  1. :iagree: I am not able to do the x-ray machines so every time I have flown I've had to do the pat down. It is no big deal. This is always done by a female officer and in a separate, semi-private area away from the flow of traffic. The officers seem to do their best to make it as comfortable/least invasive as possible. They use the backs of their hands on any sensitive areas and talk you through it the whole time.
  2. I would not. I can't give a scientific reason, but I wouldn't eat them.
  3. We are taking a break from spelling right now, but in the past I have used Natural Speller by Kathryn Stout. It has word lists for grades 1 through 8. I would give ds ten or so words a day to write on a white board. Any he got incorrect we would review at the end of the week. Any of those he continued to misspell would go on a list that we would review more frequently. So far so good with that strategy. :)
  4. In 3rd grade I had ds memorize the beginning of the Declaration of Independence, the Preamble to the Constitution, first 16 presidents, some state capitals, MCT grammar (parts of speech, subject/object pronouns), some poems, some science definitions and that's about it. I have never had him memorize lists of dates or rulers (other than the presidents). I plan to have him do historical dates when he is older and it will stick a bit better.
  5. We saw it in 3D yesterday. We really enjoyed it. I was so impressed with the animation!
  6. Ds has enjoyed the "Let's-Read-And-Find-Out-About..." science series. And I second the suggestion of the Magic School Bus series. That's also a hit around here. Also, there are many websites for elementary science. Brain Pop has a lot of engaging material. HTH.
  7. Yes, please go help her. I'm sure she will appreciate it very much.
  8. My favorite cookbook is Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by Deborah Madison. I use it constantly, it is packed with information and I've never made something from it that I didn't like.
  9. :iagree: Congratulations. I love Terry Gross, I will definitely listen!
  10. I really think a local news agency would be interested in this story. I hope you can get her back.
