  1. Hmmmm....good idea! I'm not a big fan of brussel sprouts. lol
  2. My husband is like that. He hates eating mushrooms, but there are some that he will eat without a problem. I fully accept that. For some reason, even after 15 years together, he refuses to believe that I cannot stand cilantro. He says "Yes you do, you eat stuff with cilantro in it all the time!" Well, b/c it is something that you can't really pick out most of the time, so I just put up with it if the flavor is mild, but if I had my choice I could live without it and won't use it to cook with. I think it is just gross. I also HATE celery, but I will eat something with celery in it if I can't taste it, or the flavor is mild enough. He always says "Celery doesn't have a flavor!" Well, to me it has a VERY strong, nasty flavor. I also can't stand the smell. He says I'm crazy. The same goes for shampoos and soaps. I'm really picky on the soaps I use, b/c most make me itch like crazy. I don't get a rash or anything, so DH tells me it is just in my head. :glare:
  3. All the time here. When we lived in NE it wasn't as often. Just last weekend we were at Walmart, and we had just walked up to the limes and were getting ready to pick some out when a lady came over and physically shoved us AND the lady restocking them out of the way so she could get some. We were all SO shocked! Unfortunately, that stuff happens all the time to us.
  4. Even if you feed it just enough for one sitting, then bring the dish inside? We feed our outdoor cats just enough for them to eat it all in one sitting, and their dish is on top of our well house. It has yet to attract pests or any other animals, other than slugs. Slugs love their dish, for some reason. We don't have bears (as far as I know) but we do have a really bad coyote population. My husband just said today that we have the fattest stray cats on the planet. LOL Otherwise just SSS. If not feeding it and ignoring it doesn't make it go away, it probably won't on its own.
  5. Mine is spaghetti. Otherwise taco pie is REALLY easy and delicious also. Here is the recipe: http://talesofatransplantedcitygirl.wordpress.com/2011/05/24/taco-pie/
  6. Would she be willing to mail with a boy?? DS is 13, and he has many of the same interests (minus horses b/c he doesn't have much experience with them, but he likes them), and he likes to write letters. He has a girl penpal his age in Canada, and he loves to write her. Let me know! :)
  7. You can have a positive ANA and have nothing wrong. I have high ANA and I have Addison's Disease, but it took me a LONG time and two different endocrinologists to get diagnosed. Good luck!
  8. We do our big weekly shopping trip together, or DH and I will go by ourselves if DS has somewhere to be. DH will go alone after work if we need something small things picked up.
  9. It may be a house cat that someone didn't want anymore so they put it outside, or the owner died, and it is just hungry looking for food, especially if it is friendly. We have two of them, but we just chose to feed them, and they keep the pests at bay. If you don't want to feed it, call the humane society to pick it up, or take it to them.
  10. I use either this or this. You can get them both at Target. They are both scented, but neither are "girly". One just smells like lotion, and the other smells like cocoa butter. The cocoa butter is thicker than the lotion is, but neither of them leave your skin feeling nasty. Just soft.
  11. Congratulations!! That's awesome! We are in the middle of the same thing. DH is looking for a new job in his field (machining), and he interviewed in Alabama and was offered the job, but we decided it wasn't the best thing for us so he turned it down. We're hoping an even better company comes along! We hope to move before next August, and we're focusing on further south of here, between Arizona and Georgia.
  12. I was going to suggest the bolded. He can sit down to pee, and with a little shifting of his body he can still "aim" with his hand. Elastic pants will help him with getting them on and off on his own. You can use baby wipes, or they sell dry disposable cloths that have soap in them so when you get them wet they turn into a washcloth. They use those for sponge baths in hospitals. If you get a glove for him (maybe an XL dish washing glove?) he can wash his private parts and whatever else he can reach, and then put shorts on and you can do the rest? That has to be rough...I couldn't imagine having to do that for my son. I wish you luck and patience in the coming weeks! :grouphug:
  13. I also got married at 22, and 12 years later we are still going strong. :) It's natural to worry about our children, though. I don't think that will ever stop. We need to let them make their own choices, though, especially at that age, and just support them. :) Be happy! This is a very good thing for them. ;)
  14. Ours is just a cheapo Rival one (I think) and the lining has never come off.
  15. I'm so sorry. :( :grouphug: My DH's parents both died when he was young. His father died when he was 3, his mother when he was 6 (they were in the same accident, his mother was in a vegetative state for 3 years). He is now 36, and every year he spends the week leading up to the anniversary of the accident in a very bad state. This year was especially worse because it was 30 years since his mother died. It will get better, but don't be surprised if he gets upset around this time every year. Just be there to support him.
  16. Our church used to have the middle school kids and the high school kids together in one youth group. The church recently hired a new youth leader and he decided to split them up on separate days. They never asked the kids or the parents, but that is their choice and I support them. He must have had some questions about it b/c during service one week he had a 7th grade girl and a senior high girl get up in front of everyone and asked them what their interests were, and it couldn't have been more night and day. Just like middle school kids and high school kids have different interests, they also learn differently. What is age appropriate for a senior in high school is NOT age appropriate for a 3rd grader. The same goes for elementary school children, preschool, toddlers, etc. Yes, there is a time and place for multigenerational interaction, but I think that should be saved for times other than youth group and/or learning time.
  17. What about bamboo? The utensils that I use in our non-stick pans are bamboo, rather than wood. I'm not 100% certain, but I think bamboo is gluten free.
  18. Orange cats are almost always male. :) How cute! I adore orange boys! Our barn cat had a really beautiful orange boy with bright blue eyes (they stayed that way!) and I wanted to keep him SO badly! Dh wouldn't let me. :( *pout* Enjoy him!! :)
  19. I had trouble with tampons when I first started using them. I would still recommend the softcup. Just b/c tampons are most widely known of and used, does not make them the best for teens. You never know, she could try it and like it a lot better. You pinch it, and it is just a narrow as a tampon to put in, and it is not hard to use at all. It isn't like it goes in very far (so no real "fishing" for it, you just reach in with one finger and grab it. I think girls need to be aware of their bodies in this way. I would also recommend this product over tampons, b/c you don't have to worry about a girl forgetting about a tampon or leaving it in for too long and getting TSS.
  20. We have been using this one, and we like it. http://www.start-american-sign-language.com/free-sign-language-asl1.html
  21. I would suggest these. I recently started using them after a lifetime of using tampons (can't stand the feeling of pads) and I don't think I will ever go back. I can't feel it at all, and no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome like with tampons.
  22. It depends. I do call them ma and pa, but other times I call them by their first names. My husband does the same thing b/c he was adopted as a teenager. They are technically his biological uncle and aunt through marriage. They are the same way with me...sometimes they (mostly my MIL) call me daughter, other times my first name. I am closer to them than my own parents.
  23. For the past year we have done a date night on Wednesday evenings when DS is at youth group. Just this week they switched youth group from Wed to Sun, and rather than lasting from 6-830pm, it is only from 6-730pm, and it is too hard to do anything in that time period when it takes a least 20 minutes to get anywhere from our church. We used to go out to eat, and then do any mid week shopping we needed to do b/c we can only get to a Walmart or grocery store twice a week. Now, we are going to have to start doing our date night on another night and just leave DS home.
  24. I went to two meals a day at 3 months for all of the dogs I have raised, and none of them resorted to eating non-food items.
