  1. This is pretty much what I do as far as ingredients and measurements. Instead of rolling out the dough, I drop spoonfuls onto a baking sheet and bake. YUMMY!
  2. I shop mostly at Walmart and Aldi. Sometimes a local grocery store will have a really good sale on pork or chicken, and I'll pick up a bunch. The Target here is more expensive and has a limited selection anyway.
  3. Thank you. I was very upset last night when all this happened. Today I have had time to calmly think about it and I've decided to just step away from him. I have taken time away from him before but always let him back in with hopes that things would be different. This has been the gist of our relationship since he and my mom split up in 2003. If I'm not in total agreement with him, he lashes out. I am a Christian but not his particular faith. When I refused to change churches (as an adult with three children), he call me some horrible names and said I was doomed to hell. Last night he told my little sister he called it "Christie's hell"....I guess I own hell now. :glare: When my sisters and I were growing up, he ignored us unless we were in public...then he acted like the attentive, caring dad he was not. I respect him. He worked hard and paid the bills. Nobody can make someone want their children, I guess. There were three of us girls....he only wanted boys. After I had my first son, he actually told me he could do a better job of raising him than I could even dream of doing. Anyway I guess just a clean complete break is what needs to be done. I appreciate being allowed a vent on this board. Thank you.
  4. So glad tomorrow is Friday. Monday morning my youngest guy jumped onto my bed and lunged at me. The top of his head slammed into my face and broke my nose. I have been in terrible pain all week. Today as I put him in his bed for a nap (he was already asleep), he startled and his little fist caught me right in my nose. This afternoon my dad called to ask me to talk to my mom about a financial issue between them....to talk her out of the lawsuit she has against him. They have been divorced for about four years now, and it looks like she has a really good case against him...from what he said. It wasn't any of my business so I felt uncomfortable and told him so. He said ok then bye...never offered sympathy for my nose and he knew it was broke, and never asked about the boys. Then he sent me a message via Facebook to uninvite me to Thanksgiving dinner at his house so I "could have more time" with my mom since I "chose her side." I didn't choose sides. I specifically DID NOT choose sides! When I told him that, he went on crazy on me so I had to unfriend and block him from my facebook. Somehow he could still message me on there so I had to hit the spam button every time a message would pop up. I finally just got off there and will clean up the mess another day. I'm tired. Ready to put this week to bed.
  5. Ours is up! :001_smile: I didn't get much time to read others' posts from last week. I'll have more time today though since we have NOTHING planned for the day!! :D So happy to have a completely FREE day!
  6. Aldis is great if you have one near you. We eat a lot of soup and stir-fry (with brown rice instead of rice) during the winter, and it saves a lot of grocery money. I also like to make double soup recipes to freeze half for days when we're super busy.
  7. We only take those days off if dh is off of work. He is in construction so doesn't get many of those little holidays off anyway. I might throw in a lesson or craft on the holiday.....or not. Depends on whether or not I even realize the holiday is approaching and can prepare something.
  8. That is scary considering our county says pregnant women should have the vaccine. I found it odd tonight as I watched the news that while our county health dept says pregnant women and children under 5 are most high risk, a county next to us say they are only offering the vax to children 5-18 because they are most high risk. This is probably the biggest reason why we are shying away from the vax right now. Nobody seems to know for sure...at least around here.
  9. We got them a Wii with all the extra goodies!! They will have a cow!! I am NOT a gamer person, can't stand gaming systems. This is the only one that has ever had my interest because of the physical aspect.
  10. Most of the counties here will have the h1n1 vax Friday and Saturday, but have specifically limited it to pregnant women and children 6 mos to 4 yrs. They are reporting that it will be available to everyone by mid Nov through Dec.
  11. I LOVE The Children's Place jeans. We have some that have gone through three years worth of wear, and they still look great! I usually buy them after season on sale or at consignment sales. I purchased three $16 pair of jeans at the store after season for $3.99 each!!
  12. I think everything else has been covered for this Christmas but stocking stuffers. :D When I was growing up, the stocking were our most favorite part of gift opening. My mom was so creative with ideas. I don't know if it's because she had all girls and I have all boys, but I am not near as awesome with the stockings as she was. A few things I put in my boys' are character (Star Wars, Batman, Wii etc) undies or boxers (vs the plain white ones I buy any other time of the year), my oldest loves getting chapstick on a little clip, skull hats, individual packs of nuts, hot wheel cars, and some cool pencils. I can't even remember all that I put in their stockings last year!! What do you put in your children's sockings?
  13. My thinking is the same as yours. When my oldest was diagnosed with ADHD and we started thinking about homeschooling him, I read a lot of articles on learning styles. He is one who moves around a lot. While in ps, he would often get in trouble for standing at his desk while working, waving a hand in the air, nodding his head up and down, etc. (and I completely get *why* he couldn't be allowed to do these things) I read ideas about having him play on the floor while I read to him to help him retain information. NEVER make him sit at a desk or table to do any work. I gave it a try when we took him out of school. It was one of the reasons I stated for taking him out of school.....he needs to move to learn. Did not work AT ALL. If he is playing, he is only paying attention to what he is DOING, not to what I am saying. For my ADHD child who loves to move, I make him sit at a table to do his work. Not for long periods of time, but he does sit to do his work. Even with oral work, I tell him "feet down, sit up, and focus." His fourth grade teacher (who only had 11 children in her class) just didn't take the time to make him sit. Instead she just sent him to the principal's office when all he really needed was for her to say "sit down, Nathan." He did very well in 3rd grade ps, and now that I think about it, the teacher made him sit next to her desk so she could keep him in his seat. ;)
  14. Dh and I can't eat honeydew together without comparing it to the BEST honeydew EVER that we had in Mexico. :001_smile:
  15. I think it's important to let them know, and I really think most groups are very supportive. My nephews can't even be touched by a hand that held nuts. Very important that people in the group know. At the very least, they'll know to wash their hands well before playing.
  16. Mine is up for weeks 9-11, but not much blogging. We received TWO blessings this month and have been busy with sports and co-op! Posted a few pics!! Oh and my oldest WON the backgammon tourney for his age group in co-op today!! http://monkeyhomeschool.blogspot.com/2009/10/weeks-9-to-11-update.html#comments
  17.:eek::svengo: Nightmares for sure tonight! :tongue_smilie: We have a garden snake under one of the bedrooms in our house. We see him peek out through the vent thing outside every now and then. This is an older house though. No advice. Just :grouphug:. I'd probably pass out if I found one IN my house.
  18. We have four together and dh has two adult sons. We hear stuff all the time from our families. Dh's parents complain that they'll have to open another college fund. This is something we NEVER asked them to do and have repeatedly asked them NOT to do. They also wonder outloud sometimes if we even know where babies come from...this gets a graphic answer from dh because they are just being hateful about it. My mom says we can't have anymore because she already has her personalized license plate--NANA 10. I just jokingly said she didn't have to claim another grandchild if she didn't want to. Well "of course" she would!! My dad looks at us like we're crazy but doesn't say anything.
  19. Thank you for your concern! I have two nephews who have nut allergies and have both been rushed to the ER by ambulance, and my husband is the same with a strawberry and banana combination. It seems our family (dh's side) is riddled with various serious, and even more less serious, food allergies. There is never a short supply of epi-pens for sure. So reallly thank you. A lot of folks around here just think we're weirdos with all of our food restrictions and bags of meds.
  20. I'm still scratching my head over the Baptist minister leading a prayer in a Catholic university. :001_huh:  Seriously though the whole thing doesn't sound right to me either, especially since your child is in a public school and it was a mandatory parents meeting. I would be interested to see their response to your letter.
  21. We are. It just happened. I know it isn't a nut allergy but who knows beyond that. It was one of those cookie cakes from that big cookie chain (American Cookie, I think?). All of my boys are/were allergic to milk but outgrow it somewhere between one year and two years old. Same reaction as to the cake/icing, but he drinks cows milk pretty regularly now. It was very weird. My oldest son sees a chiropractor for NAET treatments, and we plan on having all of our children tested just to be sure.
  22. My 1st and 3rd children react to white sugar and artifical sugars, especially aspartame. It seems Splenda isn't as bad, but we just limit it anyway. All of my children have bad reactions to additives and dyes. My youngest shared a piece of cookie cake with a little icing on it and broke out across his face and became raspy. The older three just lose all control of themselves, especially my 1st and 3rd.
