  1. It does mention the baby came early. I know in TX earlier than 36 weeks I would have to go to a hospital. I wonder if gestational age came into their "concern" for the baby. Or the size of a the baby. Was it a little 4 lb preemie or something. As a homebirther it just makes me sad that her plans had to change and things got ugly. But yep we will never know the other side of the story.

  4. We live in the country and with current gas prices limit outside activities. Only 1 or 2 evenings do we have outside activities. I meal plan during the day. We do on occasion take days off school for deep cleaning or major errand running. But my kids aren't just learning about school they are learning about life.
  5. I for one expect my dh to go to work and earn an income. Is it wrong for him to expect a clean house and a meal? Maybe expect is the wrong word. I appreciate his hard work outside the home and in return I try to make his life easier. He appreciates my work in the home and does his best to provide a nice home and the things we need.
  6. He if 5 and not ready. I did school with my oldest and he wasn't ready. He started really reading at 8. I should have just taken one of these :chillpill: His attention span my be 5 minutes.
  7. My perspective on my working past 6 is that I spend my time different. I take breaks or naps during the day, and am not working all the time. So sometimes my work is still waiting for me in the evening. Had I finished my work first it would be done before 6. Homeschool doesn't have to take place at home. You could have taken your son to his activity and done math in the car or where ever. I know somebody that took a child to coop once and had them sit in the hall doing their work that should have been done before our afternoon coop.
  8. My boys eat the same diet. One has great teeth the other had 7 teeth that needed work by 4. We had to take him in because one abccessed.
  9. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Sounds like my middle boy too but I could also see older brother being sneaky.
  10. :grouphug: So sorry. Do you know about the Brewer's diet for pegnancy?
  11. We have a 14 yo cat that eats dry food. We had some issues when she was younger and switched to Purina and haven't had issues since.
  12. So were you able to order it? And why didn't the rep just send you the mixer as a replacement instead in addition to your shipping label?
  13. There is a forum that can answer all her questions and then some. http://www.diaperswappers.com I started with plain chinese prefolds from Katie's Kisses which has now closed. Snappies instead of pins and dappi covers.
  14. I cook dinner every night. Most nights it is done by the time he gets home, sometimes not. Sometimes I know he will be heading on a bike ride before dark and sometimes it is due to a baby needing Mom. I try to have my front room cleaned as when he comes in he does like a clean house. He isn't the one doing the laundry so I can do that whenever as long as his clothes are clean for work. Your kids are older. My oldest is 9 and we have toys, legos, and such, but my boys know how to pick up and sweep the front room and I can suggest things to tidy up before daddy comes home. My house is by no means perfect, we live here but we do try to have a few clean spots and 15 minutes worth of messy not 15 hours.
  15. Some days, yes I can. Delegate things to kids. Start your day no later than 8 am. Stay away from the Hive. ;) Sweep after every meal.
  16. I planned to get a teaching degree but alway really just wanted to be a mom and homeschool. I am living my dream. I do wish I had taken music in college but other than that I am pretty happy with how things turned out.
  17. We all go to bed around 9 here. Baby, 3 yo, 6 yo, and 9 yo, dh & myself. Dh gets up at 5. I am up shortly after and I wake the boys by 7 am, except the baby. Sometime the 9 yo gets woken at 6 am. Trying to start school by 8.
  18. I think so. My children have learned a lot through play and often when we play a game they have to play again and again. They like seeing who wins. I have a child in D and a child in B. Another useful part is I can have my children play together while I tend to my 2 younger children.
  19. We are on rightstart D. We will use E when done. If you know what you want the games to reinforce I could tell you what cards you need and you could piecemeal it. Green cards are the basic number cards. They are a must. Blue are the multiplication cards so any game working with multiplying you will need those. And the corners game is a must. It teaches adding subtracting and multiples. The rest I have used but we don't play with as often. The cards will come with game rules, so you can get just the basic cards and it will have a few games but not all. http://store.rightstartmath.com/supplements.aspx
  20. For my last pregnancy I took New Chapter Perfect Prenatals. It was my first pregnancy were I didn't become anemic. I purchased them from Amazon.
  21. For those who can't fathom our Texas laws, think of it this way. You manage to feed and cloth your children without somebody from the state checking up on you. We just think the same is true for education. We don't have any paid state workers checking up on us. We function just fine and work hard to teach our kids. If they fly though work and we do school 100 days it is okay. I grew up in a state that required 4 hours of instruction. I would be hard pressed to spend that much time with my 1st grader. He can do math, spelling, reading, FLL and WWE in less than 2 hours. Yes we also do history or science depending on the day but still I would be under 4 hours. I know as a teenager my brothers and I looked at 4 hours as the max we needed to do. Gotta love teen logic. I prefer not having to report or count hours. We work till our work is done, we redo papers till they are correct in math or spelling or any other subject. We strive for mastery, not checking a box and moving on with the next lesson.
  22. The Witte museum is fun too especially if you have membership from another science center that transfers.
  23. You can still enter through March 28th. http://www.homeschoolconvention.com/hedua/well-planned-day-software-beta-contest/
