  1. Ok, so I tried one yesterday. I got it as a treat for my 14dd when I picked her up after track practice. To me it tastes exactly like strawberry Quick. Exactly. It has that same powdery strawberry taste, and I haven't had strawberry Quick in at least 20 years.
  2. It's not really about ogling nipples but rather about irregular size and shape. Especially if one side is developing faster than the other.
  3. I don't understand equating a promposal with a marraige proposal. Proms are just a fun party, even for dating couples. Promposals can be cute and fun, but they are just about the dance. Marriage proposals can be cute and fun too, but they are about romance and your relationship with that other person. They are two completely different things
  4. Here some kids do it that way and some kids don't. It's not a matter of being public as much as it is being creative. I only know of a few that were actually public displays, the rest were all fairly private.
  5. That is not the case here. As a matter of fact students identified as gifted and talented are given an IEP because there are services provided.
  6. Understood but the OP is weighing the merits of what she is saying are good schools in good districts. She says that they have GT/AP/IB tracks. She is asking for experiences with those types of schools.
  7. I'm not saying zip code doesn't matter and I'm not saying things can't change. I do believe that some states are better at at making sure a variety of opportunities are available for schools across the board than others, but I really find it hard to believe that schools offering no other option than 5 study halls to high achieving kids is commonplace.
  8. Come on, the OP is talking about a good school system. A good school system has a multitude of tracks and options for kids with college prep often being one of the lower tracks. Advanced students don't often even have a study hall, let alone 5. I know people that teach in what is considered the worst high school in our state. The lowest test scores, high drop out rates, poverty, gang activity, and even those schools have AP level classes and ECE opportunities. I am often fascinated by your posts and I do understand that things are different all over, but I think your school experiences are by far the exception to the rule.
  9. I agree with this but would like to add that some schools offer ECE (Early College Experience) classes for students on the most accelerated track. So for example, a student that completes AP Calc sophomore or junior year can later take an ECE statistics class at the school that offers them credit from our State University. It is essentially an in house DE. Years ago when I was in high school these ECE classes were associated with the local state colleges. That was a problem because many of the universities students attended after graduation did not accept the transfer credits from the colleges. Now that it is associated with the State University it seems to be more useful to more students. You see these ECE classes in the maths, foreign languages and specialized electives like childcare and accounting. Also, in terms of APs good schools often let students on accelerated tracks start taking AP classes sophomore year and some specific students can take the "easier" AP exams (just the exam not the class) as early as freshman year.
  10. My teeth moved as well in my late twenties and I have considered getting braces again. I really wish I had continued longer with my retainer.
  11. We had that in gym class in high school. We had to swim and were graded on our dives. I got an A on my front dive a B on my back dive and a C on my front flip. It knocked me down a few spots in my class rank.
  12. The emphasis is on the Bur not the lin.
  13. We have a few towns that changed their name pronunciation during WWI to distinguish themselves from from the European cities of origin. Berlin, CT is not pronounced like Berlin Germany it is Buur-lin. There are a few others that I learned about in school. I also say stream but if I had to say creek I'd pronounce it with a long e.
  14. I think that is awful, but here library is a special taught like a class. Parent volunteers are used to check books in and out and re-shelve, so that the librarians have more time to actually teach. Parent volunteers couldn't be relied on to actually teach the curriculum. I'm not sure how that would be handled.
  15. I just showed this to my son and he wondered if you could use it to stick Legos to our dog. I think we'll pass.
  16. Yes similar I guess but I wouldn't think of it as the same thing.
  17. How about baked ziti, meatballs, salad and rolls. It does sound like an awesome program!
  18. Every group I've been a part of and activity we've participated in uses e-mail and/or the organization website. Some also use FB but not exclusively because many people are not FB members. Text is difficult, when I had my android phone I did not get cell signal at home and therefore could not receive texts at home. I know I wasn't the only one.
  19. This. My dd is a freshman in high school who is a habitual joiner. She is in a number of clubs (B1, Student council, ASL) and I've never had to pay anything out of pocket for them. So far she's also done soccer (we paid $75 pay-to-play and she needed to provide cleats and shin guards) and basketball ($75 pay to play and she needed to provide her sneakers). Now track is starting but we already maxed out on pay to play ($150 per student per year cap). There are additional sweatshirts and various other apparel that the students can buy but they are not mandatory. Even the cheerleaders don't own their uniforms. Anyone who qualifies for financial assistance would have these (and any other fees) waved.
  20. This here too. Donations all go towards "Cookie for Heroes" which sends cookies to the troops. A troop would never keep the donation money because that would take away from the cookies being shipped to the soldiers. They still get their cut from each of those boxes the same as if a box was sold directly to the customer. Also, girls can vote to forgo the incentives for selling (bandanas, stuffed animals, etc) in favor of making more money per box for the troop.
  21. In my state if you are doing a private fundraiser, like for example a bake sale, you have to clearly state that you are not a non-profit organization. You need a sign or handout that clearly says you are not a 501c3 organization.
  22. That's awesome!! Why do I feel it needs to have something to do with Tangerines? Tangy Roller, Juicy Lucy? This is fun.
