her "husband". It makes me uncomfortable. Her mom just rolls her eyes and tolerates it. I think I'd put a stop to it. Early introductions to those things don't do any good for a kid, and may in the long run usher in unwanted things too soon.
  11. My mom used to threaten to do it. The threats didn't work. I'm 29 and just now learning to put my stuff away. :p It's simple in my house. If you leave your stuff lying around I confiscate it.
  12. JWs believe Jesus is Michael as I recall. What about Gabriel the archangel?
  13. Get it checked at your local drug store. :) Then you'll know for sure. For what it's worth, I have the top of the rollercoaster feeling when my blood pressure is too low. It's been 60/40 at times and hovered at 80/60 for years. Now it's a little more in the ok range.
  14. JWs do not believe that Jesus is God. I think that was the point. They believe he is an archangel. I used to be a JW. Before anyone here stops talking to me, I am not disfellowshipped or disassociated! :tongue_smilie: So technically, you don't have to run away from me.
  15. After checking the tetanus incidence in our area and the soil levels (it is not in all areas) my son did not get a tetanus vaccine. Check you local area.
  16. Huh. This is what the CDC has to say about that. "All healthy adults should be assessed for immunity to chickenpox, and those who do not have evidence of immunity should be vaccinated." http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/varicella/vac-faqs-gen.htm
  17. This. My son was a terrible sleeper until we instituted a 6:30 bedtime 3 years ago when he was 2. Now he sleeps for 12 hours straight, and has for the last 3 years. I have hours of alone time after his bedtime and I can get enough sleep. It's amazing. I read about the earlier bedtime in a book, and it truly worked wonders.
  18. Yeah... I'd never send my son to the decent high school I went to. Decent for a ps just doesn't cut it sometimes.
  19. I still have the graphite mark on my finger from when my friend accidentally stabbed me when I was 4. Get it out somehow... Mine hasn't gone away and it's been 25 years.
  20. Not sure, but if it is an issue, I think insurance companies tend to cover the cost of the seats after an accident.
