Our history curriculum isn't working!
AustinTea replied to AustinTea's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Actually, I don't :blushing: live in Austin. I didn't think of that when I picked my user name. My actual name was already taken and everyone had such cute names (which were already taken, lol). I was petting my dog, Austin, and drinking a cup of tea and that equals user name. :D I don't think well under pressure, lol. -
We are using TOG Year 2 and it just isn't working for us. We haven't gotten too far because it seems like we can't get a handle on it and we have had some problems getting things from the library. I ended up buying more of the books to get us through the first unit. I don't feel like my dd (10th grade) has learned anything. I'm ready to throw it out! I am really wishing I would have just gone with Sonlight. I don't know what to do or how to save this year of school. Any advice?

Birth choice frustration
AustinTea replied to Philothea's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think hearing why your doctor did or wants to do a c-section is one of the best things you can do. I had one with my first and I'm not sure exactly why so I don't know if it could have been prevented or not. With my second I was thinking that I would be having another c-section but in the last couple months before my due date my doctor talked to me about my fears and his reasoning for thinking I should try a vbac. He assured me that as soon as I was at the hospital in labor that an OR would be made ready in case I needed it. Philothea, All of that basically to say, I would talk to your doctor/midwife and the doctor who wants to see you to see what the reasons are and to discuss your concerns with them. A solution that is pleasing to all of you may be able to be reached. I'll be wishing the best for you. -
Anybody have kids born on the same day?
AustinTea replied to 1bassoon's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My oldest dd and my youngest dd were both born on May 7 twelve years apart. My middle dd was born on my dads 50th birthday. I thought it was weird. -

How can you name a child.....

There were a few Candace/Candy(s) around where I live. Its kinda funny, since I grew up with hearing that name a lot, I never thought anything about it. -
Why are my cookies going flat?
AustinTea replied to rwalizer's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree: I haven't had a problem since I started using butter flavor Crisco. Before that, they always went flat. -
Our dog was sprayed by a skunk- Help!!
AustinTea replied to Tina in Ny's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My friend's dog was sprayed and she said the only thing that worked to get the smell out of her dog was a Massengill douche. Hope you can get the smell out. -
I live about 45 min. to an hour from St. College, we take my mom's cat to a vet there. I don't find the regulations to be that hard. Keep a list of what you do every day to show at the end of the year along with samples of the work done, have that looked at by an evaluator (there are a lot in the St. College area), get the letter from the evaluator and turn that (plus the stuff you showed the evaluator) into the superintendent. It's a bunch of paper work but not difficult. I use Homeshool Tracker and mark the things done and then print it out at the end of the year. HTH

Accounts from the Loud and the Messy The Loud and Messy Cottage under the Mushroom - okay I threw this one in because for some reason your cottage made me think of mushrooms. :001_huh: Good luck in finding a name.

I did it!!!! I started a blog!!!
AustinTea replied to hmschoolmom22's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Very nice! I've thought about starting a blog but then I think I wouldn't have anything to say, or what if no one reads it, or what if it isn't any good, or well, you get the idea. Congrats for taking the plunge and being braver than I am. -
We bought a set of books from them. Well, actually my dh did. It was a few weeks after my dd was born and I had to have some minor surgery as an out patient. I was in bed still out of it when the college boy came to our door. Dh figured that since we homeschool it would be great. He did come in and ask me but I would have told him to buy anything the way I felt :001_huh:. We really haven't used them though. I try, but no luck.

:grouphug: So sorry to hear this.

I've enjoyed reading these posts, I realize I don't have any real friends. I would enjoy a little quiet time if dh took the kids for a week, then I would probably hang out with my mom. I am busy with the kids and things so normally if we do anything we do things with my dad and step-mom or church stuff. I just figure it is the phase of my life I am in. I wouldn't be against having a friend, I would probably even welcome it, but I have always been a shy person so the other person would have to start it.

Are you turning into one of your parents?
AustinTea replied to Doran's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I've noticed lately that I do in some ways act like my mother and my grandmother. I think it has happened more as I've gotten older too. Not sure about my husband though. -

Hints for a car sick 3 year old?
AustinTea replied to Jayne J's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My dd and I both get car sick. What works best for us is Coca Cola, original formula and not diet. Flat is better but we ususally don't have it flat. -
:lol::lol: This has been my week! When I had enough of it two days ago and changed all the rules my dh got mad. So I also adopted the I don't care attitude. My contribution: Please leave all your half empty pop cans and glasses on the coffee table so the big dog will spill them when he wags his big tail and of course I will love to be the one to clean it up, that is of course, after I have found where you left the cleaner, paper towels, or little cleaning machine.

Worse than Grandma's Depression
AustinTea replied to Tracy in Ky's topic in General Education Discussion Board
 I must say, I was shocked when I read this. I try to be frugal but sometimes my dh is worse than the kids when it comes to wanting things like video games. My kids are bad when it comes to wanting to go to McDonalds when we are in town.
