  1. Due to a HUGE change in plans, I am trying to come up with curriculum for my 11 yr old for next year. We previously used Seton for most of our material but have decided against that now. Any ideas to fill in the gaps? 6th grade curriculum ideas BOLDED are DECIDED. Math-MUS or Saxon with Singapore Word Problems 5, Brain Maths Vol 1, Life of Fred (I really like the looks of MUS, but I'm just afraid my ds who has been in ps until this past year won't do well. Idk. Saxon seems to be more like ps teaching that he is used to.) Brain Maths looks like a good challenge that my ds needs...any use this? Language Arts- Wordly Wise book 3, Easy Grammer (I just don't know here...we used all of Seton's LA for 5th grade. Ds is a very strong reader. He tested well above his grade level, but his grammar isn't as great.) Religion- I am looking for a bible-teaching curriculum, not a religion-teaching curriculum. Science- Apologia (haven’t decided which one yet), health? Writing- History- Story of the World Ancients, Geography- Foreign language- Lively Latin. Art- Music- Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you!!
  2. Hi ladies!! I have a four year old son who will be five in a few months. He is very eager to start school, like his big brother. We have started with some phonics, and he sits in on any history discussions my oldest and I have. We do a lot of "preschool papers" and arts/crafts things. I'm looking for some ideas for math. We do just regular counting...pointing at the actual numbers and counting out objects like beans and such. He can actually do simple addition and subtraction without realizing. (I love when I point these times out...he is soooooo excited to have done "math.") What other kinds of games or programs can I use with him? I have been reading and reading all on this forum for a couple of weeks now. Such GREAT information!! I love that there are places like this to get so many cool ideas and honest help!! Thank you!!
  3. Thank you ladies!! I checked out Lively Latin and it does look very interesting! We will probably go with that. I had forgotten about the Latin book from Usborne and I'll look into the other suggestions as well. Thank you so much!!! =)
  4. A thread about teaching Latin brought up a question for those who successfully teach Latin. What are some fun Latin curriculums or supplements that would go along with the Prima Latina curriculum? I'm looking for something that would be engaging for the kids. My boys are just not interested in learning Latin! I personally would LOVE to learn Latin, and I want them to learn as well (and eventually maybe Spanish), but I don't want it to be a chore for them. Any thoughts?
  5. We started Latin this past year, but it didn't go very well. I'm now trying to decide if we should try Latin again or just go with Spanish. I'm thinking now that I'll try just the cd like a previous poster mentioned and see how that works. Maybe add the workbook back into the routine later on....or just switch to a different Latin program.
  6. Hi! I'm from AR too!! We live pretty close to the Gort Smith area. Christie
  7. Thank you for the suggestions!! I'll look into those. I really would love for this to be the LAST change we make in math curriculum for the exact reason Ruth mentioned. Another quick question...any experience with Saxon? Blessings, Christie
  8. Hi! I've been reading through some of the posts about math curriculum on the board, and would love to get your opinions. I see a lot of Math U See and Singapore. Both were recommended to me by two different moms. I'm wondering...are these two curriculums that need to be used together? I noticed several on here use both. Is there a specific reason for that? Also what are some other good math curriculums? We are currently using R&S, and do not like it. I think maybe the lessons are too short and its sort of boring to us. Any thoughts? Thank you! Blessings, Christie
