  1. Dh, ds and I are all lefties. It's great at the dinner table, we never bump elbows. :D
  2. :seeya: Former punk rocker here. I never saw Minor Threat but I did see Fugazi. :) Thanks for the link!
  3. :iagree: Especially since it a pool party. I stay with my ds when he goes to a birthday party but I don't expect to be fed. I hope none of his friends' parents have been furious when I stayed :blushing:.
  4. I'd say we're about 15 min. from the nearest very basic "hospital" and about 30 min. from a Level 1 trauma center.
  5. This sounds like a great approach. I would much rather do that than skip them, and this sounds like a way we can both keep our sanity. :D Thanks.
  6. Thank you, Heather. I have been doing this all day :banghead: I really like the idea of helping him do it. I need to relax.
  7. My ds9 is having a TERRIBLE time with trying to use the RS drawing board and drawing tools. He just does.not.get. it. It is making me crazy and ruining our math lessons and good math feelings. Has anyone else run into issues with dc not taking to these drawing lessons? Will I being doing too much harm just skipping them? I'm really on board with the RightStart methods but this is making me nuts. Please help!
  8. Aubrey, thank you for posting this, it looks awesome. May I ask, can it be used with just one student? If so, it's going in my Amazon cart. Thanks.
  9. I use Natural Speller with ds. I like it because you can do a lot with it or a little. We just do a little :). I basically just use the lists and have him spell them on a white board. But the book comes with many suggestions for how to use the lists, how to practice the words and other activities.
  10. OT, but I was in line at a store with ds recently and he asks me, "Mom, what's a prostitute?" Thank you, National Enquirer. I really don't have a problem discussing this sort of thing with him, but I was totally taken off guard by that one.
  11. We use WWE alongside MCT here since they seem to work on different skills.
  12. I have never heard of antique spices before! Looks like you know what to get her for Christmas :). (I am thinking Penzey's spice rack here, not just a jar of thyme.)
  13. Thank you for posting this. I can relate. We had a pretty good first day, but I never know what to expect each day. Some days ds is "perfect child," some days he's "Mr. Mopey," and other days he's "I can't find my head even though it's attached to my neck."
  14. They need to feed a high quality food (I have heard that low quality food just passes through and smells the same to the dog :ack2:). Also, I second the recommendation for the powder, that is supposed to work wonders. Good luck! P.S. My dogs also like rabbit poop, goat poop, chicken poop.....
  15. You can get a good sized farm (70 acres) with 5 bed/5ba historic home in my area for $450K, according to Zillow :).
  16. First day of Fourth Grade here! We are excited to start. Have a good day everyone!
  17. Have you thought about square foot gardening (or just raised beds)? you could make lovely flower, herb and vegetable gardens without any concern for the quality of your existing soil. You basically make your own growing medium with peat, compost and vermiculite. You do have to water, though. http://www.squarefootgardening.com/
  18. I do think you should tell the truth. This is a business relationship and basically she has not held up her end of a verbal (or written?) agreement. I know how frustrating this is. My ds has a wonderful piano teacher but we have had numerous times where we've shown up at her house (also a 30 min drive one way for us) to find a note on the door that she is sick or her dd is sick and lessons are canceled. No call even! If it weren't for the rapport and patience she has with my ds I would not put up with this. And if she messed around with the money stuff (she always credits us for the next month if a lesson is canceled), I would be gone! :auto:
  19. :iagree: I like to have a general plan for the year, but I find that we enjoy ourselves much more when things are fluid and we can follow rabbit trails. At heart I am a planner, but I think ds and I would both be miserable if we didn't have flexibility. To each his or her own though, the filers seem happy.
