  1. I got baptized at 8 but I was raised in a home were we all attended church together as a family. Are you concerned that it is a social thing and not a spiritual thing or is the concern that it differs from your religious leanings? (rhetorical please don't feel the need to answer me. ) Perhaps instead of no it might be I would like you to do XY&Z first before you get baptized. It might be attend a class, read the Bible or write a paper. Or maybe even just have her share her heart why she feels the need the get baptized now and why she has chosen this church. Is it friends or the doctrine taught. All that said I heard a beautiful talk/sermon this weekend from a lady who joined my church as a teen. Her parents let her make that choice to be baptized. She is still faithful in her faith 35 years later. My SIL also got baptized as a teen and is still active in the church as is her sister. In both cases the parents never joined but the supported their children and now grandchildren in their faith. It is beautiful to see the support my nieces have as they live their religion from their grandparents.
  2. Crazy. First often people don't rsvp and will still show up and 6 really is a nice size. ;) 2nd. I would totally take her up on the freezing of meals. Really. Enjoy your now free weekend and time with your husband and children.
  3. By the rainbow! It is much less stressful and eye pleasing.
  4. Did you follow a recipe? I am sure you will be fine if you followed a recipe. I have made fermented recipes from Nourishing Traditons and lived to tell about it. Granted the pickles turned out nasty...
  5. Yep cleaning out the boys room. I am shocked what one of my children was sleeping on. Lets just say EWW! So any moms with bunks you might want to double check they are getting stripped and the sheets and cover washed... But my boys have lost their bunks for now as wrestling on the top bunk is not safe... Of course now they have 3 beds in a line and think you are to jump from one to another.
  6. Rice could sub for the barley or wheat berries.
  7. I thankfully have the means to purchase things now. I am able to get them on sale or at discount prices and then I stock up. I was able to purchase wheat back when it was $6 a 25 # bag it is now $12a 25# bag. I buy ahead and stretch my food budget by doing so. When somebody is out of work our money we have in reserve can go to other things or supplement the dry storage we have with fresh fruit, veggies and milk.
  8. Have you looked at building a tiny house for her? She could park it next to your house but be self contained. I am seriously considering that for my boys as they grow up. They can build the house in high school and have a place to call their own while they go to school.
  9. I have no idea! I saw it on the news. I was shocked to say the least. My baby would go naked if needed.
  10. If you are near and LDS church they most likely have a scout program as well. You don't have to be a member to join. Some are run better than others. They also run scouts based on ages 8 yo Wolf, 9 yo, Bear 10 Webeloes and 11 years Scouts.
  11. One of the saddest stories I heard after Katrina was a baby in a filthy diaper for a couple of days because they didn't have one. I just felt for the kid who probably had a rash. We cloth diaper but diapers are something I would hate to be without. That and baby formula. I breastfeed but if you don't make sure to stock some formula and clean water for emergencies. As a kid we were in hurricane country and had no power for a week.
  12. Underbeds works great for storing food. As do closets. You don't buy it all at once. Even just getting a few extra cans of something when you go to the store helps. We did not start with everything at once and our water system was compliments of the the Bush money we got. Think baby steps. A little at a time.
  13. The property down the road to set up a camp for spina bifida kids and their families. (homeschoolers too.) It would give them a place to come for a week or two and leave behind the world. . It would be as off the grid as possible and use water reclaimation. ;) And the construction would probably be strawbale cabins or domes. It would be completely wheelchair friendly and encourage independence of all the campers. It would have a large library, music studio, art studio and theater, in addition to all the other normal camp stuff. Zip lines, ropes course, pool & hot tub, bowling, and tennis & basketball courts. It would also have several raised garden beds and grow lots of yummy food. I would have to hire a gardener and that is not my thing. And I would also need a ranch guy to handle the horses and livestock.
  14. Yep. We live in the country. We have propane for cooking, heat with a woodstove, just got some solar panels to supplement our energy use. My library is well stocked with essential books and even if I didn't buy anymore ever if my kids read them all they will have a well rounded education (don't tell dh.) We filter rainwater for drinking and have a nice supply. Our safe is stocked and we have always had foodstorage. For me it is in case of disability for dh. I want to be able to be prepared should his income drop considerably and I have to further my education while working part time. We also want to be prepared should a tornado come through and knock out power and roads. We are far from town and have to be prepared should disaster strike. It brings a piece of mind knowing that we could get through a rough patch of unemployment in this crazy world. We wouldn't starve to death and we would have some light and computer use now. ;)
  15. I would offer to adopt her baby. :001_smile: Really she needs to talk to her dh. I am prolife but even if I wasn't bring a child or not bring a child into the world involves two people. Yes dh leaves much of that decision up to me as I carry the babies but he is also my rock and the guy I run too when I need to cry over the loss of a baby. I can't imagine not having the emotional support of my dh during any pregnancy/miscarriage I have had.
  16. Craigslist is another place to look for used strollers. Another place to check might be Strollerswappers a yahoo group.
  17. Some more hugs! :grouphug: And a quote. “Don’t judge me because I sin differently than you.†It is from a bumper sticker but would be a great comeback if she messes with you again. :001_smile:
  18. I am sorry for your loss and for having to deal with Wacky. :grouphug:
