  1. This is going to be my first full year homeschooling and my first year with a K'er and I have decided not to buy a math curriculum for him this year. We will be doing MEP math but I want to make math learning fun for him and was thinking I would do a lot of games. We will also be doing calander time, and he will have a calander time binder we will work on daily. Also besides games what are some good manipulatives?
  2. These rooms are great I am getting a lot of ideas on how to decorate our school room.
  3. Thank you for sharing this. I love the fact that it has books and activites to go with it. I am so excited to start sotw with my children this year and this has made it much easier!!!
  4. I am buying everyone their own supplies. All four of my children will have their own box, even my 2 year old. I am also buying a set all for myself as well. That way no one is fighting over the supplies.
  5. ooh this is great. I will be using this with my kids.
  6. I am doing the first 6 chapters during the summer, then the rest of the 36 chapters during the year.
  7. I pulled my kids out of public school the first time becasue it was really bad. It was a inner city school in Chicago and my kids were so boerd in the classroom because they knew everything that they taught in school. My dd was in K at the time and half of the kids came to the school not being able to speak english at all (a lot of hispanics) and hardly any of the kids knew their abc's and my dd was reading by the time she entered k. My ds was in 2nd grade and once again he was above grade level in his subjects so he started getting in trouble all the time because he said that school was boering and all they did was baby stuff. So I pulled them out and hs'd them until we moved to VA and I thought the schools here would be better, and they are but they teach to the test and I want my kids to learn more than what is on the test for the year. So they are finishing the school year (5 more days!!!) then they will be back home for the long run.
  8. I have 4 children also and I feel tired all the time, from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed at 8pm(if I can make it that long). I hardley ever get any time to myself and if I do it is for 30 or so minutes. My kids are 2, 4, 7, and 9. My 7 and 9 year old are easy, so I figure by the time my 2 youngest ones are around the age of my older ones I will be able to start focusing on me a little more.
  9. My kids had to wear uniforms at their last school and we all hated it. They have to get up and dressed for the day in case we have to go somewhere and just for the habit of it. Every once in a while we all stay in our pj's if I know for sure we will be home all day.
  10. My dd just turned 7 and she will still reverse her b and d, but when I ask her to look at the word she just wrote and tell me what it says she will realize her mistake and correct it. They will outgrow it.
  11. We are going to be using the list from Sonlight, and she will be doing a notebook page after every couple of chapters. She loves to read and reads well so I don't think that she needed a reading curriculum.

  13. I LOVE this website. I plan on using some of her ideas with our study of sotw.
  14. These are great!!! I love when people share their talent and hard work with everyone.
  15. I think $400 is a great price. I just moved from Chicago and the average rate for a 1 bedroom was $800 and up. I now live in Virginia where it is much cheaper. A 1 bedroom will run about $500 where I live. ETA: Would she consider a roommate to share the cost?
  16. Have you tried amazon? Sometimes I can find new stuff on there for the same price someone is selling it for used.:glare:
  17. I am lucky if I can get 10 minutes out of my little wiggle worm at a time. I usually do 3-10 minute sessions with him. I use 100ez lessons, then we read a bob book(or use the books from progressive phonics or starfall that i print out) and now we are starting phonics pathways also for a few min. I am going slow with him. 1-2 lessons from 100 ez lessons because he gets discouraged easy and he is still young(4).
  18. I live in VA and this will be my 1st year hs here. I have to send a letter of intent, my curicculum plans(just the courses not all the books i will be using) and do and submit testing every year. It isn't complicated, but i just moved from IL where it was so much easier.
  19. Yep i heard it, and had to stop it right away. I am 31
  20. My daughters handwriting is actually pretty good. She loves to write and doodle all the time so I am always telling her to write neatly and so over time her writing has become neat and pretty(for the most part).
  21. We sing songs for days of the week and months of the year everyday. Also we have a cute little calander that i got from the book store that we do everyday that goes over the date, weather, days, month and year. btw my son is 4.
  22. I will have a 4th, 2nd, and K'er and would like to do lapbooks and notebooks with them on different topics they will do together. I was wondering do they each make a seperate one or do they make 1 and each contribute to it at their own level. I know my k'er won't be doing to much he just hates to be left out of things his older sibilings are doing.
