  1. I have Tramontina Proline Chef shears, they are very good, but cannot be taken apart for cleaning but are dishwasher safe. I got the set of 2 for $10 at Costco, though they are available on amazon for a higher price. https://www.costco.com/tramontina-proline-chef's-shears%2C-2-ct.product.100635440.html
  2. Personally, I would not allow my kid to play any sport involving his wrists for the summer and give his wrist a chance to recover completely so that he is able to do what he loves in the Fall and beyond. Since you are pressed for time to decide on summer camps, I suggest that you look for non-sporty camps that also are very stimulating and fun and gives him new experiences while keeping him busy. Look for Day camps in Science museums, aviation museums, martial arts studios (without sparring or board breaking), Maker camps, theater camps at Conservatives etc. I think that occasional pick up games are ok, but he needs to be aware of his wrists when he plays with the basketball or any other game. Another suggestion is to message the orthopedist office through their online portal and ask what possibilities for physical activity and sports are there for your son given his situation and they might respond by email or call you back. Good luck.
  3. "Without music, life would be a mistake." - Friedrich Nietzsche If the teacher has been working with Bach Chorales, here is an appropriate one: “Beethoven tells you what it’s like to be Beethoven and Mozart tells you what it’s like to be human. Bach tells you what it’s like to be the universe.” ― Douglas Adams
  4. I store my spices in "Elite" 8 oz and 16 oz jars shaped like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ball-Glass-Mason-Jars-with-Lids-and-Bands-Wide-Mouth-16-oz-4-Count/25209482 I have bought some off of Amazon in the past few months but gone are the days that I could stop at Target and pick a few on my regular shopping trips. Thanks for the Cost Plus tip, I will look there. This is a First World Problem as I am just trying to keep all my spices in jars that look the same because I have OCD over such things 😉 (and these 16 Oz jars are shallow enough to fit into my kitchen cabinet drawers easily as well).
  5. Today, the formula shortage is in the headline news and the government is apparently working to fix this ASAP. That being said, I saw a couple of brands of formula in my local Target last night. What I cannot find for the past 2 years are Mason Jars in the particular sizes and shapes that I need. I can only find 2 sizes and shapes at any one time (both that I don't need) at any store that carries them locally and I have also looked in stores more than 100 miles from my home when I was passing through them on trips. It seems that the manufacturers of canning jars are really struggling to keep supply going as more people cooking at home and canning their own produce is sending demands soaring.
  6. Our Costco had all the freezer potato products last week, of course in Costco sized bags. Our Trader Joe's had the small bags of hash brown, fries etc in stock yesterday.
  7. I gave S Boulardii in powder form: broke capsule and mixed with smoothies or other beverages when my son was on antibiotics. I used Jarrow Formulas, but Florastor is a great brand as well: https://jarrow.com/collections/probiotics-prebiotics/products/saccharomyces-boulardii-mos-5-billion-cfu-90-delayed-release-veggie-caps Whole Foods and Sprouts carry them if you are in a hurry and cannot wait to order online. As others said, C Diff is a big concern during antibiotics and taking a probiotic yeast supplement is one preventative. Also, simultaneously start giving probiotic yoghurt (Stonyfield organic is a great choice if you don’t make your own) or better yet, make smoothies using kefir which have many more colonizing probiotics than other foods ( either buy kefir or very easy to make that as well). I also add a healthy pinch of turmeric powder and black pepper powder to all my stir fries along with minced garlic and ginger: these are good for a healthy gut and preventing infections of the gut.
  8. Sorry to hear that he is sick. Most AP sites locally have a "makeup exam" date for each AP and one kid in my neighborhood is in a sports competition which clashes with an AP test and is taking the makeup exam. As Arcadia said, you can get it rescheduled by contacting the AP Coordinator.
  9. I used to participate in online support forums for IF where there are diabetics whose condition improved (medication adjusted to lesser doses) or reversed doing IF and Keto. Many of them claim that eating zero carbs kept them in ketosis and reversed their Insulin Resistance. Facebook and Reddit are two places to find a lot of support for Intermittent Fasting. I have read on those boards that it is good to drink black coffee in the mornings during your fasting window (no bone broth, artificial sweeteners or any foods with any calories) and that the black coffee is found to help many in controlling their fasting sugars. I also recommend that you read Dr. Jason Fung's "The Obesity Code" book if you have not already done so (also available as an audio book). It is not possible for me to do Keto due to dietary restrictions, but, I tend towards less carbs per day, sticking to unrefined carbs and no added sugars - this is what I found in various support groups and it seems to help me.
  10. How many hours is your eating window during Intermittent Fasting?
  11. I am vegan, eat food cooked from scratch, watch the nutrient content of what I eat very closely, never eat sugar, never eat junk, never eat snacks, am relatively active compared to many (run, hike, bike regularly), I looked outwardly slim but was "skinny fat". It was impossible to lose the huge donut-like weight around my midsection ever since I gave birth and I believe that stress hormones are an important reason for not losing the fat deposits. And women in their 40's gain 3 pounds per year with no changes to their eating habits or exercise habits due to hormonal changes brought on by aging. The only thing that moved the scales in the right direction for me was Intermittent Fasting and I jumped on the bandwagon when I realized that many of my family members in their 40's are either diabetic or pre-diabetic and that was a wake up call for me. I am still slim looking and wear the same clothes as before, but I have lost 14 pounds, most of it around my midsection by doing IF. I do hikes during my extended fasts and I think that it pushed my body to burn the belly fat. IF is a way of life for me now and I plan to keep it up as I age. If you plan to do Intermittent Fasting, please be very careful about maintinaing your electrolyte levels as this becomes a problem for many people.
  12. Bulk cooking and freezing single serving sized meals. And always having salad ingredients prepped and in a large container in the fridge. I used to be anxious, panicked and stressed out when my kid had outside activities and I had to wait in a far away and godforsaken place for hours for the sport event to finish and then rush home to make a hasty meal or drive somewhere else to pick up takeout etc and reach home even later for dinner. We also have special dietary needs and hence the choices were very, very limited for us. Nowadays, I make easy to heat single serving meals and freeze enough for my family for 5 to 6 days worth of dinners. I plan one dish for dinner, make enough for 6 days worth of dinners, we eat one serving and I freeze the rest in single serving ziplocks. I have a variety of frozen dinners, convenience, less stress and less driving for me.
  13. Always add a highly acidic (any citrus) fruit when using Spinach or Kale in a smoothie - either fresh lemon juice or orange juice (and berries which are acidic as well) help to prevent the formation of Calcium Oxalate deposits in the kidney.
  14. The cashiers at the grocery stores here start saying "Happy Mother's Day" for a couple of weeks leading up to the day, my inbox is filled with coupons to buy this and that to celebrate Mom, there are roadside stands run by farm workers who sell bunches of roses and balloons for Mother's Day in random intersections of my commute path etc etc. I cannot avoid it even though I live a life with far less social interactions compared to many. I too dread the day like many others on this thread due to bad childhood+adult experiences. My own kid used to laboriously do some craft-work to make me a present (he is not a hands-on craft making person) and scrawl "Happy Mother's Day" on it, pack it using a clumsy wrapper and though I appreciate the fact that he went to so much trouble for me, it did not seem worth the effort and we settled on him taking my DH to my favorite nursery and picking out a plant (preferably a flowering one) for me and I in turn would plant it and care for it and let them know when it flowered as I love to grow plants. That is all the celebration we ever have for the day, and sometimes, we forget to do that and we pick up a plant on our next trip to the nursery.
  15. I have been making Sourdough Pizza Crusts ever since I revived my old sourdough starter many months ago. I loosely follow the King Arthur's recipe from here: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/sourdough-pizza-crust-recipe or another one from here: https://alexandracooks.com/2020/05/01/simple-sourdough-pizza-a-step-by-step-guide/ My family loves the faint sourdough tang in the pizza and don't want me to change the recipe.
  16. same here ... I have never drunk or used any kind of drugs as a choice for my entire life and I want to stay that way. I would probably punch anyone who tried to sneak it into my food without my knowledge as well! And I am super sensitive to odors and tastes and I would have figured that something strange was going on with the food.
  17. Were there kids in the wedding party??? 🤯 😱
  18. Do google it, there is a lot of juicy info out there (about all the parties involved, together and separate!). here is a sample: https://in.mashable.com/culture/30411/elon-musk-reacts-to-headlines-about-alleged-threesome-with-amber-heard-and-cara-delevingne
  19. i have not been following this case ... but came here to remark that it is strange to see that on this forum, at this instant, a thread about Depp and Elon Musk are next to each other. The coincidence is that both these men were romantically involved with this same person and broke up with her. When I hit "submit", the ordering of the posts is going to change 😀
  20. Could you please let me know the url from which this graphic is posted? I would like to forward it to someone who is looking for this information to plan some travel. Thank you!
  21. That should work well as I use dried dill most of the time because I don't feel like heading out to the grocery store for a few items! To this, I optionally add some pepper, sour cream, white wine vinegar, finely chopped scallions and parsley if I have these items on hand and omit them if I don't. You can play with it until it suits your preference.
  22. Do you like Greek yoghurt? I make a Dill, EVOO, lemon juice, garlic and low-fat Greek yoghurt sauce for my grain bowls and it tastes a lot like ranch and is healthier.
  23. I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers for your entire family and I hope that you have a safe flight.
  24. Someone once said to me that there is no diabetes if there are no carbs in the diet. I use this philosophy as a guide for myself as I come from a long line of people prone to severe diabetes. In simpler terms, stick to a diet that is as close to a keto-ish diet as possible with very minimal carbs (shoot for less than 50 g of carbs, even lesser if the person can deal with it), eat all the foods for the day within a shorter time window (Intermittent Fasting), avoid simple carbs and liquid calories, eat vegetables and salads as often as you can, avoid fruit that are very sugary, walk for 10 minutes after a meal.
