  1. Take a look at Total Lauguage Plus. They have study guides that go along with different books (arranged by age/grade level). The guides are an all inclusive type of activity including reading (obviously), vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing, etc. They get more involved the older the age group, but we are using two of them this year for our 8 and 9 year olds.
  2. My son had that happen a few summers ago. Doc said that it was most likely the result of his feet being hot and sweaty (he or sandals / flip flops a lot that summer) and rubbing in the shoes. We started encouraging sneakers and socks and it seemed to help. By the fall it was all but gone.
  3. We've been to the Memphis Zoo several times and always go to see the pandas. Unfortunately, we've never seen them do anything but sleep... We do enjoy that zoo though. Depending on the age of your kids, mine always liked the Duck Parade at the Peabody Hotel (an activity for younger ones... older ones would most likely not be very impressed). :001_smile:
  4. My daughter's were done at 4 years old. I cleaned them once a night and we never had any problems. Who really cares what others think about it...
  5. If they were yellow jackets, then spraying the ones that were out will not do the job. Chances are that there are many more either in a nest in the ground or somewhere in the area near the bush. The only way to make sure that they are gone is to find the nest and treat it. Yellow jackets feed on and nest around wood and roots. The nest that we had to treat last year was fairly large and was in the ground at the back corner of our house. If you can find the nest, wait until dark and pour bleach into the nest (if it's in the ground). That worked for us, although it took about 3/4 gallon of bleach and 2 treatments to make sure they were all dead. Good Luck!
  6. We had cribs for both of our kids and neither of them was used much. I kept them both with me for at least a year, and they would have been fine going straight to the toddler bed if we hadn't had the cribs. :001_smile:
  7. My kids started playing with them at around age 2, but were still playing with them at 6-7 years as well. :001_smile:
  8. My kids have never had this, but we have friends that have kids that have had it. Seems that the kids passed it around for a while, but the adults never got it.
  9. Our daughter dances and her studio includes several forms of dance (modern/jazz/tap/hip hop) as supplements to the ballet program. However, the ballet training takes priority over the others.
  10. We're in TN, but we pay $41 per year / per scout (no discounts for siblings) if we don't subscribe to Boy's Life Magazine. (It's another $12 or $14 for the mag.) We do participate in popcorn sales, but not in the extreme. Camping and other activities are paid as they come up during the course of the year. (We have a pretty active group.) As mentioned by others, everything differs from group to group, so the safest thing would be to request information from the group that you're looking at joining.
  11. You could try running a washer cleaning solution through the machine. (Clorox makes the kind that we use.) The smell may be due to residue or mildew on the basket of the washer.
  12. We had the same issue in our home and went with the quarter round option. You can get it in many finishes now, or get the plain and stain it yourself to match. I would never try to remove the baseboards as it's likely that they would be damaged and would definitely leave an "edge" in the plaster. We have plaster walls too, and patching and sanding is always a fairly major undertaking. Good Luck!
  13. Have not gotten them persoanlly, but have known 2 close friends that swear by them... Said to give you more energy and focus. Maybe I should try them out!! :tongue_smilie:
  14. Ds is in Gamma, and Dd is using Beta right now. They each watch the dvd with me. I pause it in order to let them answer and work problems. They both respond well to Mr. Demme's instruction, but if your child/children does not, it's shouldn't be hard to teach the lessons just from using the TM or watching the dvd by yourself before teaching the kids. :001_smile:
  15. That's great! We will be testing for the first time next year. Hope our's goes as well!!:001_smile:
  16. Dh has had problems with canker sores for years now. Our dentist recommended L-Lysine capsules (500mg). He takes one each night before bed and it's really seemed to help. We've also found that too much citrus and too much soda seem to cause flare ups.
  17. Yes! I noticed it in my husband's account first, but then it started showing up in mine too. Not always the same messages, but many times they are. Wish I could get rid of it all!
  18. How long could it possibly take to hand someone a car seat and take their $5? She makes it sound like you're going to hang out with them all morning... Maybe a good thing you're not going to meet this person...:001_unsure:
  19. We completed the second half of PLL last year using MFW. During the first year, we used the memorization selections more for practicing reading aloud and only short sections for memorization. We put more focus on memorizing during our Bible study. Some lessons we spread over several days, while others were completed in less than 10 min in one day. :)
  20. DS has always required less sleep than DD. If she doesn't get around 10 hours each night she can be quite difficult. We've found that allowing her to sleep and starting our day a little later (sometimes) can be worth it in the long run.
  21. My husband is self-employed, and I only work a few hours a week (part time as contract labor, so no employer), so we have to maintain insurance for ourselves. We've had life insurance policies from Lincoln Benefit Life for several years.
  22. Mmoodies - It sounds like you and I may be sharing the same child... More than once I would have bet money that he had not heard a word I had said, but when I asked him, he knew exactly what I had read. Other days I can ask and it's like he wasn't even in the same room with us... :banghead:
  23. Not sure what type of ink cartridges this printer uses, but my Epson All-In-One has multiple cartridges and will stop printing if one or more gets too low (even if the others are full). Print quality is good, but running out for ink gets old...
