  1. I would like to thank everyone for the advice that I have recieved, we talked last night and he has left the house. I told him I would change the locks in 3 days so he had time to get his stuff out. The kids and I are at my moms house for the next 3 days while he is getting his stuff. There was no yelling he said he was wrong and he understands why I want him out. I don't know what my next steps are but I am just going to take it one day at a time. I am taking my son and daughter to their doctor to figure out the type of help they need to get through this on Monday, and we will just go from there. Thanks again everyone for your supportive words.
  2. She said that he has not touched her in any unappropriate way, he just yells at her a lot when I am not there.
  3. He never says anything out of the way to them when I am there. I sometimes overhear him saying hurtful things to them when he thinks I am out of earshot and I confront him right away, so I guess he just waits until I am sleep or gone to say things to them.
  4. He has never called me out of my name, as far as the way he treats ME, it is great. He goes out of his way to make me happy, all the problems we have revolves around the way he treats my kids.
  5. Some answers to questions is there has never been a problem with him and her, they have always had a good relationship which is why I am floored, she has always been a happy child and her mood suddenly changed which alerted to me this. On the other hand their has always been tension between him and my oldest son, it got so bad at one point that he hit him(not spanked) and the next day I loaded up my van and drove 12 hours to my moms house. We were broken up for about 4 months and he swore that he changed and that he loved the kids and I and that he wanted us to be a family so he moved to where I was and things were good for a good 6 months, and now he has started cussing at the kids but hasn't put his hands on them outside of discipline. A few months ago I noticed that the tension between him and my son had started again so I asked my son what was going on and he said that daddy just yelled at him a lot so I got to the point where I wouldn't leave him alone with him, everytime I have to go somewhere I take my oldest with me. (btw he is 10) So now out of nowhere he has started lashing out on my daughter and this incident happeded the last time that I left the house. He has never been abusive to me in anyway, we hardly ever fight and he goes out of his way to make sure that I am happy. He treats the 2 boys we have together totally different. I know in my heart that I need to get my kids out of this situation because he is acting the same way he was when I left him the first time.
  6. Deleted this so I can move on. Thanks for all the advice.
  7. I am using saxon with my 2nd and 4th grader. They are both doing well with the program. The only complaint I hear is that it is boring.
  8. Does anyone know of any beginner readers like I see sam or bob books but without the pictures or very little pictures. My 5 year old is getting very distracted with all the pictures and doesn't want to read the book because he is paying more attention to the pictures. I am almost to the point of making my own readers with just words so he can focus on just the words. TIA
  9. I love this website. I have used it for a few years now with my children. Thanks for posting this.
  10. I had been on Homeschool in the Woods website a long time ago and forgot about it. Thank you for refreshing my memory on that. I will also look into Life of Fred, I have heard a lot about that series but never really looked at it. I will also check out the science you mentioned.
  11. I am going to look into the Sciece Daybook and Lively Latin, thank you for the suggestions.
  12. This is my first year homeschooling and my oldest is in 4th grade right now. He is on a light schedule to try and get us used to homeschooling. Right now he is using saxon 54 for math, Rod and Staff 4 for English, Spelling Workout D (which is way to easy for him, he just goes through the lessons for practice but he can spell all the words in the book) Sotw volume 1 for history and kingfisher science enclyopedia with written narrations. I assign him 1 book a month that he reads and does a lit. guide that I will get online where he gets extra spelling, writing practice, comprehension questions, and then he writes a book report on it. I am looking into curriculum options for his 5th grade year. I know I want to keep saxon for math, but I want to supplement it with someting that is a little more exciting. (I love saxon it is just so boring), I also want to keep R&S for English, so I am looking for Spelling, History (he will read sotw v.2 himself but won't be doing the activity guide(i don't think)), Science, and anything extra that would be fun for a 10 year old boy. We may also be working through WWS slowly, I know that R&S is suposed to cover writing I just want some extra for him. Also I want to gently introduce him to latin so we need a good beginner curriculum for that. I want us to have a fun year next year because he is always complaining that homeschool is boring, and even though I want him to get a quality education I also want him to have fun. He is pretty independent with his work and likes it that way. Thank you for any help that you can give.
  13. My 7 year old girl is your typical girly girl. She likes cheerleading, gymnastics, dolls, horses, baking, and so much more. My 10 year old is a football fanatic, he likes other sports also but football is his thing, he likes hot wheels, model cars, dogs, and video games. Please pm me if you think your child would be interested.
  14. We are not starting our actual school work until the afternoon when daddy goes to work. So we are spending out morning/early afternoon baking, cleaning, and doing the laundry. Later on we will be doing math, language arts, and finishing our halloween lapbook, and work on our elections/presidents study/lapbook.
  15. My 9 year old uses Axe, it works good for him. He gets real stinky and sweaty during football practice and it holds up for him.
  16. I live in Roanoke. I have a 9, 7, 5, and 2 year old.
  17. My son did not learn his ABC's until he was 4 1/2, I used Letter Factory and Starfall and it took him about a month to learn his letters and sounds. Or if you really don't want screen time you can try a letter of the week type thing.
  18. I think it is necessary to be consistant with the lessons. With my son who just turned 5 I was doing it everyday, trying to do one lesson a day but he became furstrated so I shelved for a month or so. I pulled it back out but I had to start all over again. So now what I do is work on it almost daily with him and just take it slow. Sometimes it takes us 4-5 days to get through one lesson, and sometimes he will do 2-3 lessons in a day. I am not rushing him through it because I want him to have a firm understanding of it.
  19. We are starting. I am so excited. The kids could care less.:glare:
  20. These are such great ideas. For my kids my plans are to go by Krispy Kreme's and order a box of donuts, then we will go to the park where I will take there school pictures and let them play for a while. After that we will go home, go through all our curriculum and expectations for the year.
