  1. Skeeterbug, This is what I was originally thinking, but definitely wanted feedback from others who have been there. Thank you so much! This is all so helpful. :-) D
  2. Lori & Irishmum, My kiddos are 11-9-7. I do like the idea of doing them together, though it might be best with the younger two. I am definitely in GREAT need of brushing up on logic! Thank you so much! D
  3. Lisa, That is perfect- exactly what I was looking for. ;-) Thank you! D
  4. This will by my first time ever doing logic with the kiddos. I have already purchased several books and am wondering how everyone does it regarding the actual work. Do you count the book as a consumable and have your child write on the pages? Do you slice the binding off and slip the pages into page protectors? Make a gazillion copies? I have three kids that I am hoping to get through all of the books eventually and am wondering what might be the best manner in which to go about it. Thanks! D
  5. Rally good points from the PPs. We are currently working through TT along with MM. Both of my kids were having mental breakdowns every.single.day when it came to math. At the time we were solely using MM. At that point I needed something other than myself teaching the kids new concepts. While TT fit that need, I wanted the kiddos to learn from two different angles, if you will, and since we already had MM, that is what we began concurrently using. It is so far working well. There are still days with gnashing of teeth, but the TT intro is taking the edge off the pen and paper work. Also, regarding the levels, I agree that they are definitely not even with your typical grade levels. That is a simple fix in just testing out until you reach the point of instructional level with your kiddo. My oldest is doing TT 7 and following up with mastery work with MM5. Hope this makes sense and helps all of us moms, no matter which side of the TT line we stand. ;-)
  6. Regarding the Stick Figuring Through the Bible...do we need both the teacher and the student books? :-) This is a great thread, btw. I'm looking into all of the suggestions. Love it!
  7. I think I unfortunately got an early start on this one. My oldest ds is 11 and the mood swings put to shame any I've experienced while pms'ing.... OP, I too went on amazon last night in search of books. Sigh....
  8. So...in other words....no "girls" means no maxi dress? :-( Darn.
  9. Not too early for us here in Northern Nevada. Our allergist wants us on meds by mid-January the latest (if we took a short break from them over the winter) to prepare our bodies for the onslaught of allergens that are in the air as early as February. Sorry you are feeling so crummy... D
  10. My allergist said that once you get the nose cleared up, they watery and itchy eyes take care of themselves...and she is right! My daughter had horrible issues with her eyes, and after being prescribed a nasal spray, she didn't need the drops that were also prescribed to her. Same with my son a year later. Hs nose was a little runny but his eyes were horrible. Took him in and got him on a nasal spray and again, his eyes cleared up (as did his nose) and he didn't need the eye drops. I would encourage you to give this angle a try if the suggestions from the pps don't work. ;-)
  11. Welcome! You have definitely come to the right place! You will come across some incredible curriculum ideas and tips and then some! D
  12. I haven't read through the entire thread yet...but does the fact that I can't answer the question until I research it thoroughly mean anything? ;-) D
  13. Not sure if this is it, but the Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones is phenomenal!
  14. LOL! I "lose" mine all the time...they are usually found on top of my head. ;-) I charge a dollar for when the kiddos passionately claim that their glasses are nowhere to be found. Oh is that so? Hmmmm.... What's this I see here....right in front of you? Uh huh. That's what I thought. Pay up buster....
  15. I've done the same with eye glasses.... It works! D
  16. Hopefully someone will be able to direct you to a premade chart soon, but I just wanted to share that if you are in a bind, you can create one with excel. I have one for each of my kiddos with the m-f across the top and the different subjects going down. In each box they have the assigned work for that particular day and subject. If it is work that needs to be done with me I just write *see mom. If I knew how to upload pictures I would show how my rudimentary one is. :-) HTH! D
  17. If you are looking to buy used, I would say now is a good time. My experience has been an increase in activity on the used curriculum boards around February and March and on through the summer. Homeschool classifieds currently has a LOT of BJU. And there is also the classifieds here, which seem to be picking up lately as well. I do know CBD offers free shipping periodically. Hopefully someone with better knowledge will chime in and give you a better idea as to when to look for those codes. :-) D
  18. Hi Rebecca, I wanted to say welcome to the boards (again!) and that I am hoping someone here can help you. There are great moderators here who can help you...they should be along soon. D
  19. Welcome! You will meet many incredible fellow homeschoolers on here. :-)
  20. I just want to say thank you to everyone! We have all of our valentines that we have received so far taped up on one of our cabinets and it is just a beautiful mixture of homemade cards and store bought cards. The kids love seeing the creativity of the homemade ones and I particularly am enjoying the store bought as those are the kind I mainly grew up with (thus holding a special place in my heart). ;-) D
  21. No, like pp said, you aren't the only 49er fan! My hubby and I are UNR graduates like Kapernick and we were really rooting for them. Sad that they lost, but it was a great game! D
