  1. Definitely less testing if any. I live near the border and know people in various small schools in rural Idaho (20 students in a school to about 140 in others), so it has been an interesting observation these last few years. A mix of vaxed (teachers) with masks, lots of sanitizing all the way to not a care in the world it seems. Some of these families have had sicknesses the past year ("He had RSV with a fever and tightness in his chest."), but none that I have talked with ever mention getting tested or even use the C word. There are grandparents raising grandchildren which I have been concerned about, but none that I know have been sick from it yet. Or if they have, it has been mild. Their health doesn't seem to be the best to begin with. 🤷‍♀️ I pick and choose which stores I will go to when I need to. Lately there have been a 'few' wearing masks at a local grocery store, which is up from a few months ago. 🤪 The news mentions 220 new cases in the Panhandle area today, so yeah, they have it.
  2. I have Volume 2, Our Modern World, 1400 to 1914. Maybe I can send you photos? PM me and will see if we can figure something out!
  3. The only thing I can think of is maybe long ago, there was only 1 cake pan shape for a baby cake, and that was the shoe. So, people generally used that for any baby occasion?! My mom used to decorate cakes, but she never had a shoe cake pan. She would have made a rectangular cake (so there would be enough for everyone), with a cross or something on top. I do remember she made 'booties' out of pink or blue sugar for a baby cake, but not Christening. Actually, I thought you were going to ask how to make those in this thread! But she never taught me how, maybe fell out of popularity.
  4. Check out Costco. We bought HP Office Jetpro 8028 for $99 a few years ago. Of course I haven't compared ink prices. But it has been a good basic scanner/printer.
  5. An MD in my area recommends (for covid): besides vitamin D, Zinc supplements , vitamin C and Quercetin. I don't take these daily, I stagger them. If feeling like I am coming down with something, I will take quercetin for a few days. Don't forget soothing teas: ginger, peppermint, etc. 1 more thing I forgot to add that was recommended by the Dr. was to take NAC. I have taken this too as a preventive or if I felt a cold coming on (I have done some travelling during covid, so I was more regimented at these times as a preventive.) You will have to look it up to see what it is for.
  6. Last night I was thinking, 'Can 2021 get any worse?' With the continued upswing with covid numbers, then recent tornadoes in Georgia, the fires yesterday in Colorado..., really, and now to lose Betty, too? Yeah, I was looking forward to her birthday celebration special on tv also. Someone polled on this forum the other day if 2020 or 2021 was worse...I can now cast my vote for 2021
  7. dd21, moderna, 2 days ago got her booster. Sore arm that afternoon, started to get headache when she went to bed. Fever in middle of night, tried to get up for tylenol and was too chilled so she rode it out. In the morning, took a tylenol and in a few hours was feeling better and was up and around. This was a worse reaction than the first 2 doses, which she pretty much had no reaction other than a sore arm.
  8. I am still on the fence about getting the booster as my tinnitus has quieted down somewhat finally and I don’t look forward to the loudness again. Covid and people I know: A friend of mine in Michigan got the booster, was recently exposed, but did not get covid. 👍 His friend is vaxed, not boostered, did get covid. A friend of ours is boostered, wears a mask on campus and is cautious, went home to Nevada for Christmas. Her sister never was cautious, nor vaxed. Our boostered friend just tested positive, so far her sister has not. 🤷‍♂️ Another person we know got covid in 2020, a mild case. Since then, has driven and flown all over the US and Hawaii. In looking at her facebook page in the last year, you would not know there was a pandemic going on, just having the time of her life. Kind of makes me sick. Not covid cautious unless has to wear a mask, unvaccinated. 🤷‍♂️ Sometimes I wonder too if it is just better to get exposed. But I have never been successful at ‘gambling’, so that will probably decide it for me and I will get the booster.
  9. Well, you didn't start out rude, you asked politely, 'Would you mind...' which was reasonable to ask. I think you had a right to speak up. People scratch their faces, push back their hair, even with latex gloves on their hands, like they don't understand the purpose of wearing gloves. It is frustrating. I had a parking incident happen today. I was in a small unusual sized lot, only 1 way in, 1 way out and it was busy. After waiting a short bit, a lady in a big truck already in the slot decided to back her truck out to move it over. Only, she barely moved it. Hmm, could fit a compact car, not sure about my slightly larger, I knew it would be tight. As she walked away, I gave a quick toot and motioned without an attitude if she could move over more. I was not huffy, just hey, could you please move over, we are all trying to fit in. She walked back, put her hands on hips as she looked at her truck and motioned, I already moved it, like there's room. Turned around and walked away. I could have gotten mad and given her a gesture, but I didn’t. I pulled up a little next to the truck and decided it was too snug for all involved. So I backed out and luckily found another. So yeah, 2 people behind me maybe thought I was crazy, but really, she was rude. She took up more than her spot and I was willing to patiently wait for her to pull out and back in again. Too bad she must have felt threatened. I sat in my car for a few minutes and chilled, and I was glad I was going in with a mask on. It is amazing what is making people so angry these days.
  10. Good for you! I have been thinking about it, I just need to get in my closets. Thanks for the inspiration!
  11. I also had to seriously think about it before I got up, I thought it was Monday.
  12. Sounds like the makings of a Christmas movie (comedy) to me, with Chevy Chase?! But sorry it was real...
  13. Good explanation by Tap. Or see Dr. Ramani's videos on Youtube. I think it takes awhile to fully understand and see it. I know it took me awhile, but now I am better at recognizing it. Like when someone told you, "I told you that before." And you wrack your brain and are sure you remember the details of the conversation, but they insist. But you are positive they didn't tell you what they said they did. Usually it is done by the same person over a period of time, so don't think it is a casual thing by everyone, because sometimes some people do tell us something and we forget. It is an intentional thing by someone who has a problem.
  14. These album notebooks were THE HIT of the day from https://www.etsy.com/shop/LykaStore I chose from movies my kids loved while growing up and a cover from Neil Young for dh. Nothing was spared, there are plenty of inside pages, (you choose the type of page you would like: calendar, blank, daily list...) the front and back of the album covers were utilized, as well as an album sleeve. My 22 year old daughter squealed with delight when she opened her gift! Quality work for sure! So much fun to give a gift they love!
  15. Very sad, almost sounds like they were in an abusive situation? Or traumatic at least. Were they taught in an actual school by a teacher or homeschooled? Just amazing. Good thing they had you though!
  16. I hear where you are coming from. I have had a sinus infection all week that knocks me down, so I totally understand how you feel. It happens. I am sure your family will understand. Hope you can have some time together, play some games or share a meal. Togetherness is what is important.
  17. Thank you for sharing and congratulations to him and you, for all your hard work!👏👏 I work with an intellectually impaired young man and curriculum suggestions and successes are always so helpful from others.
  18. I appreciate the feedback, these are all good ideas, thank you!
  19. You guys are so good at wording things, I just have to say I wish I could think on my feet like you do! Following this thread to 'take lessons'!
  20. Wow, that sounds pretty difficult. If he is this hyperactive, I wonder how he even makes it in the classroom daily. That must be difficult for all involved. In brainstorming your question, I have thought about a few things. When was the last testing attempted? I have never heard of a student receiving sp. ed. services where testing was not completed, not to say that it can't happen... but did the district have a plan for when they will attempt to retest? And hopefully by someone different, who may have more experience with a child with ADHD. If testing doesn’t happen, they should offer another source for testing I would think. Is the student receiving speech/language services? You said that the child didn't understand directions, so I would hope that a therapist is working with him for language to help with following directions. Does the student know his letter sounds even if he does not know his letters? For what it's worth, I have seen improvement in attention from my ADHD/dyslexic kids who have used Barton Reading and Spelling. The fact that they have no choice but to be engaged in each lesson, by manipulating letters, answering verbally, writing, following routines, etc. this has helped my students a great deal. He may have to start with a short 10-15 minute lesson, and gradually increase time as his attention allows, to 20, 30 and even 45 minutes. I had to do that with 2 students and it worked well. Of course he may not even pass the screening for Barton and would then have to begin a program like Foundations in Sounds or Lips, and then continue with Lindamood Bell, Barton or other Orton-Gillingham program. Wow, this is interesting, for all my years of teaching in resource rooms and self-contained, I have never come across this! And for you to have 2 or 3 students, it makes me wonder what is going on in the world! (I am just thinking that years ago down syndrome was in the limelight, now it is autism/aspergers. Are we seeing yet something else in the near future?) I would follow the above advice from others for sure. And you might check out https://www.woodinmath.com/home This site has a plethora of resources for those with severe dyscalculia. They have so many videos on youtube. Here are a few other ideas from their resources page. https://www.woodinmath.com/reference-material/interactive-media Keep us posted, as we can all learn from any new findings, best of luck!
  21. A friend of mine in his 50’s, college educated, lost his job when the pandemic started. The position is no longer offered, and he doesn’t care to be in that type of environment anymore, as it is not the healthiest. He has been doing some side jobs. But in thinking of all the people who have recently lost their jobs, what resources are available to help one discover their interests which can lead to a position, perhaps that they didn’t know of, when middle-aged?
  22. Yes!! Also, I had a friend who actually didn't wrap presents. Her little girl came down Christmas morning and everything was set under the tree. Hmmm, not a bad idea, I had never thought of that!
  23. So true, I hear you on that. I did enjoy small town shopping and shopped more online this year. And I can say I did not set foot once in the big box stores or even the malls, so I am glad about that. But I am feeling it again where Advent started well the first 2 weeks, then got sidetracked with having to finish Christmas preps and buying (which I admit can be fun). But I have not kept up on the last 2 weeks of Advent services I like to watch online. And I still need to do the last minute push to get cards in the mail and finish wrapping. Yes, it is nice to gift people, but I feel once again that I have drifted from my faith part of Christmas. Hang in there, even if things are late, it is the 'Christmas Season', even through New Years.
